  1. I do want to give :thumb::thumb: to the Montgomery Co staff for an excellant ran tourney. GRC was the home team as they were the #1 seed. Last night against the Host school Montgomery Co, thier fans sat on the visitors side, as it should have been. Both benches were on thier side and thier cheering section was behind THEIR bench.

They had the ROTC outside directing traffic...in the rain before and after the game.

Great Tourney and class act by the Montgomery Co staff.

As much as I love your posts, do we have to reference last year's region tournament in almost every single game thread?

Cards were in control from the beginning. Good lesson to learn adjusting to the whistles. For once this year in postseason they won't see familiar faces and need to adjust if they plan on hanging any banner.

  2. As expected Mustang you said it better than anyone else could.

While Mike Code has again done a masterful job of molding this year's Mustangs into a 15-10 ballclub, winning the 10th Region "A" again, and upsetting Newport Central Catholic, I think he would be slightly embarrassed to be named this year's KABC 10th Region Coach of the Year. Proud but slightly embarrassed. Mike Code will be the 10th Region's Class "A" Coach of the Year for the 6th time in his 7th year as head coach of the Mustangs. The winner of the 10th Region Tournament will be the overall "10th Region Coach of the Year."

Jamie Johnson has produced a 20-9 Deming team this year, but failed to win the 10th Region "A" this year, an achievement that might have garnered him more consideration in the balloting.

Aric Russell has done a masterful job of changing the style of the Camels to a more fan-popular version. His 17-9 mark is not that much greater than the 15-10 mark accomplished by his predecessor, and it is yet to be seen what the Camles do in the post-season. With the KABC voting taking place during the latter part of the regualr season, with the psot-season not considered, I think it would be a stretch for Aric to have been elected the 10th Region's KABC Coach of the Year.

Then there's Brad Carr at Scott, whose Eagles were supposed to be in a re-building mode. They are presently 16-9 overall and 5-1 in the Region, with that loss coming to Mason County early in the season. You can certainly make a case for Coach Carr, but Coach Humphry's Cardinals have done everything asked of them this season and are 24-5. On paper, the Cards lay over the 10th Region and Coach Humph certainly seems to the most likely, qualified, candidate for the award.

My personal feelings are that Coach Humphries is indeed the proper recipient this season.

  3. They wern't overlooking anyone...just a very emotinal night. We started the 5 seniors that do not start and got behind by double digets. Didn't play well second quarter, but did a much better job on the defensive end the second half. Which then sparked the offence.

Agree on Robbie, he is too unselfish. Wants to lead in assists. Very humble young man.

Sounds odd when the school's all time leading scorer is often too unselfish. Imagine how many he could have scored being selfish?

  4. I noticed some of that in the GRC game other night. Just figured it was due to the big game but maybe there is and undercurrent. In particular I noticed Pawsat and Setty in a timeout after Setty had made a bad play, they seemed a little heated. Again it was probaly just the intensity of the game. In general I don't think kids today are as tight as teammates as they used to be. I think where they play so much AAU ball, sometimes on different teams, and have different personal agendas that the teams don't have the chemistry of a few years ago. Also as someone else said the Mason kids have more than games going on right now. They are a quality program and will figure it out and be a tough out for anyone come tourney time.

I saw Rogers tell the referee when Gilbert went down, "thats my teammate". Maybe some of the fans should calm down and show the class he showed when his summer "teammate" was on the ground.

  5. A team that goes no smaller than 6'5 and you want them off your backs?

I have been watching GRC for the last five years and every year Lexington Catholic has beaten us with that same press. I think we have people this year that does a good job handling that press that we have never had before. As much as Bopper handles the ball, he has very few turnovers. He and Robbie does a fine job of keeping the ball in the center of the floor and beating the press. Any time you dribble to the side against that press, and stop, you're trapped. a loss ball. Vinny does a good job in the middle receiving the ball against the press.. You have to get the ball down the floor before you can score (good logic) I just wish that when they have a two on one that they would make a pass. Robbie did a good defensive job on Schuette. Catholic hit some luck shots banking in those threes also.

You can take up all you want for those officials but I think they were horrible. They made some horrible charge-block calls and Catholic was all over the backs of the Clark players on rebounds and no calls were made. I didn't like them at all. All of Clarks big men played well. A good win for the CARDS.
