13th Region Rankings 12-7-2015

Featured Replies

1. South Laurel - The Cardinals participated in the Legacy Nissan Classic this past week and dropped two games - a 52-51 loss to Mercer County and a 76-74 loss to Owen County. How 6-8 senior center Caleb Taylor isn't ranked as one of the top 20 players is crazy. Taylor scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds on 13-of-14 shooting against Owen County while being double-teamed throughout the game. Taylor is currently averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game while teammate Jared Grubb is averaging 10 points per game.

2. Clay County - The Tigers have looked good so far during their two games. Clay County is going to go as far as Blake Smith, who is another player that should be considered as one of the state's best, and Trey Farmer takes the Tigers.

3. Harlan County - The Black Bears are rolling and picked up a BIG win over Madison Southern on Saturday. Treyce Spurlock came up big, scoring 31 points against the Eagles.

4. North Laurel - The Jaguars are off to a 2-0 start after beating Apollo and Pike Central in the Legacy Nissan Classic. North Laurel was Les by junior guard Peyton Broughton in both games. He tallied 21 points against Apollo Saturday.

5. Whitley County - The Colonels have improved tremendously and will try to upset No. 1 South Laurel Tuesday.

6. Corbin - The Redhounds rolled past Powell County Friday by 40-plus points. Corbin will get its first test Tuesday at No. 2 Clay County.

7. Barbourville - The Tigers are off to an impressive 3-0 start thanks in part to what could quite possibly be the region's best backcourt. Brently Perry is currently averaging 23 points while Markelle Turner is averaging 21 points.

8. Bell County - The Bobcats are currently 1-2, but played No. 2 Clay County close. Big man Zach Partin is currently averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

9. Knox Central - The Panthers haven't played yet, but will be tested Tuesday when they hit the road to face No. 3 Harlan County.

10. Lynn Camp - The Wildcats are currently 2-0 under Dinky Phipps. Austyn Weddle has turned into a top-notch post player. He is averaging 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.

11. OBI - The Mountaineers struggled early, but Dejour Frazier is back in the line-up now. He is averaging 23 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

12. Jackson County - Jackson County is currently 2-1 and Lucas Moore is a big reason. He's averaging 17 points per game.

13. Harlan - The Green Dragons have surprised many with their 3-0 start. They'll be tested in this week's Bowman Invitational Tournament.

14. Pineville - The Mountain Lions are currently 1-1 on the season while producing two big scorers so far. Frederick Carnes is averaging 22.5 points while teammate Trent Lefevers is averaging 21 points per game.

15. Williamsburg - The Yellow Jackets are in rebuilding mode this season. They dropped their season-opener to Lynn Camp, 77-51. Tanner Boggs scored 23 in the loss.

16. Middlesboro - It's gonna be a long season for the Yellow Jackets, who have been outscored 316-177 during their first four games.

17. Red Bird - The Cardinals are 0-3 and have been outscored 222-111 this season.
