St. Xavier Hires Kevin Wallace As Head Football Coach

Today has been a crazy day. Most importantly, it is a day that has reminded me of the things in life that truly matter. My dear friend, Purple 88, lost his dad today. I hurt because I know he is hurting.

 

However, one of the joys the Lord gives us in life are our hobbies. Bowling Green Purple football is a true hobby for Purple 88 and myself. We live a few hours apart but gather together on many Friday nights each Fall.

 

Coach Kevin Wallace is a perfect fit for St. X - don't get me wrong, I wish he was still a Purple but he will knock it out of the Park at St. X

 

How many public schools in Kentucky can compete and often even beat a private, like St. X? How many public high schools in America has done what Bowling Green has done the past decade? Their record and their rings will give you an answer to that question.

 

This list is really the only things you will need to know about Coach Wallace:

1 He will be the players biggest fans. He will encourage them in the classroom as well as on the field. He will do everything in his power to get them to be playing on Saturdays at the next level. He is connected to several D-1 schools in multiple conferences.

 

2 He will represent the program at the highest of levels. He will develop radio and TV personalities in a super positive way. He will rub elbows with the boosters but will assist the janitors.

 

3 His staff that he will put together will be remarkable. They too will represent the program the way X fans would expect. His practices are crisp and will always serve the purpose of making team better. They may or may not go undefeated every year but they will always compete and play to the whistle.

 

4. The team will quickly find out that though he is stern and expects a lot, he will love and nurture even more. If you are a parent of a player, you hit the jackpot. You want your kid around this guy.

 

5. He hates to lose. He holds a grudge (only on Friday nights). He is a competitor. He has a mind that can remember every look that a defense will give him. His teams will ALWAYS out perform the other team in the second half. He will adjust better than most coaches you will ever see at halftime.

 

I could go on. I think you get the point I am trying to make. He is a great coach. For anyone out there that wanted a "National Coach." You just got one. He just happened to be 2 hours down I-65.

 

If St X has the facilities (they do), the parent support (they do), the boosters backing (they do), strong students that get it done in the classroom (they do), and most importantly the offensive line size and overall team speed (they do), then you just found you a great coach that will make a really good team even better.

 

Looking forward to seeing the next few years. X fans, you done good - congrats!

 

After the playoff loss (blowout) to BG last year, as the teams were walking off the field Coach Wallace walked over to my son and told him that he appreciated the effort he gave in the game. He didn't have to do that. He could have told him good game and moved on. For a true rival to show you that kind of respect after running your butt up and down the field, shows him to be a special type of person. After reading the description of the kind of man Coach Wallace is, I see. Hope he does well and has continued success.

 

Don't know if the next hire will duplicate what you've had over the years, but (I hate to admit this) you and I both know if there is a bump in the road with this, it won't be that bad and it won't be that long.

This is a great hire for St. X. Wallace sounds like a great fit based on what I have seen and definitely will bring X to new heights.

The comments from the BG fans are quite telling. I am also quite sure that the X Administration have gotten to know Coach Wallace over the past few years with our annual competition. Somethinh tells me they came away impressed with him, as well as his players and their discipline and attitude. Great hire!

Went toe to toe with almight T. Played them tougher in ‘10 than X did. In 2009, held the powerful T offense to 3 field goals. 2008 was the one game T dominated other than that played them as well as anyone else with a distinct disadvantage at the line of scrimmage and slightly above average skill players in 2008-2010. He’ll put stress on T that hasn’t been placed on them from Poplar Level Rd in close to a decade.

 

The coaching advantage is no longer something the T faithful can claim anymore.

The 3rd team QB started the game, but I’m pretty sure he played less than 3/4 of the game, a slight exaggeration on your part.

 

Not suggesting he’s the second coming of Lombardi, but the last 5 seasons T has had the advantage in HCs. That is no longer the case, it’s as close to a push as you can get.

 

Well if we’re going to play the “not good” game...BG was playing without their best defensive player that season after suffering a knee injury early in the season and a bunch of inexperienced sophomores. So I guess they weren’t “very good” by BG standards.

Wouldn’t have made sense for him. By going to X he will be drawing full retirement benefits + what X will pay him. This is, if nothing more, a financial no brainer.

Having seen Coach Wallace in action twice a year, for the past several; I am saying you will get the opportunity to see first hand. Didn't is one thing. Can't is totally different. You might not be talking with such a tone after the next two seasons. Just saying. Bottom line, when Wallace got to Bowling Green they weren't the team they are today. They are the team they are today largely because of the man that will (next season) be patrolling the sidelines for St. X. Tell me what you think then. I've seen it and trust me, you will too. You're the one that wanted to gauge X's future successes against Trinity on Coach Wallace's "success" against them. Just offering perspective.

 

And in the '10 game Trinity's started their regular QB who was ill and was unable to play through it, though he tried valiantly. Trinity's #2 was at home also ill, so when #1 came out #3 went in and played the rest of the game, getting the win.
