Death Penalty Deserved in this Case?

If true, this is as bad of a story as I have read in quite a while...

New Mexico: Brutal Killing of Girl Detailed by Authorities - ABC News

On the day Victoria Martens was going to celebrate her 10th birthday, she was found dead in her family's apartment by Albuquerque police officers...

I'm not going to post the rest of the details (they are horrific) except to say that her mother, mother's boyfriend and female cousin...are the worst of the worst. I have no idea how a mother could allow something like this to happen to their child.

While I am Death Penalty supporter, it doesn't bother me if some people rot in prison...I'm not sure these people deserve to breathe air anymore.

While there's a part of me that wants the firing squad for some, I come back to the logic of "killing 'em back doesn't bring 'em back," and the fact that the death penalty process is too time-consuming and costly. And that's not to mention how fraught with errors it is.

Not a DP debate per se'...just talking about this one case. Not sure they deserve the right to inhale oxygen anymore, if charges are true.

No. Outside of the ridiculously high costs and the known errors involved with the process, only barbaric societies should use the death penalty and I tend to feel we're better than that.

No error in a firing squad. Much cheaper too. 10 rifles will never misfire altogether.

Even more barbaric. Sounds about right.

So what the accused is accused of is less barbaric? Someone who drugs a kid , rapes, stabs, dismemberes a child is who you want to show leniency for? Sounds about right.

Not the point, and honestly I'm not wasting my time having the discussion with you.

Edit: Just want to clarify, as this came off as a shot at you, which it was unintended to be. We have fundamentally different views on this topic, and there's no chance of either of us convincing the other to change their mind. For that reason, it's a waste of time to even go down that road.

You kinda missed the point, this thread isn't a DP debate. It's a discussion about do these people "Deserve" it?

I don't think I did. But my answer is the same. No.

It's my fundamental belief that we don't have the right or the insight to determine if/when/or how another person dies. No person has the right to decide if another person deserves to live or die.

Hmmm...I guess that opinion coming from you makes sense, based on your previous post.

I have issues with the DP also. However, this is a case where if it is proven beyond any doubt they did what they are accused of...I have no issues with it.

I have multiple issues with the DP. To tie it to this case, we've had the DP for a long time yet it didn't stop this person from doing what they did.

It doesn't work as a deterrent.

So that gets us back to "why do we have it" discussions. It comes down to what UKMF says - we just want revenge and will get down on the accused's level. I get the concern UKMF has but part of me gets the "revenge" thing.
