The Shamrocks (4-5) first round playoff game is with the Eastern Eagles. Trinity hosts the Eagles (5-5) on Harry Jansing Field at Marshall Stadium this Friday evening. The kickoff set for 7:30PM. The Eagles lost to the Manual Crimsons 54-7 this past Friday. The Crusaders of Moeller (9-1) soundly defeated Trinity 42-14 on November 1.

 

Moeller outgained Trinity 436 to 307 in offensive yardage. Reggie Bonnafon finished with 202 yards passing by completing 20 of 32 attempts. Rodjay Burns had three catches for 52 yards and one touchdown. Cody Swabek had 4 catches for 58 yards. CJ Ott hauled in 6 receptions for 44 yards. Jalen Reed finished with 68 yards on 14 rushing attempts and one touchdown. Trinity netted 105 rushing yards on 33 attempts. The Crusaders put this one away early with their 21-point outburst in the first quarter. Moeller led 28-0 at halftime. The possibilities of a shutout or a running clock were very real in the minds of the Trinity supporters at this point in the game. Trinity scored at the 6:14 mark of the third quarter and trailed 35-7. Moeller answered with their last score as 2:23 remained in the third quarter. Trinity’s Jalen Reed scored on a 15 yard run with 3:30 left in the contest. Moeller has defeated Trinity 3 out of 4 games in the series.

 

Past Opponents: Male defeated Christian Academy of Louisville 6-0 and spoiled the Class 2A Centurions (9-1) undefeated season. The Bulldogs host the Oldham County Colonels (2-8) this Friday evening in the first round of the 6A playoffs. Manual defeated Eastern and will travel to Ballard (5-5) for their first round contest. St. Xavier stands at 6-4 after they defeated Cincinnati St. Xavier (5-5) 24-16. The Tigers travel to Fern Creek (6-4) this Friday night in first round playoff action. Indianapolis Cathedral stands at 6-5 after recording a 35-21 second round playoff win over Zionsville (4-6). They take on Anderson (4-6) in Indianapolis in second round action on 11/8. Colerain remained undefeated (10-0) with a 29-17 win over Oak Hills. The Cardinals host a first round playoff game this week. Lawrence Central finished 3-7 after their 14-0 loss to Warren Central (IN). Carmel defeated Fishers (9-2) in their second round game 35-20 to improve to 8-3. The Greyhounds visit Ft. Wayne Carroll (9-2) this week. Nashville Ensworth’s 29 game winning streak was ended by Brentwood Academy (7-3). The Eagles defeated the Tigers (8-1) 36-10. The TN playoff bracket is to be determined.

 

Future Playoff Opponents: If District 4 sweeps district 5, the Crimsons of Manual (currently 8-2) will visit St. Matthews in round 2. The St. Xavier (6-4) at Male (9-1) survivor would be the third round opponent for Trinity or Manual. Undefeated Scott County (10-0) looms as the round 4 opponent. McCracken County (8-2) or Simon Kenton (10-0) are favored to make it to the finals from the opposite bracket.

 

The varsity Rocks avoided a shutout and continued their consecutive game-scoring streak. Trinity has scored in 216 games dating to October 1998.

Eastern last played Trinity in 2010. The Rocks have won 18 in a row since the regular season OT loss to the Eagles 21-14 in 1994. Trinity rebounded in the playoffs with a 27-6 win and went on to win the state title in Dennis Lampley's last season as Head Coach. Trinity is 34-2 in the series that started in the fall of 1977. Eastern's other win came in 1993 by the rare score of 20-4. The Rocks managed two safeties in that contest.
