I am always amazed at the number of coaches on the listserv looking to sell uniforms that are almost always described as new or only worn x number of times. Today there is a school advertising jerseys that were only worn 1 season. I have seen coaches looking to sell new pants that were still in the original packaging.

Can someone explain to me how these schools have enough money that they can purchase pants that are never worn and then replace them or wear jerseys for a single season and then replance them?

School Color or logo changes could play into this. Also depends on the uniform rotation plan the school has. Team could have multiple sets of Jerseys/pants and just looking to dump one to get another.

In my day one year we would get new home jerseys then new road the next year. The old ones were passed to JV then onto the freshman teams. I personally hate logo change and constant jersey change. Find a logo that works and stay with the same unis. Yes you will ndeed new ones but keep same design. HHS for example. Highlands across chest bird on sleeve. Simple classic and puts fear in other teams when they see it

There are a number of reasons like that have already been stated. Sometimes there are rule changes that require the change. Sometimes the jersey's don't fit like the team thought they would. Its no tlike the team gets to try on all the different sizes. Some years you might order more of a size of pants then you need just by roster size.

Other reasons are new coach is hired and wants to change it up a bit. Also, manufacterers offer whole athletic departments deals as long as all sports are wearing their brand ex. Nike, UnderArmor or Russell. So if you have Nike jersey's and your school signs a deal with Russell, you are forced to change as well.

All of the reasons above, and sometimes, it's money from the outside. For example, raising money through booster clubs.

Fact is, kids like the new uniform looks. All of us have wanted to look good in our days, but kids these days it just matters a lot more too, IMHO.

I think a lot of coaches do it as a recruiting tool. I get it.

If you have money to buy new uniforms to replace uniforms you have never used or used for 1 year, then you have too much money for football.

I would also be curious how that works with Title IX, especially if a booster club is buying or supplementing the cost of the uniforms.

Still counts on Title IX if booster club pays for it.

I know a school in Central Kentucky who has a seperate Title 9 "fund" for all sports that is ontop of the already alloted budget for football, as all sports have.

Long story short, this football team has a school budget of $13,000. And, they are on a 3 year rotation for different portions of the Title 9 fund.

Year 1: 9K from Title 9 Fund

Year 2: 5K from Title 9 Fund

Year 3: 0

..then, it starts back over at the top.

This isn't just for football, but all sports (granted each sport I believe gets their % of the cut, but football, boys basketball and girls basketball I know are all on this).

So, for the sake of the thread, let's say Clark County has the same type of set up as the above. If they used the 9K to buy uniforms last year, but wanted new ones this year, I would say that the 5K would buy jerseys (not to mention the money they will get back from the jerseys they are trying to sell).

As for the boosters, if that factors into Title 9 laws, how is it that several booster clubs across the state who are football specific bring in thousands (and, some in the hundreds of thousands) a year, and apply it to football only?

The Title 9 fund above is great. Know what the joke is, though? The Band at this school gets their own, seperate Title 9 fund in upwards of 20K a year.....every year.

Hold on now... I see where you are from Fort Thomas... I believe FT purchases new helmets each year, 100 of them.

I assure FT is the only program buying new, helmets each year.

I am not knocking FT for buying them either, but I think your comments are unjust.

I wasn't going to go there, and I don't know for sure if it's every year, but I do know that helmets have a certified 10 year life on them. Ft. Thomas is always ahead of the game with the newest helmets, and in large masses. If the school down the road has 4 Revo Speeds in their first year of production, Highlands has 4x's that many.

Keep in mind that I'm all for their spending on equipping their young men with the best equipment.

But, I've heard football equipment dealers talk (in particular a certain Helmet and Shoulder pad company), and money is none factor for the birds when it comes to this.

Again, great for them. I love everything about the program, and this is just another quality.

:lol:Totally not true. Seniors each year are given the opportunity to purchase their helmets and jerseys. Those two things are replaced as needed based on how many are bought out. Yes they other replace helmets, but not all. If so, my son has gotten jipped the last 2 years then along with 90% of the other underclassmen. It just doesn't happen. Now the helmets may just be a year or two old, but are reconditioned. As far as uniforms, there are kids using jerseys that have been around for 10+ yrs. I even had to buy my own practice pants because his were torn so bad, pads were falling out. The notion that the kids that play for HHS only get the best is a fallacy. Yes, some equipment is new, but not all. Far from it.

Y'all need to get your info straight before you post. Just saying!

Most of what you say is true, but they don't buy 100 helmets each year like others say. They get new equipment as needed. And every year some is needed.

I know many schools out there that have this going on. Either for practice and/or underclassmen game gear.

Revert to my above post. 100 new helmets is way over; however, I know for a fact (unless these sales reps are being totally false) that Highlands gets the gear they need, when they need & a good amount of it.

Heck, embrace it IF true; I can promise you that this guy is in NO WAY hating on on it.
