FarBeyondDriven
One in which the protection of corporate branding and image is paramount. This current move will have the opposite affect. Their brand is sliding downhill as it is, only to be hastened by this dumb decision.
Lawnboy13
Only time I watch ESPN is during college softball season, don't even watch football or basketball anymore...been about 10 plus years. Sports talk radio hasn't interested me since the turn of the century.
FarBeyondDriven
Lee is the one that asked ESPN to move him off the game to a different one. ESPN quietly did so. Race baiter extraordinaire Clay Travis spun it out of context, ESPN was forced to respond and here we are... Sounds like Mr Lee was anticipating backlash, possibly violent from tolerant and peaceful protesters.

Lee asked to be moved, someone ( from ESPN supposedly) tipped Travis off and he talked about it for hours on any network that would let him speak. Race baiter extraordinaire Clay Travis spun it out of context, ESPN was forced to respond and here we are... Thats not how an internal memo from ESPNs President made it sound. "Among our Charlotte production staff there was a question as to whether - in these divisive times - Robert's assignment might create a distraction, or even worse, expose him to social hectoring and tr*lling," Skipper said in the memo. "Since Robert was their primary concern, they consulted with him directly. He expressed some personal trepidation about the assignment and, when offered the chance to do the Youngstown State/Pitt game instead, opted for that game - in part because he lives in Albany and would be able to get home to his family on Saturday evening." halfback20
Sounds like they thought it could be an issue, approached him and offered him a different game and he took it.

I've heard from several people in the media business that Lee initiated the change. Good on ESPN for not throwing a new guy under that bus when it was made an issue... halfback20
What are your thoughts on what gametime said was told to him by people in the know? If that's the case why did ESPN say anything? Did they think people would care that a part time announcer switched games? And also, they are lying to the media and to their employees, since an internal memo says otherwise. ESPN did not say anything outside ESPN. Outside media ran with it. 2. The first line of the internal memo ... Among our Charlotte production staff there was a question as to whether - in these divisive times - Robert's assignment might create a distraction ... Is it possible Robert Lee was the member of the Charlotte production staff that raised the question about the assignment? Perhaps ESPN didn't want to say it was Lee himself that raised the question. 3. If Lee is the person who raised the question, ESPN isn't lying. Food for thought.
