DragonFire Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I think we've reached a good stopping point:
DragonFire Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Notes: Bowling Green was a unanimous choice at #1 in the Big School poll following their 23 point victory over previous #1 Warren Central. Christian County was a near-unanimous choice at #2 with all but two votes in the position. After that the gap widens considerably to the next three schools which traded positions in the voting. Marshall County and Owensboro came down to the last ballot cast. Paducah Tilghman dropped out this week after losing to Graves County, which moved up two slots on the effort. Apollo enters into the poll as a result. In the small school poll Mayfield jumps to #1 following their comeback victory against Hopkinsville. Fort Campbell vacates the #1 spot down to #3 after their loss to Madisonville. Fort Campbell barely edged undefeated Russellville for the #3 spot, which also came down to the last ballot. Lone Oak rose a spot in a losing effort to Marshall County. Metcalfe County dropped two spots despite remaining undefeated while shutting out Green County. Caldwell County jumped them into the #7 spot as a result of their victory over Union County. There are no matchups this week among the big school top 10, though Henderson County does host #11 Paducah Tilghman, and Warren East visits #12 Allen County-Scottsville. In intra-poll action, small school #1 Mayfield takes on big school #9 Graves County. In small school action #6 Lone Oak visits #7 Caldwell County.
woodsrider Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 DF, what is the scouting report on Tilghman? I know they have speed and David Jones can be play maker but why do you think they are struggling this year?
DragonFire Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 One reason is that they're incredibly young still, and as such are experiencing growing pains like any other team. David Jones is a playmaker, but much more on the ground than through the air. Against us he threw three INTs, and our secondary is probably the weakest link of the offense. One of the three TDs they scored was blown coverage on a throw, and the other was a complete fluke deflecting off of one of our players and into the hands of theirs. Their one fully legit TD was via a Jones run. Defensively their run defense was stout. Brooks started to have some success in the second half, especially late as the Paducah D tired, but in the first half he had something like 5-10 rushes for -18 yards. He was met in the backfield on most every play in that half. They sold out on the run against Central, and as such WC had a field day through the air. Ayers threw for 227 yards and 3 TDs against 1 INT, and 208 of that was to one receiver.
westsider Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Tilghman's biggest weakness continues to be the offensive line ... if you can't block, your offense simply won't be very productive. David Jones is OK at QB but he's not a great passer and his decision-making sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. Then again, it's tough to make decisions when you're constantly under pressure. Michael Jones is a powerful RB that can get the tough yards and has enough speed to break some big runs. Against Warren Central, Tilghman had a sophomore CB that was torched repeatedly by Beason, who caught three or four touchdown passes. Tilghman is young, and it shows at times. This team has some talent and could be 2-1, but mistakes have gotten them off to an 0-3 start.
woodsrider Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I have heard their O-Line is a little on the small side. Is that true? If Henderson can keep improving like they have every game I look for them to pull out a win here. I know Tilghman has a great deal to play for in this one. If they lose they will start the season 0-4 for the first time in nearly 50 years. On the other side this game kicks off a 3 game non district stretch that will be tough. They have Tilghman this week, North Hardin next at NH, and then Moeller comes to town. I would love to see them come out of this stretch 2-1 but could definitely see them going 1-2 or even 0-3. History isn't on Henderson's side when going to North Hardin and Moeller, well need I say more.
westsider Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I think North Hardin is winnable for Henderson. North Hardin seems overrated to me. Moeller ... well, that's another story.

colonel-fan Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Maybe I will wait for them to go to mass and then board up the doors on Holy Name. Don't anticipate the worst yet. Big Moe is down (by their standards), even losing to Lakota West two weeks ago, 13 - 12. Many don't expect Crable to be back next year as head man.

colonel-fan Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I hope you are right. In the interest of full disclosure, Lakota West is pretty solid and Moe bounced back to dismantle Middletown last week. But it is a long bus ride from Cincy to Henderson...

But it is a long bus ride from Cincy to Henderson... I am going to try my best to watch their game Saturday on TV. I can't remember who they play but am planning to watch X vs HHS and the Moeller game.
