The best thing about the Somerset-Hazard Game

Mayfield has a young man who had a spinal stroke last year, John Stevens, John has been following a similar path and has made great progress though he has not been able to get out of his wheel chair YET. Doctors have told that he will never walk again most likely either but he refuses to accept that and plans to walk again someday. This is a great story and one that I cant wait for John to read. It will give him more strength to someday walk himself. Thanks AvgJoe, this is a great story and one that will also inspire here in Mayfield. Just goes to show you how powerful faith and determination can be, I wish this young man the best.

:thumb: I would like to second that this story is one of inspiration and courage for this young man. It just goes to show that the brain is the most powerful muscle in the body. This story goes to point out just how fragile life can be and that the football that we love to watch, root for, and announce takes a back seat to the lives of the young men that we watch for 10-15 weeks out of the year. The best of luck to this young man and his family as he continues his remarkable journey...and let us pray that John Stevens of Mayfield can have a simlar story before his high school days are over with.

Thank you for sharing this story with the rest of us...I for one will find myself rooting for Somerset this coming Friday so that this young man can lead his team onto the field at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium...and wouldn't it be nice to see him and John Stevens meet at midfield for the coin toss if both Somerset and Mayfield make it to the finals. Let us keep these two young, extraordinary young men in our thoughts and prayers.

Puts perspective on what is important in life. We worry about winning the game, when some would just like to be able to walk the sidelines.

What a great story and one that should be retold many times through the years. As Jim Valvano said, Never give up, Never, never give up (paraphrased).

There is so much good in this story, Adam's attitude the whole time he was going thru was just unbelieveable. I have never seen him get down, he is always positive and has a huge smile on his face. The way the other young people have helped him and encouraged him. I was so glad that this was the headline story in our local paper, and not just a sports story. I tell you Friday night there was a lot of grown-ups with big lumps in their throats!!

I too wish the young man from Mayfield all the best and it would be great to see these 2 wonderful young men lead their teams out onto the field at Papa Johns!

I don't really have any way to describe this:http://www.somerset-kentucky.com/cnhi/somersetkentucky/homepage/local_story_324093249.html?keyword=leadpicturestory

Just read it.

This is an amazing story, as well as very inspirational--it reminds us of the big picture--"the human elment"--it is great to play and win, but too many of us, including myself, get caught up in the excitment of the game and to easily forget that these are only kids-(our kids).Let's celebrate this kids victory over this very serious illness and wish him the best of recovery and that we will keep him in our prayers.

I'm so glad he wrote an article about this. Adam is a great kid and has fought through the adversity to defeat this illness. Who say miracles don't happen everyday?

When he ran onto the field with the team Friday night, after being in a wheel chair for a year, I had chills. It was very powerful.
