SportsLife Posted March 29, 2021 Share Posted March 29, 2021 Four players reached double figures in scoring as University Heights outlasted Madisonville-North Hopkins 63-61 on the Maroons' home floor in the 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament title game on Saturday, March 27. After notching the win, University Heights advances to the KHSAA Boys' Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament. University Heights improved to 15-9 following the win. Following the loss, Madisonville-North Hopkins ended its season 16-5. Amani McGee netted a game-high 22 points to lead University Heights to the win. Accompanying McGee in double figures for the Blazers, William Bryan scored 13 points, DJ Quarles added 11 points and KJ Crump contributed 10 points. University Heights, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Henderson County and Hopkinsville each won games in the opening round of the 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Hopkinsville edged frontrunner Lyon County 58-56 during the opening round of the 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament in Eddyville. It was the Lyons' lone loss to a 2nd Region team in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season. In the 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals it was University Heights 69, Henderson County 53 and Madisonville-North Hopkins 66, Hopkinsville 65. Avoiding a loss in the opening round of the 2nd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament, University Heights pushed past Crittenden County 80-79. Crump (17.1 ppg), Quarles (16.7 ppg), McGee (14.2 ppg) and Bryan (10.2 ppg) are each averaging double figures in scoring for University Heights. Head coach Grant Shouse guides the Blazers.
