  1. Bluegrasspreps.com is giving you a chance to show off your football knowledge statewide! The Bluegrasspreps Regional Pick 'em gives you a chance to pick games in different parts of the state for prizes EACH WEEK. There will be five regional contests every week. You will have a chance to pick the winners in each region -- NKY, EKY, Lexington/Central Ky, Louisville, and WKY. Each region will have five games to pick from each week. We pick the games, and you will pick the winner of each game, assigning your picks a point value of 7-5-3-2-1. The first tiebreaker is picking the team (of the ten teams in the contest) that scores the most points. You don't have to pick the highest scoring team, you just have to pick a team that scores more points than the team(s) picked by the member(s) you are tied with. The second tiebreaker is time. This is a season long contest and you can enter in any or all regions that you wish. At the end of the regular season, the top two finishers in each region will compete during the playoffs for statewide bragging rights on Bluegrasspreps. If a contestant qualifies in more than one region, then the highest point total statewide from a non-qualifying contestant will advance as a Wild Card. The best part is, if you win a weekly contest, you will receive a quality prize. http://bluegrasspreps.com/new-member-introduction/contest-prizes-for-366882.html The overall state winner after the playoffs will get a grand prize custom made for you. The deadline for all entries is 5 p.m. (ET) Friday. Be sure to post your winners and assign each of them one of the following point values (7-5-3-2-1) based on how strongly you feel that that team will win. (Please note that if your selections are NOT in the specified format, your ENTIRE set of picks will be voided) 7 5 3 2 1 1st Tiebreaker 2nd Tiebreaker: Time of post. The games for Week 7 in the Northern KY Regional contest are: Gallatin County at Owen County Beechwood at Simon Kenton Bracken County at Paris Holmes at Covington Holy Cross Ludlow at Bishop Brossart

  10. Thanks to Orange Leaf Crescent Springs for sponsoring the Northern Kentucky Power Rankings. We encourage everyone to patronize our sponsors, and you can visit them at 2311 Buttermilk Crossing in Crescent Springs. Feel free to bring along this premium coupon when you visit! THE RANKINGS: 10) Lloyd Memorial (2A / 5-3) – The Juggernauts were looking fairly solid on Friday, particularly in the first half, but New Cath appeared to be a team of inconsistency, and the Juggs were certainly capitalizing on it. Lloyd held on to a lead through the beginning of the 4th quarter, but New Cath continued chipping away at the Juggernauts’ lead until the Breds finally pulled ahead for the win with just over a minute left in the game. It was a tough loss for Lloyd, who will be hosting the 2A Holy Cross Indians this week, who will come into the game with a 4-4 record. 9) Newport Central Catholic (2A / 4-4) – I said last week in my rankings that New Cath and Lloyd would be “fighting it out”, and that’s certainly how the game ended up playing out. The first half left New Cath looking shaky and a little out of control, and despite Lloyd leading for most of the game, it was New Cath who ended up fighting the hardest in the 4th quarter and managing to come from behind and take home the victory, winning 29-26 over the Juggs. New Cath has their annual cross-town match against the 2A Newport Wildcats this week. 8) Scott (4A / 7-1) –The Eagles struggled a little to get their 7th win of the season. Even with over 500 total yards of offense, Scott trailed for most of the game, only pulling ahead of 4A Bourbon County in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game. Regardless, with Danny Fitzgerald, Roberto London, and Deondre Pleasant all rushing for 100+ yards the Eagles were able to send the Colonels home with a loss, winning 42-35. Scott will take on the 4A Holmes Bulldogs this week on the road. 7) Conner (6A / 6-2) – I may have questioned Conner a bit last week in my rankings, but this week the Cougars left it all on the field, despite losing to 6A Ryle 46-34. Conner was leading 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, and kept the game tied at 7 at the half. Ryle really only began to pull away with the win when they scored to go up 36-28 with 6 minutes left in the game. It’s tough to gauge #7 Conner against #6 Beechwood - particularly due to their size and because of a couple of shaky performances from the Cougars this season - bit there is not much margin, if any, between the two teams as far as I can see. Conner will host the 6A Cooper Jaguars this week. 6) Beechwood (1A / 7-1) – Beechwood has average over 58 points per game in their last four wins. To say that they have their offense firing on all cylinders would be an understatement. This week Beechwood’s high-powered offense put up 62 points on the 1A Ludlow Panthers in a 62-6 victory over their district competitors. The Tigers will host 1A Dayton this week for their final district game. 5) Covington Catholic (5A / 2-6) – Cov Cath will have to fight for a second shot at the Bluebirds in the playoffs if they hope to get their first victory over 5A Highlands since 2006. The first half of Saturday’s game looked good for the Colonels, who than doubled the Birds’ offensive yardage in the first half. Highlands was able to essentially put a complete stop to Cov Cath’s run game in the second half, and put the game away with a 3rd quarter touchdown, holding on to beat the Colonels 14-10. Cov Cath will have to rebound against the 5A Dixie Heights Colonels this Friday in their final district game of the season. 4) Highlands (5A / 3-5) – This may not be a “usual season” for the Birds, but they definitely did one thing as usual…they put away another win against 5A Covington Catholic. Despite Cov Cath’s 10-7 lead at halftime, the Bluebirds were able to make adjustments and successfully control the pace of the game and stop the Colonels’ offense in the second half of Saturday’s game. Highlands takes on the 5A Grant County Braves this week in Ft. Thomas. 3) Ryle (6A / 7-1) – Ryle hosted the 6A Conner Cougars this week, and beat the Cougars 46-34. What was most surprising in this game was the fact that things were all tied up at the half, and Conner only trailed by 1 point as late as the fourth quarter of the game. Not exactly what most of us were expecting going into this game, but as I’ve said before, a win is a win. The Raiders will need to shake things off from Friday, and move on to preparing themselves to take on the undefeated 6A Simon Kenton Pioneers this week. 2) Cooper (6A / 7-2) – Cooper traveled to Florence on Friday, and come home with a 43-7 victory over the immensely struggling 6A Boone County Rebels. The story of this game was the absence of Torrey Cordell-Armstrong, who was injured in the previous week while playing 6A Ryle. TCA has been their go-to running back this season, and will be a must-have in the backfield if the Jags hope to make a run at reappearance in Bowling Green. Cooper heads to 6A Conner on Friday night for their final game of the regular season. 1) Simon Kenton (6A / 8-0) – All signs are pointing towards a 10-0 regular season for the Pioneers. After a commanding 51-15 win over 6A Campbell County this past Friday, Simon Kenton will be taking on the 6A Ryle Raiders this week in one of their tougher games this season. Still, given the way this season has gone, there’s no reason not to expect another win this week out of the Pioneers, as they are the clear favorite going into the game. Player Of The Week: Danny Fitzgerald (Scott) Fitzgerald went 7 for 8 and 54 yards passing, and rushed 12 times for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns in Scott’s 42-35 win over the 4A Bourbon County Colonels. Game Of The Week: Holy Cross (2A) vs. Lloyd Memorial (2A) The 5-3 Juggernauts will host the 4-4 Indians this week. With Holy Cross beating 2A Newport by 42 and losing to 2A New Cath by 7, and Lloyd beating Newport by 36 and losing to New Cath by 3, this game looks to be a pretty even matchup between these two district competitors. Trending Up: 6A Conner – Despite a loss this week, the Cougars’ ability to hang tough with the 6A Raiders through three quarters on Friday night shows that Conner is putting things together as they near the beginning of the playoffs. 2A Holy Cross – In their last three games, the Indians have won twice, and played 2A New Cath to within a touchdown. Holy Cross may only be 4-4 right now, but in the midst of district competition and heading towards the playoffs, things aren’t looking half bad in Latonia. Trending Down: 5A Covington Catholic – The Colonels still only have two wins this season, taking a tough loss on senior day this past Saturday to arch-rival and district competitor, 5A Highlands. 5A Grant County – After starting out 3-2 and having an early season lead in their district, the Braves’ strength of schedule is beginning to show, after losing their 3rd game straight, and their second straight game in district competition.

The winner came down to the first tiebreaker - the entry with the highest scoring team picked as the tiebreaker entry. In a rather confusing move, TAC decided to choose Beechwood as his highest scoring team, even while picking Cov Cath to beat out Beechwood. Had TAC gone with the winner of that game, he would have won the contest for the week, but instead this week's winner was: 2 Humped Camel. 16. THE RANKINGS: 10) Lloyd Memorial (2A / 6-3) – It was a bit of a back and forth game on Friday for the Juggs but they managed to pull out a win all the same, beating the 2A Holy Cross in their last district game of the regular season, and finishing second in the district. Lloyd will be on the road for the final game of the regular season, taking on the 4A Harrison County Thorobreds in Cynthiana on Friday. 9) Newport Central Catholic (2A / 5-4) – The Breds have fared well in districts this year, winning the third of their three district games with a 48-8 win over the 2A Newport Wildcats on Friday. It will likely be tough in the postseason, nonetheless, and New Cath will be preparing for their playoff run by testing themselves this week against the 1A Beechwood Tigers, one of New Cath’s biggest rivals. 8) Scott (4A / 8-1) – This season the Eagles have proved that grinding out teams on the ground can still make for a solid game of football, averaging an impressive 39 points per game in the 9 games they have played thus far this season with an offense almost entirely based around the run-game. They finished out their district competition this season undefeated with a 42-6 win on Friday against the 4A Holmes Bulldogs. However, Scott will have their toughest game of the season this week when they host the undefeated 6A Simon Kenton Pioneers in what is likely to be a loss for the Eagles. 6T) Conner (6A / 6-3) – Conner raised a number of eyebrows around Northern Kentucky this week when they held the 6A Cooper Jaguars to a surprising 2 point margin of victory in the Jags' 15-13 win over the Cougars. It’s clear that the Cougars have improved their game as the regular season has progressed this season, but with a few shaky performances along the way and so few mutual competitors to compare them against the likes of 5A Covington Catholic and 1A Beechwood, it’s tough to say exactly where they stand up against them. After finishing third in their district, Conner will be finishing out their regular season against the 4A Mason County Royals on Friday in Hebron. 6T) Beechwood (1A / 8-1) – The Tigers only allowed their district competitors to score 6 points this season, versus their own 180 points scored against the competitors. Their final district win came this past Friday as Beechwood rolled over the 1A Dayton Greendevils 69-l60. Things are looking better and better for Beechwood in the 1A playoffs, but not before they take on the rival 2A New Cath Thoroughbreds this Friday in their final regular season competition. 5) Covington Catholic (5A / 3-6) – Cov Cath finished out district play on Friday by beating the 5A Dixie Colonels 42-14 on the road. The win secures the #2 spot in the district for Cov Cath, behind #1 Highlands, and ahead of #3 Dixie Heights and #4 Grant County. The Colonels are heading to 6A Scott County this week to take on the 8-1 Cardinals in the final game of their regular season. 4) Highlands (5A / 4-5) – Highlands is fighting things out this year and working their hardest to finish out without a regular season losing record. Friday’s win against 5A Grant County was a step in the right direction for the Birds, as they finished out on top of their district and put up their third straight win as they approach the final week of the regular season. This week Highlands will take on the 6A Boone County Rebels in Florence. The 0-9 Rebels will undoubtedly have a tough time against the Birds. 3) Ryle (6A / 7-2) – Ryle traveled to Independence on Friday to take on the 6A Simon Kenton Pioneers. Despite only allowing the Neers a 29 yard advantage on offense, the Raiders were outscored 28-7. Ryle heads to Edgewood this week to take on the 5A Dixie Heights Colonels to finish out their regular season. 2) Cooper (6A / 8-2) – Cooper finished out their regular season on Friday by beating 6A Conner 15-13 on the road. It may have been a surprising final score with the Cooper offense struggling in the air, but even with the continued absence of Torrey Cordell-Armstrong in the backfield, the Jags still managed to put together a solid 225 yards rushing as they finished #1 in their district. Cooper will have the week off as they prepare for the 6A playoffs. 1) Simon Kenton (6A / 9-0) – Only one game remains between Simon Kenton and their second undefeated regular season in 3 years. After beating 6A Ryle on Friday 28-7, the only team standing between the Neers and 10-0 is 4A Scott High School. Scott may be coming in bragging their best regular season on record (8-1), but there’s not much doubting that the Pioneers will be leaving Taylor Mill with a win this Friday. Player Of The Week: Ethan Stringer (Beechwood) Stringer rushed for 148 yards on a mere FOUR carries on Friday, bringing his rushing total to 1,274 yards thus far this season. In nine games, Ethan has averaged an impressive 9.7 yards per carry and 141 yards per game. Game Of The Week: Covington Catholic (5A) vs. Scott County (6A) The 3-6 Colonels have been beaten down by a monster schedule this year, and their final regular season game doesn’t look to be much different. Cov Cath will be hoping they can capitalize on a difficult game played by 6A Scott County last week as they look to see if they can scratch out another win on the road this Friday. Trending Up/Down: With most of the mandatory district games taking place in the last few weeks of the regular season, it’s tough to really pinpoint teams’ “upward” and “downward” trends, but 6A Simon Kenton, and 1A Beechwood are looking to have their game together as they approach the post-season, while teams like 4A Holmes, 2A New Cath, and 1A Ludlow look to still be struggling a bit.

  18. BluegrassPreps.com is giving you a chance to show off your football knowledge statewide! The BluegrassPreps Regional Contests give you chances to pick games in different parts of the state for prizes each week of the regular season. There will be five regional contests every week. You will have a chance to pick the winners in each region -- NKY, EKY, Lexington/Central KY, Louisville, and WKY. This is the NKY Contest. The best part is, if you win a weekly contest, you will receive your choice of BGP merchandise! There will also be merchandise for the overall season winner. The deadline for all entries is 5:00pm EST Friday. Be sure to post your winners and assign each of them one of the following point values (7-5-3-2-1) based on how strongly you feel that that team will win. (Please note that if your selections are NOT in the specified format, your ENTIRE set of picks will be voided.) 7 5 3 2 1 1st Tiebreaker 2nd Tiebreaker: Time of post. The games this week for the Northern Kentucky Area Regional contest are: Campbell County vs. Conner Covington Catholic vs. Bishop Chatard (IN) Dixie Heights vs. Highlands Holmes vs. Bourbon County Scott vs. Taft (OH) Be sure to pick ONE winner for each game and to indicate the point value!
