I bet you wouldn't feel the same way if we had a newly elected Democratic Governor signing a bill into law making it mandatory that any new gun purchases required the new gun owner to receive counsel from a mental health professional 24 hours before being able to take possession of the new firearm.

No one is making a woman see a mental health proffesional. They are being told by the doctor performing the procedure what it all entails. Which does happen in most procedures.

The only way this bill and it's protest makes sense if Bevin was proposing a law that said before a woman could continue with an abortion is if they had the father's permission.

 

Since that isn't the case the gesture is poorly thought out and a waste of taxpayer time.

Who said anything about a woman seeing a mental health professional? I was making an analogy. But since you brought it up all doctors have a mental health tract in their training and I am sure some of those consults between a woman seeking an abortion and the doctor they have to consult with will at least in some part be a mental health evaluation/discussion/factor. Let's face it, the whole idea behind the legislation is to get the woman to change her mind and not have the abortion. With that being the goal, who would you send in? I think the best answer is a shrink.

 

Either way, isn't one of the big issues with gun control keeping guns out of the hands of mentally incompetent people? And just because someone doesn't have a history of mental illness and/or we can't access their records because of HIPPA doesn't mean they are not a few fries short of a happy meal. I think a Democrat could argue this is a great way to keep guns out the hands of the mentally ill.

My point to RTS is if the "other side" created a new anti-gun law that placed one more government restriction on his second amendment right to bear arms he may look at it different.

It's not a restriction. A restriction would be allowing a mental health provider to deny the procedure , which is not the case in the law Bevin signed. The left would want the mental health provider to deny gun ownership.

The law is telling women in KY they legally can't have an abortion unless they meet face to face or by video with a physician at least 24 hours before the abortion.
