  1. I agree..Sorta feel the same way about 2a...Not much competition in the east..
  2. Sounds like you're not too confident in Calloways defense...If they give up 38 to Lone Oak, I think they lose, similar to last week..I feel Lone Oak and Marshall are pretty equal in talent with a slight edge to the Flash..
  3. Anyone banking on Lex Catholic being down could be in for a rude awkening...I don't think they're at last years level, by any means, but, the teams who've beaten them, would also likely beat any other team in the state as well and likely just as bad...I think Boyle is definately improved over last year but I still think LCs the team to beat when 4a is all said and done...Lex Catholic 24 Boyle Co 14
  4. I really thought at the 1st of the year that Calloway Co would be solid, but, they've suffered through some injuries and really haven't been as good as I thought they would be...They've still got time to right the ship in district play, but, I'm having doubts they will...I can't put my finger on it, but, it seems like they're missing something to get them to that next level...I'll take Lone Oak in this one something like 35-24...
  5. If you could host a Bowl that featured 4 games with only in state teams and could get any state team to play in it, but, you couldn't play 2 teams in the same classifications, what would be your best 4 possible matchups....Let's hear it... Here's some that I think would be awesome.. Ft Campbell vs Central B.Green vs Boyle Co Bell Co vs Belfry Highlands vs Manual
  6. I would guess strength of schedule...They've played 6a #8 Graves, who's 4-0, 5a #10 Christian Co, who's 2-1 and 2a #1 Ft Campbell, who's 4-0... I would doubt very many of the 3a teams ranked below them, would fare any better against those 3 teams...
  7. Lone Oaks probably better this year than last overall...No, they don't have a Cory Robinson throwing for a kazillion yds and touchdowns, but, there offense is more balanced and there defense is better and alot of those kids got valuable experience last year in there run to state...Even so, Calloway Co and Hopkins Central are also good and will give the Purple Flash all they want in District 1, but, they do play both at home, so, I'd say they have a good chance of going 10-0 when alls said and done...
  8. How does the semi round shape up...Which region hosts the semi's this year and does anyone know if seeding plays a factor in who hosts that round...
  9. I agree...Boyle Co is just that good and this is likely one of GRCs best ever teams and they are a 6a team with a decided #s advantage...The Swestern win was a good one...This probably isn't the most talented Admiral team but, they'll be just fine when 2a play rolls around...Same with Mayfield...Graves Co and GRC are probably on equal grounds and Boyle Co and Ft Campbell are, as well, so, I wouldn't worry too much about either team when it comes to playing in there respective classes...I don't think there will be too many teams looking forward to playing either in the playoffs...
  10. 7 - Campbell Co 5 - Highlands 3 - Ryle 2 - Lloyd 1 - Holmes TB - Lloyd
  11. 7 - Monroe Co 5 - Russellville 3 - Lone Oak 2 - Warren East 1 - Hopkinsville TB - Lone Oak
  12. At the 1st of the year, I would have said LCA without hesitation, but, they've got some issues on the defensive side of the ball and I think Raceland can exploit that.. I also think the Rams defense will be able to somewhat slowdown LCAs high powered offense...I don't think they'll stop it, but, slow it down enough to outscore them...I like Raceland 34 LCA 27
  13. Trinity - St X Cov Cath - Beechwood Pad Tilghman - Mayfield Seneca - PRP Henderson Co - Christian Co LCA - Corbin N.Hardin - J.Hardin Perry Central - Whitley Co Green Co - Taylor Co Russellville - Glasgow
  14. 5 - Lex Catholic 3 - St Xavier 3 - Campbell Co 1 - Hazard 1 - Raceland 1 - Mad Central 1 - Hopkinsville 1 - Harlan Co 1 - Rockcastle Co 1 - Pulaski Co TB - 27
  15. The game with Graves was very even...Mayfield moved the ball well, but, had a couple of key turnovers that turned the game in Graves favor and the fake punt by Graves was a back breaker...I was actually surprised with the Cards defense...They played well most of the night, but, did give the Eagles a couple of big plays...I think Crittenden is a solid 1a team and they've played some good competition thus far and that will help them in this game...I think the Cards will come out on top but I don't think it'll be a blowout... Mayfield 26 Crittenden Co 14...
  16. You're correct...Broadcast airs at 7:28 cst...I really look for Mayfield to play well tonight...I imagine practices weren't much fun this week...Not sure they have enough to pull off a W against a solid Graves team, but, I do think it'll be a tough game either way...
  17. I tend to agree...The Panthers are an experienced team and a better offensive team than the Devils....I like Daviess Co in the one...28-14
  18. Gotcha...I wasn't aware it was a bowl game last year and thought it was a home and home and I knew they didn't play the year before...Wouldn't it have been a great matchup this year?
  19. I thought these 2 teams played each other this year...Did something happen with scheduling or was last year the last year of there contract? I would have really liked to have seen that matchup this year...
  20. I think it's stereotyping the whole city when comments like that are made...Sure, there's a degree of truth to it, but, it's being made out like it's so much worse in Mayfield then other places and thats far from the truth...Not every kid that plays at Mayfield is suffering from parenting problems, simply not true, and some of the attitudes on the team aren't always coming from these few kids that do have home issues...When you go to a Mfd game since Joes been the head coach, you see shirts not tucked in, showboating, unsportsmanlike penalties, etc, etc...Now, some blame may or may not come from home, but, many of these kids brothers, cousins, sons, also played at Mayfield and this wasn't an issue under previous regimes..So, did these guys families all of sudden take a turn for the worse...Not likely...
  21. Agreed Westsider, but, it's no different in Mayfield than it is anywhere else...That was my point...
  22. TP, I agree about the effect Graves school system has had on the football program, but, at the same time, that's why they have classifications, so, it's not like they're playing for a championship against teams with a superior size advantage...What I totally disagree with is the comment about kids home lives and parents not providing these kids with the neccessary repect/discipline...Where someone lives has little bearing on parenting, imo...Mayfield parents living within the city limits are no different than anywhere else..I know what you meant by the comment, but, this isn't an issue with just Mayfield and other towns with similar circumstances don't seem to have the issues they do at Mayfield...Again, that's why I think it's in the coaching, moreso than anything else...
  23. 7-Boone Co 5-Cov Catholic 3-Dayton 2-Ryle 1-W.Verona tb-Cov Cath
  24. 7 - Mercer Co 5 - Western Hills 3 - Anderson Co 2 - GRC 1 - Woodford Co TB-Anderson Co
  25. Coaching...I like Joe as a person and he knows football, but, he doesn't relate to the players well at all and doesn't seem to demand the discipline like his dad did or moreso, Leahy did...I've said it before, I can't imagine players doing the show boating, taking plays off or playing without the pride a program like that merits under Jack or Paul...I will also say, his assistants aren't at the level of past Cardinal coaching staffs and that may have something to do with it as well...The technique just isn't at the level of past teams, both blocking and tackling and pursuing the ball, as a unit...In there defense, they have changed there offensive look 100% from what worked for years and years...They pass the ball alot more, run alot of shotgun and 4 and 5 wides and 1 back and empty back sets and these kids grew up playing the old style and it'll take them awhile to adjust to it...It's alot more open and fun to watch, but, I believe there's still a place for the 4 and 5 yd plays and a cloud of dust, so to speak and it seems at times, the kids are lost on what they're supposed to do or where they're supposed to be. Maybe, they're being too complex and should simplify things and let there athleticism win for them...There's also alot of kids roaming the halls that are very good athletes that for whatever reason, aren't playing...That would have never happened 10-20 years ago...I think all these factors come down to one thing, coaching. I'll probaly get bashed for this assessment, but, that's what I think the problem is...
