  1. Knox Central looks to start another strong run after going 10-4 last season en route to a state semifinal finish, falling to Johnson Central 59-20. That was one week after Ashland fell to the same Johnson Central team by a 50-14 score, ending a 11-2 campaign where they lost both times to Johnson Central. They've escaped their tormentors with the drop to 3A. This is one of the marquee matchups in the state - who wins?
  2. Knox Central enters at 1-1, and took the off week to clear their head from a blowout loss against Tennessee power Alcoa. The Panthers haven't fallen to Harlan County since 2013, and enjoyed a 43-23 blowout a year ago. Harlan County is 0-2 - will Knox send them to 0-3?
  3. Knox Central got the season started right with a 49-22 win over Letcher County Central. It's a second straight year starting off in the victory column for a veteran Knox team. They will take on Alcoa in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic at Corbin on August 25th. Alcoa is a monster of a matchup. Annually one of the best teams in Tennessee, Alcoa has won their class the last five seasons. Can Knox Central come out with the win?
  4. The Panthers got their bell rung a bit bit Franklin County, losing to a Kentucky team for the first time this season, snapping a five game win streak, and pumping the breaks on them being the region favorites. They stay on the road this week to take on a Rockcastle County team that in theory remains in the hunt for the #1 seed. The Rockets could force a three-way tie atop the district with a win, but will settle into #3 with a loss. They won their last two games by a combined four points to stave off playoff elimination possibilities. Last season Knox laid a 31-8 beatdown on Rockcastle, and the 4-4 Rockets will not be the favorites here. Can they pull any tricks out at home?
  5. THE game in 4A for this week, and possibly the most anticipated one of the year thus far. Wayne County is 5-2, with their only losses coming to powerhouses in Frederick Douglass and Boyle County. The Cardinals are the standard in District 6. They've won the district two of the last three years and the region in all three years since they moved up to 4A. Brody Weaver has performed admirably, tossing 15 touchdowns against 5 INTs in seven games. He'll lead the Cards against a Knox Central team that they've beaten in all four meetings since joining the district. Knox Central has likely had this game circled on their calendar, correctly anticipating that this is where the district will be decided. They get it at home, where they haven't lost since falling to Corbin 39-0 in 2016. Most notably they nearly pulled the upset on the Cardinals at home in a 20-16 loss two years ago. They'll be counting on that home edge to springboard them to the (almost certain) district title and rev up for the postseason. Will it be the Cardinals or the Panthers to take over District 6 on Friday night?
  6. One month ago, Knox Central lost their favorite status in Region 3 with a 42-20 loss at Franklin County. 35 days later, with homefield advantage on their side, they took down a 13-7 overtime result in the rematch to win their first region title ever. Their reward? A Johnson Central team that has not lost to a Kentucky team all year, riding a 12 game winning streak, and fresh off of splattering #3 Ashland by a 50-14 result. Johnson Central has not lost at home in two years, and no 4A squad has won at Johnson Central since 2014. You might say the Golden Eagles are a pretty solid favorite. Can Knox Central pull off the upset of all upsets?
  7. There was no close call for Knox Central this year against Russell County, as the Panthers moved to 4-1 with a 49-19 blowout win. They're still unbeaten against Kentucky competition, and have topped 36 points in each of those wins. This week they have a tuneup with Clay County before their crucial potential district title match with Wayne County on October 5th. Last year Knox Central thumped Clay 36-8, and the Tigers enter this one at just 1-4. They've failed to top 18 points in any of their losses, including falling 56-14 to Wayne County last week. Will Knox Central overlook Clay County or are they nothing more than a speedbump?
  8. The Panthers remained unbeaten against in-state competition with a smooth 3 6-0 win on the road at Green County. A surging Russell County team awaits them in their district opener. The Lakers are 3-1, and starting to climb into the periphery of the 4A rankings. Last season the homestanding Lakers gave Knox Central all they wanted in a 34-27 Knox Central win. Will Knox be able to defend their home turf?
  9. Bluegrasspreps.com is giving you a chance to demonstrate your basketball expertise statewide! The Bluegrasspreps Regional Pick 'em contests give you opportunities to pick games in different parts of the state for prizes EACH WEEK. There will be five regional contests every week. You will have a chance to pick the winners in each region -- NKY, EKY, Bluegrass, Louisville, and WKY. This is the EKY contest. The Eastern Kentucky Contest is Sponsored by YOUR BUSINESS HERE. Contact theguru at theguru@fuse.netfor details Each region will have five games to pick from each week. We pick the games, and you will pick the winner of each game, assigning your picks a point value of 7-5-3-2-1. The first tiebreaker is picking the team (of the ten teams in the contest) that scores the most points. You don't have to pick the highest scoring team, you just have to pick a team that scores more points than the team(s) picked by the member(s) you are tied with. The second tiebreaker is time. Early bird gets the worm if the contest comes down to the second tiebreaker. This is a season long contest and you can enter in any or all regions that you wish. At the end of the regular season, the top two contestants will compete during the special Sweet 16 Contest for statewide bragging rights on Bluegrasspreps and a grand prize. If you win more than one position in the postseason playoff, then your second slot will go to the next contestant in order.. The more contests you enter, the better your chances of qualifying for the Sweet 16 Contest. If you win a weekly contest, you will receive a quality prize. Check here for a reference. The deadline for all entries is 5 p.m. (ET) Friday. Make sure you post your winners and assign each of them one of the following point values (7-5-3-2-1) based on how strongly you feel that that team will win.(Please note that if your selections are NOT in the specified format, your ENTIRE set of picks will be voided) 7 5 3 2 1 1st Tiebreaker: Team scoring the most points. 2nd Tiebreaker: Time of post. The Week 6 games are: Corbin at Knox Central Campbell County TN at Knott County Central Allen Central at South Floyd Betsy Layne at Prestonsburg Buckhorn at Leslie County
  10. Knox Central comes in with a 2-2-1 record thanks to a 7-7 tie against Henry Clay. It's been an up and down few weeks for Knox Central, but the game against Russell County should be what the doctor ordered in the run-up to their difficult October slate. Russell County is 2-3, but has lost by an average of just over 27 points per game in their last three. A season ago the Lakers were suffering through a winless season, and Knox Central ended up saddling them with the last of four shutout losses on the year in a 41-0 decision. What will we see this time?
  11. Knox Central has my favorite record of any team: 3-2-1. Last week they chopped down Russell County by a 35-21 score to open district play. This week they visit 1-5 Clay County, which has not won since the season opener and hasn't scored since September 9th. On paper, this looks like a massive mismatch. Who wins?
  12. Spencer County got all they wanted from North Oldham, but held on for another one score win in a 21-13 decision over North Oldham. It was their sixth straight win, and three of them have come by one score or less, and another was also in single digits. This week they'll face a Franklin County team that is just 2-5, but is coming off a scare of Collins (38-31). A year ago the Flyers were flying higher, but still fell 47-42 to Spencer County. The Bears will likely be guarding against peeking ahead to their showdown with Shelby County, a game that should decide the district. Will Spencer County get caught looking or continue their impressive streak?
  13. No team is really thrilled with a 1-2 record, but for Knox Central, they're on the exact same track they were on during last season's region runner-up finish. They opened 1-2, entering this week fresh off a two score loss to a strong Southwestern team. This year, it was a 34-20 loss to Southwestern in the Appalachian Bowl. The 2015 edition started 2-3 before going on a 6-1 run to reach the region finals. This year they'll host Harlan County, which is likewise 1-2, just as they were last year in this game. They too have played a bruising schedule, with road trips to Pulaski County and Belfry sandwiched around a home meet with Clay County. We at least know these teams have been tested in the fire. Who wins this test?
  14. Only ten seniors were lost from the 2015 region runner-up Knox Central squad, featuring an experienced offensive line paving the way for Donavan Arthur, a 1,274 yard rusher a season ago. Last season they had a tough schedule, and this season does not deviate, as the Panthers step up in class to take on 6A Madison Central in the Roy Kidd Bowl. Last season it was Bryan Station putting a 49-0 hurt on them - will Knox fare better to open this time?
  15. Knox Central fell 8-7 to Madison Central in their first game, a defensive struggle that saw the Panthers not even reach 200 yards of total offense. But, glass half full, last year, they lost 49-0 in Game 1 and then went on to make a statement in a win over Louisville Central in the second week. This year, they'll get Waggener, a 41-6 winner over Iroquois in Week 1. Can Knox Central get in the win column?
  16. Two ranked teams square off in the Appalachian Bowl at Clay County when Knox Central and Southwestern meet this Friday. Both teams enter at 1-1 after Southwestern fell in a 35-34 nailbiter to Danville, while Knox Central squared their record with a 46-7 blowout of Waggener in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic. Last year the Warriors got the best of Knox in a 26-15 decision in this bowl. Who comes out on top this time?
