Corbin 2017

What Corbin needs to do to improve is to improve their team speed on the edges. In both of their losses they were hurt by the big play on the edge, against Belfry it was a night and day change once the Pirates went outside.

To keep being successful they just need to hold course. Haddix has really re-built that program and they have a nice run going. Their Feeder Program is churning nicely and they have re-developed that winning culture and expectation. I honestly felt they were the second best 3A team in the State last year and were a Top 5 team for sure two years ago.

Corbin returns a great player in QB Cameron Sizemore. Kid is a gamer and is the Tim Tebow of Kentucky High School Football in 2017. They have some nice pieces littered around him, especially on Defense, and they have improved their schedule to better prepare them. I know they draw Tennessee Powerhouse Alcoa. They also play 5A Runner-Up Pulaski County, 1A Champs Beechwood, and 2A Powerhouse Mayfield.

The big question for Corbin is who runs the football out of the backfield and who replaces AJ Moore at WR. Moore was a special player and Sizemore's safety blanket. When they needed a big play they would throw it up for Moore and he would bring it down. Corbin has some nice young receivers but not sure they have someone with the mix of size and ball skills that Moore possessed.

I would be shocked if Corbin isn't playing Belfry for the third straight year with a trip to the Finals on the line.

Corbin's biggest holes to fill will be the defensive line, where they lost 3 solid contributors, and the defensive backfield. The defensive backfield was very good for the most part on pass defense, but as a group were not very physical and just average tacklers in my opinion. The defensive line played outstanding, especially in putting pressure on the QB in the pocket.

Offensively, they did not lose as much and I expect both the running and passing games to be a little better this year. Moore was a big loss, but Estep really came on and was the go to guy the second half of the season. They also return Mitchell, Barton and Gosselin, who combined for over 1000 yds. receiving last year. As far as the RB position, I expect Maguet, Estep and Keith to get the majority of the carries.

Sizemore will obviously be the key to the offense, both running and passing, and from what I am hearing will be an even much better QB this year.

Corbin does need to get faster on the edge and they may play some kids on both sides of the ball some to improve in that area. In the Belfry game last year, they moved their fastest player from LB to safety just for this game, which worked out well for much of the game, but in the second half he kept getting sucked up inside off of the Belfry QB's ball fakes and was out of position to help on the outside runs. He returns, along with 2 other starting LB's and this group(Simms, Money & Gibson) will need to be the strength of the defense while the newcomers get some experience. They had better grow up fast because the first 5 weeks of the schedule is going to be tough with Alcoa, Pulaski Co., Mayfield, Beechwood and rival Whitley Co. facing them.

If they get some kids to step up on the defensive side of the ball to replace last year's Sr. class, the Redhounds could be playing Belfry again in the semifinals
