Fletch Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Bowling Green 24 Christian Co. 21 AFTER TRIPLE OVER TIME
DELTA Rotary Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Wow sounds like a heckuva game. Good job purples!
DragonFire Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 The scoring took place in a 15 second span in the fourth quarter. Christian County scored via a Tandy TD pass with 11:55 left and BG took the ensuing kickoff all the way back to tie the game. Bowling Green's offense looked better, but still rough. They completed a couple of passes upfield, but mostly they threw to the flat. Their running game was not on track very well in the first half but they got going in the second half. BG missed three field goals, including two from the 30-35 yard range (the other was a 51 yarder that amounted to a punt). A lot of people are saying they'll have some of their players back next week, so they may be ready to get going against WC. The story of Christian County was Tandy, Tandy, and more Tandy. He ran, he threw, and without him they are not in the game at all. He proved incredibly elusive to the BG defense, and I don't recall them sacking him (not saying they didn't but I don't remember it). He did however throw two INTs in the first half, including one near the close of the half when they were inside BG's 10 yard line. The OT's were even, but the winner came in 3OT when Christian County went for it on 4th and Goal from the 3 and Tandy got stuffed on a sweep. Bowling Green wasted no time lining up for the field goal and it was right down the uprights. Christian County impressed me tonight, and I am anxious to see how Central stacks up against Bowling Green next week to give me an indirect idea of where they stand with Christian County. Indirect and imprecise, but it's a start. Entertaining game though!
PurpleHaze Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 The game remained scoreless through three quarters. Then CCHS scored on the first play of the fourth qtr, a pass from Tandy to Trotter. The PAT was good and CCHS led 7-0 with five seconds gone in the fourth qtr. Then the Purples answered with a 93-yard KO return by senior Anthony Davis. Senior Casey Tinius booted the PAT, and the game was tied again at 7 all with 11:40 to go in the game. With only 4.5 seconds left in the game, Tinius was attempting a 53-yard FG. The snap was bobbled, but senior Ryan Beard, the holder, took off with the ball. He fell only eight yards short of winning the game on the last play of regulation. CCHS got the ball first in the first OT. Tandy gained six yards, but was guilty of an inadvertent facemask in his attempt to straight arm a tackler. First down at the 12. Tandy to Trotter gained eight yards to the four. Then, on second down, Tandy tossed out to White, who carried it in. The PAT was good, and CCHS led 14-7. BGHS answered in their half of the OT by junior QB D.L. Moore running down to the two, then Davis no gain, then Davis muscled it in from the two. Tinius booted the PAT, and the teams went into the second OT. In the second OT, Davis made short order of the BGHS half by running it in ten yards on the first play. Tinius made the PAT again and the Purples led 21-14. CCHS was flagged immediately with illegal procedure and started at the 15 yard line. Again, one play was all that was needed. Tandy lofted a strike to Wallace for the score. Their PAT was good, and the third OT was coming. In the third OT, White ran three yards to the seven yard line. On second down, Tandy's pass fell incomplete. On third down, Williams ran to the three, a four-yard pickup. Then, on fourth down, Tandy was denied the end zone. BGHS immediately brought in Casey Tinius, who booted the game winning FG on the first play! BGHS uncharacteristically missed three FG attempts during the game, and CCHS missed two of their own. I haven't seen any numbers yet, but I'm sure that the Colonels outgained the Purples by a large margin. They held BGHS to negative yardage in the third qtr. The Purples' defense made the big plays when they had to. The offense, while still not up to snuff, was improved over last week. All in all, it was very ugly, but it was a "W", and a step in the right direction. This was the first time ever that the Purples won a game that went into more than one OT! It was also BGHS's longest game ever, because they had never gone more than two OTs in a game before tonight. Davis and Tinius are the only two players who have scored for the Purples on the season to date, with Davis having four TDs (three rushing and one kick return) and Tinius (four PATs and one FG). The BGHS reserves and those playing out of position have now had two character checks, and I think that they passed both with flying colors! Next up is The Backyard Brawl with Warren Central at Joe Hood Field on Friday. Whether or not we have most of our players back next week, it's going to be a war! Central will probably be the favorite, but to completely discount the Purples' chances would be foolish, and I know that the Dragons won't make that mistake!
Blockbuster Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Did BG lose a 3 OT game to Paducah around 1989 7-6, PH?
PurpleHaze Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Did BG lose a 3 OT game to Paducah around 1989 7-6, PH? They did lose to Tilghman by that score, but it was only two overtimes. They've also lost twice to Owensboro in two overtimes, the latest time was at the Dungeon in 1999.
