  1. Changing direction here.

In discussing the game with friends (half T & half X) pretty much all agreed that X played well in the first half and it felt like they should be within a score of T. But somehow the Rocks put up 35. X basically did not capitalize on having better field position, gave up a couple of big plays (though they scored on 2 big plays themselves) and - most importantly - were not able to keep T from getting the ball back in the final minute of the half which resulted in another T TD. That game really could have been 28-21 or even 21-21 at the half. And X outscored T 7-3 in the second half (though T ran out the clock in X's red zone.)

Just a little more Food for Thought.

  2. Big agree with Jimmyref.

T did OK this fall too, 1st in FB, 2nd in CC, 3rd in golf, and soccer got knocked out by eventual state champ (X). Last year T ended X's season in all five of the biggest team sports (football, soccer, basketball, baseball, lacrosse). Top to bottom who has the better athletic program? Don't know, don't care. They both do what they do very well. Football is probably too high profile in the grand scheme of things. T & X will be neck and neck next year in cross country, but it won't generate pages upon pages on BGP or multiple articles in the C-J.

  3. Top 8 or 9 is stretching it a bit:

Top 9 teams on T's schedule:

    #190 Warren Central (Indianapolis, IN)

    #205 St. Xavier (Louisville, KY)

    #205 St. Xavier (Louisville, KY)

    #485 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH)

    #544 Champagnat Catholic (Hialeah, FL)

    #577 Carmel (IN)

    #975 Male (Louisville, KY)

    #1095 Kenton [simon] (Independence, KY)

    #2268 Campbell County (Alexandria, KY)

    Top 4 on CovCath's schedule:

#723 St. Francis de Sales (Columbus, OH)

#1153 South Warren (Bowling Green, KY)

    #1198 Beechwood (Fort Mitchell, KY)

    #1345 Bishop Chatard (Indianapolis, IN)

Whoa... I meant the top 8 or 9 on their combined schedules... as in the top five for T & the top 4 for X. That holds pretty true.

  4. From the Food for Thought Dept...

Glaser was 7-14 against Beatty including a stretch where he won six of 10. He lost 6 in a row and was forced out. Wolford is 1-8 including a the current 7-game losing streak. Not to mention many folks think that X wins in 2013 with Charles Walker under Glaser's system. This issue is not Moore, Quick, Brohm, Anderson, Finch, or any other star player. Whiners only whine when they lose. T fans are content with the effort their players and coaches are putting forth. I am guessing next year if Anthony Palombino catches a couple of TDs against X the question will arise as to why he transferred to T his sophomore year. If X were to win then it won't come up.

  5. Nothing wrong with transferring for any reason. But when it’s two very good players from across the river it’s not exactly a mystery as to why they transferred, the question in all transfers is how the kid(s) got there?

Beatty and Coverdale are very good at what they do and when they’re getting the top players in the area then everyone is basically playing for 2nd. I guess all the other players will just have “work harder” this offseason and all coaches will have to be “more dedicated” to knock of T...insert eye roll.

Agreed. Except for the " ", and the " ".

  6. Without Moore or Bohn CCH could stay close, with Moore & Bohn T is 15-20 pts better. (To be fair, I did not see CCH live this season, only some tape). The issue is that T's defensive front 7 are just so good, and their O-line really came together late in the season. T beat Moeller & Warren Central & X played Cincy X to within 2 points. CCH did not play anyone as good as the top 8 or 9 teams on T or X's schedules.

  7. I said "each side" so I am clearly not bitter about T beating X. I did not care who won. I was simply asking how many players impacted the game that were not from Kentucky.

I clearly said it made supporters bitter and since you are not a supporter, obviously I was not calling you bitter. Usually each team has a couple of players from Indiana. When one of them happens to be very good (and they play for your rival who is in the process of beating you most of the time), then the fingers get pointed. X was fine in the 90's with T's QB from Lanesville as X was winning back then. The problem is the current X staff can't figure out coach Beatty. T is a step ahead. T has not had Moore (or Quick, or Brohm) every year for the past 18.

  8. So forget about Rondale Moore. Let's say your kid's name is Joe Schmoe. You move to Louisville (or you live in southern Indiana, Bullitt Co., Oldham Co., whatever). You shadow T & and any number of other schools. T makes you feel at home. You like it. You feel like you fit in. You don't feel like you are being judged or looked down at. And, oh, by the way, you are a very good football player and want to be the best you an be. Where would you go? Duh.

  9. Is the rumor true of another transfer next year? Hearing kid from Frankfort area. If so, and this becomes common theme. I'm not sure anybody beats Trinity anymore from Kentucky. Coaching and players too good. X not indicting they will change to compete.

Hard to even consider it a rivalry.

Huh? Didn't they change coaches? Problem is even when the Tigers have had impact players like Anderson and Finch T has still found ways to win. Granted the Rocks had a tougher time with the previous coach, but it is what it is.

  10. I'm a Louisville person and I like the idea of Lexington being the home for years to come; makes the most sense for the Commonwealth.

As for tomorrow's game, with the perfect weather I would think a pretty good number of folks for around the Lexington area would go. T/X will give you your money's worth, no doubt. That should REALLY be fun to watch (certainly better for the Lexington folks than the game that was there last Saturday :sssh:)

  11. Food for thought: Per Calpreps/Freeman 1000, X is the toughest team T has played this year. They are ranked higher than Moeller, Warren Central and Champagnat.

Also, only per that same list top teams in KY regardless of class are:

    1. Trinity (50)

    2. CovCath (135)

    3. St. X (177)

    4. Danville (396)

    5. Scott Co. (418)

    6. Boyle Co. (481)

    7. Male (948)

Kentucky only has 7 in the top 1000

  12. If not Brohm v Bush then...

    Trinity vs X 2007

X is undefeated and playing for it's first undefeated season under Mike Glaser (I'm still amazed that he never had an undefeated season but I digress). X had beaten Trinity 24-15 in the regular season game (Glaser held an umbrella at mid field after the game) and came in favored in this contest. X gets a TD on a fake field goal to go up 28-21 at half. The second half is a defensive struggle with no score until Trinity with QB Will Stein mounts a drive and scores with :32 left in the game to tie and force OT. Trinity wins the toss and opts for D first. For some inexplicable reason X passes on first down and the ball is intercepted by Donovan Sims. On 1st down Trinity RB Tim Phillips ran hard and picked up nine yards but was denied the end zone. Next play LB Wes Weitlauf lines up at FB and with everyone expecting him to lead block for Philips he instead takes the hand off and dives over for the winning TD. Great game.

My memory could be going, but I thought Weitlauf REPLACED Phillips after that 9-yd gain. I think everyone expected Weitlauf to get the call.
