2014 Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game Slam Jam Festival Results

 

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – The 23rd annual Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game got off to a rousing start Friday evening with its Slam Jam All-Star Night of Stars. The skills event competition featured the top Senior’s from both states and began with the Girls 3-Point Shootout. The winning player from Ohio was Amanda Cahill of Clyde, while Kentucky’s Ashley McMurtry (Oldham County) was crowned the overall champion defeating Cahill 11-9 in the final round. The Boys 3-Point winner from Ohio was Dakota Mathias (Elida), while Kentucky was represented by Nick Ruthsatz from KHSAA State Champion Covington Catholic. Mathias defeated Ruthsatz 14-8 in the overall championship.

 

The second event of the night the 1-on-1 competition saw Ruthsatz (Covington Catholic) defeat Joe Jackson of Louisville Fern Creek by a score of 8-6 for the Kentucky Boys Championship. The Kentucky Girls winner was Danielle Lawrence (Butler) who defeated Erica Rogers from Montgomery County by a score of 9-5. The Ohio Girls Championship saw Ana Richter of Talwanda High defeat Brittany Johnson (Pickerington North) 8-4. The Girls overall champion was Richter with a 13-3 defeat of Lawrence. The Ohio Boys champion was Mathias (Elida) defeating Grant Benzinger (Moeller) 8-4. Mathias took the overall championship by a score of 11-4 over Kentucky’s Ruthsatz.

In the 3-on-3 Championship the Kentucky Girls team of Eriel McKee (Anderson County), Kayla Rankin (Perry County Central), and Sarah Cooley (Lafayette) defeated Team Ohio’s Leanna Adkins (Oak Hill), Chelsea Mitchell (Princeton) and Kelsey Mitchell (Princeton) with a last second shot 9-7. The Boys Championship was taken by the Ohio team of Grant Benzinger (Moeller), Steve Carpenter (Fairfield), and Mitch Spotleson (Lake) who took down Kentucky’s Jake Schulte (Newport Central Catholic), Joe Jackson (Fern Creek), and Brandon Trotter (Seneca) by a final margin of 11-6.

 

The night was capped off with high-flying exploits of the top dunkers from both the Bluegrass and Buckeye State’s. After 6 initial dunkers in the contest the final two athletes were Kentucky's Justin Johnson (Perry County Central) and Ohio's Javon Bess (Ghanna Lincoln). Bess took the championship by a final score of 38-36.
