theguru Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has handed down sanctions for Holy Cross (Louisville) for violation of Bylaw 10. The breach of Bylaw 10 was the result of members of the Holy Cross football staff entering two non-enrolled students (public school students at a non-feeder school to HCHS) into school-based weightlifting competition and activities. “Members of our new coaching staff involuntarily, and unknowingly, violated bylaw 10 from the KHSAA handbook,” said Holy Cross (Lou.) Athletic DirectorJody Thornsberry. “Once the violation was brought to our attention, we immediately took the necessary steps to work with the KHSAA and rectify the situation.” 2012-2013 News Releases | Kentucky High School Athletic Association
theguru Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Big deal or minor oversight on the part of Louisville Holy Cross?
CoachBuckett Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Isn't this the second time they been in violation of recruiting?
Clyde Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Isn't this the second time they been in violation of recruiting? That's exactly what I was going to ask.
tcjkbt Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Isn't this the second time they been in violation of recruiting? As I remember, their coach from a few years ago - Ray Reidinger - (I know I'm way off on his name) was involved in some infractions and had to be let go.
time2punt Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted on this a while back. 3rd time in 8 years they have been reported!
gchs_uk9 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted on this a while back. 3rd time in 8 years they have been reported! Apparently all by the same coach, Brett Newton at North Bullitt. You wonder if all three violations have pertained to recruiting kids from the North Bullitt district? Can anyone give further information on the previous violations?
dawgs83 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 KHSAA is so mad at Trinity they decided to put Holy Cross on probation again. They aint doing anything that any other school in Jeff. co is doing public or private.
Ram Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Well, judging by what I know other schools have gotten away with, this must be a blatant disregard for the rules. "Big Deal"
BigVMan23 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Come on. After reading the press release I can't believe the coaches/teachers who let the kids participate are actually that dumb. Because they passed an entry exam the coaches interpret that as being the kids can play sports, but yet are still enrolled at another school and not officially enrolled at HC? Sorry, I don't buy that the coaches were that "uninformed" on the matter.
Dark Horse78 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Many JCPS schools don't have "feeders" so they are recruiting students to the school through the MCA programs. I dont' personally know of any that go out of county (as it appears HC did) to get kids. I think that is the major difference between the two, as best I can tell.

CoachBuckett Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Although he is new Head Coach, if not mistaken hasn't he been involved with Holy Cross for some time?
time2punt Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Yeah, I think he was a player at HC when the Reidinger guy got let go the last time they were sanctioned. Claiming ignorance of the rules is bogus.
Ram Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 On the remote chance that he didn't know, ignorance of the law is no excuse. In his position, it is his responsibility to know the rules. So, knowing, or not knowing, is not an argument as far as I'm concerned.
