This current move will have the opposite affect. Their brand is sliding downhill as it is, only to be hastened by this dumb decision.

Exactly what was reported. Lee asked to be moved, someone ( from ESPN supposedly) tipped Travis off and he talked about it for hours on any network that would let him speak.

Thats not how an internal memo from ESPNs President made it sound.

 

"Among our Charlotte production staff there was a question as to whether - in these divisive times - Robert's assignment might create a distraction, or even worse, expose him to social hectoring and tr*lling," Skipper said in the memo.

 

"Since Robert was their primary concern, they consulted with him directly. He expressed some personal trepidation about the assignment and, when offered the chance to do the Youngstown State/Pitt game instead, opted for that game - in part because he lives in Albany and would be able to get home to his family on Saturday evening."

If that's the case why did ESPN say anything? Did they think people would care that a part time announcer switched games? And also, they are lying to the media and to their employees, since an internal memo says otherwise.

I have no inside info but I will put this together in a way that fits GT's info.

 

1. ESPN did not say anything outside ESPN. Outside media ran with it.

 

2. The first line of the internal memo ... Among our Charlotte production staff there was a question as to whether - in these divisive times - Robert's assignment might create a distraction ... Is it possible Robert Lee was the member of the Charlotte production staff that raised the question about the assignment? Perhaps ESPN didn't want to say it was Lee himself that raised the question.

 

3. If Lee is the person who raised the question, ESPN isn't lying.
