I was especially proud to read this letter that was shared on Facebook this morning. Bellevue is my Alma Matre and despite it being a small school there is tremendous pride among the Community. Well done Coach Weedman and the Bellevue Folks appreciate your kind words. Here is a copy.

Dear Bellevue Student Body & Community

After suffering a hard loss to the Bellevue Tiger Football Team on September 19, I witnessed a display of pride that is rarely seen in today’s youth. As I was talking to my wife in the parking lot following our game the bus carrying the cheerleaders began to pull away, and as they did you could hear the young ladies singing what I assumed to be the school fight song. Overcome with disappointment I dismissed it as adolescent females just enjoying their teenage years. Shortly thereafter, the bus carrying the football players began to pull away and as they did there was no dismissing what was taking place on that bus. The entire team was shouting the school fight song for everyone in Carroll County to hear. What a great reflection of pride! I have given what I observed a lot of thought, and realized there was an array of emotions that I experienced. My first emotion was anger. It was only after, I realized that I was upset about our loss and that I had no legitimate reason to be upset with Bellevue. The second thought I had to what I saw was how cool it was. For a collective group of teenagers to believe in something so deeply is a trait that is so rare in the youth of America today. I find that most of today’s young people are so consumed with their own personal gratification that it is hard for them to believe in something greater. The last emotion that I experienced was one of pure envy. I was envious of the pride demonstrated by the players and cheerleaders of Bellevue that is absent in the majority of the communities today.

I believe that as the world is becoming more global that we are losing our local perspective. It was refreshing to see that it still exists in Bellevue. I want to congratulate the young people of Bellevue for carrying the sense of pride and I appreciate what that stands for. I would like to encourage the Bellevue youth and the generations to follow them to never lose the pride that makes them so special.

Sincerely,

Mike Weedman

Head Football Coach

Mike Weedman is and always has and will be a class act. What a true letter. The fast paced 'Me" society and the now , now , now of wanting something, the local togetherness is becoming very distant. Congrats to the Bellevue Tigers and the community that has kept this lesson instilled in their hearts. Great job by both coaches in this matter. Hope we can get back to the basics of community pride all across the state and nation.

That's awesome! Also a lot of respect for the Carrol County coach for taking the time to write the letter.

I think Ludlow also shows a lot of school/community pride. I'm jealous of how tight some of these communities are.

I always liked the tradition of singing the school song or fight song after games. I know most colleges do but haven't heard of it in KY. Along the same lines, I like how Williamstown HS plays My Ole KY Home at the end of basketball games. We always stay just to hear it.

Very rarely do you see folks first see something in a negative light, then sit back and reflect on how it really is a positive. Most don't even take the time. It takes a good person to do it, but an even greater person to admit it. Good luck to Carroll County & Bellevue.

Oh wow...I didn't know that. That's awesome. No doubt I'd hang around for that as well.

Mike Weedman is an excellent coach and an even better man. Carroll County is lucky to have him. Unfortunately for him, the talent is just not there right now at Carroll.

Mike Weedman is definitely a class act. Many have known this before this letter was made public. In all my dealings with Coach Weedman thru clinics, camps, etc he has been nothing but professional and his love of his young men and football is very obvious.
