FS played without their leading rusher again tonight. Word is he is not yet 100% recovered from a sprained ankle and was held out as a precaution. Need him next week in a district game vs. Warren East. FS did not have the speed threat they normally do without him. That being said, Russellville played a heck of a game. They had a lot of speed but did not have as good a passing game as last year. They lined it up and ran at FS with a wing-T type offense. Their misdirection and ball fakes were very good. #12 Quarles is a LOAD for the Panthers. FS had a hard time getting him down without gang tackling. FS offense was slow starting but got better as the game progressed. Panthers took a 14-0 lead late in the 2nd, then FS scored in the final minute to make it 14-6 at the half. Second half saw sustained drives by FS as their size and depth finally wore down the class 1A Panthers. FS went up 21-20 late in the 3rd, then recovered the fumbled kickoff. FS then had 1st and 10 at the Russellville 20, but the Panther defense held up on 4th down and they then drove down to the FS 40. Russellville hit a 30-yard pass on 4th and 10 to set them up 1st and goal, but a couple of plays later, a pass to the left was intercepted by FS, who was then able to run out the clock. Great game, hard fought by both sides. Good win for FS, and Russellville should be proud of their effort against a much larger school.

Thanks for the nice recap FSfan. Congrats to FS on a solid win. I had this game marked as one of this week best matchups, and it looks like you got your money's worth.
