  1. I agree with Run and Hit. The best in Louisville is almost always better than the best in Lexington, I'd say because of the ability to draw the best players to a few schools. The Lexington feeder programs in football are poor, especially the public middle school programs. If Lex Cath reaches 4A size, they will start doing what their basketall program has done: draw more of the best players. I believe that three players on their last championship team were from the Bryan Station district (which is one of many reasons why that basketball program was so poor that they refused a challenge to play a pick up team from a PE class). Some folks will be happy when that happens since many already consider them the only real football power in the city and they would then have the players to compete. I worry about the Atherton/Southern'ing of the rest of the Fayette County public schools. High School sports is a rallying point of community support (whether it should be or not) and the public schools will be poorer if that community support is less. I really don't see the public schools getting better financial support from the city for a long time.
  2. Now who said this? That would be you, RAM95... My post disputed your notion that even if you take out the big 3, the rest of Louisville is even with Lexington. I did it with real games played as opposed to your assumption that, if the big 3 weren't there, another Louisville school would ahve been. I am fairly certain that in 1999 Hopkinsville would have been in the finals without St X. Are you also going to assume away the west and south? Sounds like you are (in typical Louisville fashion). Are you now claiming that my listing of real games played is being hypothetical while your claim that if the big 3 weren't there that another Louisville school would ahve been is not? And it is my guess that even in Louisville the worst teams do not make the playoffs. Real games played are pointless but your leaps are not. Right.... I am certainly convinced that the original premise of this thread is wrong, especially this year, probably the last three years. The teams that I have seen in Lexington are not in a position to contend and it is sheer bravado to think otherwise, although I do not blame any player for wanting to believe it. Since my football playing son has graduated, I have tried to be impartial. That is why I stuck to real scores of games played. Statements like "If Eastern Manual or Ballard this year played your bottom three they would wipe the floor with them" is just that. It has no basis in fact. Anything I say is pointless? What an ingenious way to win an argument: victory by proclamation. Again, you are proing that logic is not your strong suit.
  3. I would guess that it is not sinking in because it is not valid. Let's examine playoff history since 1995. In 1995, Henry Clay beat Louisville Central and lost to St X. In 1996, Dunbar beat Fairdale In 1997, There were no games between Lexington and Louisville teams because the Lexington team lost to Boone County. In 1998, Tates Creek beat Trinity and lost to Male. In 1999, Henry Clay beat Ballard and lost to Trinity, Bryan Station beat Eastern, Fern Creek, and Trinity before losing to St X in the finals In 2000, Bryan Station lost to Eastern, Henry Clay beat Seneca, Eastern before losing to Trinity, and Tates Creek lost to Trinity In 2001, Tates Creek lost to Trinity Since 1995, Lexington 4A teams are 2-7 versus the big 3, but are 7-1 against all other Louisville schools. The big 3 are definitely "DOMINANT", as they are against schools from Louisville. There is no evidence whatsoever that the rest of Louisville is dominant. In fact, the evidence for the contrary is easy to see. You can talk all you want about hypothetical games, but the ones I listed are real games played. The original premise of this thread is flawed. There is no reason to think any team from Lexington should be ranked over any of the big 3 this year. It isn't even close and hasn't been for 3 years.
  4. There is not a team in Lexington or even in the district that can compete this year with any one of the big three. In fact, I haven't seen a team since 1999 that I thought could. I am assuming that that year was an anomoly. It may happen every 4 or 5 years, but no more often. That does not mean that there is no talent in Lexington, just not enough of it on one team. Lex Cath does pull some players from other teams, but not that many. Once they reach 4A size, they will probably draw more and could then be a real force in 4A, even moreso than they have been in 3A.
  5. In what years were Lexington teams on opposite sides of the brackets so that they could meet in the finals? Name the year.
  6. Did you forget 1999? Of course, you did... Now for your response (or someone from St X) before you do it, yes St X won, in overtime. I wouldn't call it a blow out.
  7. I disagree strongly unless you really meant an allstar team rather than a real team constructed from the best players in Lexington. If you could construct a "team" from all of the best players in Lexington, you would have a team with competition for each position. This is something that most of the best players do not face on their current teams. There are many players who cannot be pushed in practice by anyone on their team. This is most critical for linemen. If there is no one as strong or as quick on the opposite line, they will have trouble dealing with it in a game situation. They also will not improve as much on their technique or realize any shortcoming if it can't be exploited by the opposite number in practice. There are several potential D1 players on the roster of the Lexington teams, just not enough on any one team to push each other. A constructed team would have that and the competition would hone it. It is ridiculous speculation to state that the best talent on the 5 Lexington teams could be put together and form a team that still couldn't beat any of the top 3 in Louisville. This also flies in the face of all the talk about "wasted" talent on the Lexington teams and that Trinity and St X win with less talent but with "better discipline, heart, and tradition." Then again, you would have to come up with an all star coaching staff also. This plays a very big part in causing talent to be "wasted."
  8. How logical is this? They can't possibly ever meet in the finals. They will never be in the opposite sides of the bracket. You could make the same ignorant statement about NKY 3A teams. They have never met in the finals either so how good could Cov Cath or Highlands be? Surely they would have met once in the finals if they were really any good. Logic is not your strong suit
