Most of you have read about the Matewan WV coach's decision to intentionally have his star running back try to get the national rushing record for one game against hapless Burch, who only has 14 players.

Here is a very telling follow-up article in the Herald Leader about this game and this situation.

It was reprinted from the Washington Post

"All these records aren't being broken in state championship games," Kinder said. "You get numbers like that against sorry teams."

Dave Hunt could accept the fact that Burch High School had a sorry team. The coach had expected as much after eight seniors graduated from last season's team and two more players transferred to Matewan. Hunt had approached 2006 with modest goals: to teach kids about football and build a nucleus for the future.

And the hits just keep on coming.

I'm sick after reading that story, what a joke of a leader. Not only does he let a 300yd back play in the 2nd half, he runs the no huddle offense and doesn't return punts, what a classless joke. I don't fault the kid one bit, he had one heck of a game but he should have been on the bench in the 2nd half, yes one boy holds the national record but 30 or so on the other sidelines were subject to something that never should have happened.

I worked in that area for years, and it suprises me that the coach was able to leave the field on his own two feet. I mean can you imagine having a kid on the other end of this record. This coach in my opinion has no buisness coaching young men, because this is no way for a MAN to act.

Where were the Hatfields when you need them. J/k

I agree that this is rediculous, but it is really no different than a Trinity team throwing the ball late in the 4th quarter of a game they lead by 50, or Highlands still trying to get in the end zone late in a game after developing a 40 point lead. There are a lot of programs that don't really have class when it comes to the area of calling off the dogs to save the face of the other team. I think the way Kinder has turned into a national joke is only fitting.

I agree what Matewan did was despicable but I take issue with you comparing it to anything Trinity has done. Please tell me any time that Trinity has used a no-huddle offense with a big lead, let punts go to allow for more offensive yardage or kept their startes in the game when it was out of hand. Please provide specific details of the game you are referring to.

Also please note that it wasn't a Trinity person who turned this into a Trinity thread:thumb: :D

There in absolutely no comparison in your two "examples" and what Coach Kinder did against Burch. Worlds apart.

I think I would have told my team to down the kickoffs at at the 10-yard line or so. Then take a knee three straight times to the 3-4 yard line, go for it on 4th down, and kneel at the 4. If Matewan decided to on-side kick, it would look even worse on their part. Then I would have the quarterback roll out and lose about 20 more yards. Just make it nearly impossible for him to get big chunks of yardage.

I can think of two teams that have carried out measures when they thought the team was running it up on them.

Joe Jaggers' Trigg County team was getting beat by 50 points in the fourth quarter and the other team had their starters in with three minutes left. After going for it on 4th down with the starters in and failing, Jaggers punted the ball back to them on first down, much to the delight and laughs of Trigg fans.

I can also remember a team that led 92-34 through three quarters and left their starters in to get 100. The losing coach instructed his team to run a stall offense and not shoot the ball at any time. The winning team then tried to foul on every possession to get the ball back. When the coach realized the losing coach was sending a message, he pulled the starters. They won 97-34.

Very poor decision by a person who is supposed to lead by example.

I am sure that any action taken by the school administration will be met with legal matters by the coach in question.

This guy is a discrace to high school athletics!!

Trust me... there are much deeper issues that would make posters on here want to call for Kinder's head. I dont know if anyone caught the part about Kinder and Hunt teaching together? If so, it's worth noting that while teaching together at Burch, Kinder was the Matewan coach. IMO, Yogi Kinder should be banned from high school coaching and 90% of that comes not from his on the field lack of sportsmanship, but instead from what he ahs done in the classroom and in the public eye.
