I see we have a a very distinguished list of Strength Coaches and other Performance Coaches at the Kentucky State Clinic on 2-23 at Trinity:

Dan Ryan - Strength and Conditioning Coach at Covington Catholic

Tyler Matthews - Strength Coach at Apollo

Ed Towle - Strength Coach at Frederick Douglass

Rob Bonse - Softball Performance Coach at Scott County

Joe Tronzo - Certifications to burn from St. Xavier

Eric Hammer - Private sector from PFR Health

Can anyone tell us more about the event or the Coaches listed above?

Dan Ryan is a retired police officer and, I believe, ex-military man. Father of two Covington Catholic graduates, including CCH Hall Of Famer Sean Ryan. He used to run a strength and conditioning training facility called All-American Athletic Training Center that worked, specifically, with high school athletes in the Northern Kentucky area. He's been on staff at Cov Cath, I believe, the entire time that Eddie E. has been head football coach.

The event is being put on by Trinity HS and their Strength Coach as part of the National High School Strength Coaches Association. The organization has been around for 3 years, with this year being the first that State Clinics are being held.

Members of the NHSSCA can attend the conference for $25 while cost for non-members is $50.

The format of the clinic will be 40min of presentation with a 10min Q&A to follow each speaker.

I'm not sure if I am allowed to link to the NHSSCA's website or not...am I?

In addition, I believe Ryan has been the freshman coach at Cov Cath the last two seasons.

He is a top notch guy. He is focused on the student athlete and truly has their best interest in mind. He trained my son and a friend at AAATC for about three years. Mainly they worked with bands and a push sled at first, when still in 8th grade. After my son's sophomore season I asked Dan if he would do weight training to build him up for the following season. It made a huge difference. He builds immediate rapport with the athletes. They respect him because he obviously has practiced what he is preaching and he is a genuinely super guy.

I am guessing you have already crossed paths with Dan Ryan, @theguru.

I could talk all day about what a great guy Rhino (Coach Dan Ryan) is and yes we used to work together.

Upcoming State Conferences - HS Strength Coaches

I've linked directly to the "events" page. There you will find all info for registration. It should be a great opportunity for coaches from around the state to learn from some top notch coaches.

This will be aimed at both strength coaches and football (or any other sport) that oversee the training of their young men and women.

On Joe Tronzo, someone sent me a little info and I found some myself. One thread here on BGP had Joe squatting 670 pounds in high school on his way to a being a state power-lifting champion, wow! Additionally he played fullback for UofL and I am told was the strongest guy on the team. He also has some NFL Roster experience with both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tennessee Titans.

I also want to add Joe Tronzo was All BGP back in 2004:

I went to the National version of this clinic last year in Indy and it was exceptional.

There are lots of opportunities like this at colleges and such--and those are great in terms of specific training ideas--but what makes this group and this kind of clinic a little different is that it is geared to how to incorporate the development of HIGH SCHOOL players within the particular hurdles present to HIGH SCHOOL athletes.

Stuff college guys just can't relate to have an emphasis with NHSSCA like: maximizing facility/equipment despite limitations, making off-season work for multi-sport athletes, nutrition needs for ADOLESCENT athletes, and a lot more.

And the giveaways were incredible -- almost too good to be true and MOST of the participants walked out of there with a great training tool. The manufacturers at these clinics seem to really understand that if they can get their equipment actually in the hands of coaches, their best marketing will happen with direct usage and then word-of-mouth.

Kudos to Coach Mike Snyder at THS for pulling this off. In my 20+ years of doing this, I've seen so much growth around this state for off-season programs going from "get in there and push some weight around" to now much more of this kind of real exercise science-based approach.

I played with Joe at St. X and there is not another guy as intense has he was/is on the field and in the weight room. Great guy!
