  1. This was a tough one for Henry Clay. Having to play their first district game against a team who has won nearly 20 games, including a defeat of Henry Clay to open the season, proved to be too much. These kids are very familar with one another and some of them started their career at Henry Clay before Frederick Douglass opened its doors. To say the Frederick Douglass kids were not afraid or in awe of the Blue Devils would be an understandment. Douglass had lost 5 of their last 7 games coming into the tournament, but they defeated Sayre on Monday night and rode the momentum from that into the Henry Clay game last night. The Blue Devils had won 18 games in a row coming into this game, but couldn't quite get to a school record of 19 straight wins. You know.....this is why I love this time of year of tournament basketball. Davey can slay Goliath (not quite that big an upset in this case). This is one of the reasons why the state of Kentucky has the greatest high school tournament in the country. 200+ schools starting the tournament with a clean slate and, at least a chance of winning it all. One winner. It is the way it should be. I am sad, but happy for this treasure the state of Kentucky has in its high school basketball.
  2. Not knowing the final score, I was going to make a prediction. I would have missed the margin of victory by 14 points, AND I picked the wrong team. Wow, Marion County! Peaking at the right time?
  3. The Blue Devils are on a roll. Big game on Tuesday night at Scott County versus the Sayre/Frederick Douglass winner. Stay humble, stay hot Henry Clay!
  4. Upset win for the Lafayette Generals. Big Ray Surratt is lighting up the scoreboard right now. Large presence inside and can accurately shoot the three.
  5. Nice district win at home for Henry Clay. Scott County kept playing hard and whittling away at Henry Clay's lead, but the Blue Devils held them off in the end. A great night at the Elmer T. Gilb Student Center/Al Prewitt Gymnasium. The Henry Clay state of Kentucky soccer championship team was recognized. The National Anthem was performed by Gregory Turay...a world renowed American tenor and Metropolitan Opera performer. After watching Chaka Khan absolutely butcher our country's Anthem at the NBA All-star game on Sunday, it was refreshing to hear the great talent of Gregory Turay. And, of course, seeing the Blue Devils win their 16th in a row.
  6. I like seeing Henry Clay in the top ten. I actually think they should be a little higher because I see teams above them who they would beat, but this is a pretty good spot to be at this point in the season. Go Devils!
  7. Brad White contract.pdf Eddie Gran contract.pdf Both are approaching $1 million per season. Brad White just received a big pay hike.
  8. $1.5 for a non-coordinator? I think that is pushing the limits into a new dimension, but who knows?
  9. Dunbar with a little surprise here in Lexington. They will travel to Henry Clay on Thursday night.
  10. Tomcats remain undefeated! A very nice season for Paul Blazer High School.
  11. Henry Clay has a statement win against a very athletic and young Ballard Bruin team. Chris Renner's team is very impressive and he is set for a few more years in Region 7 with this talented bunch of players. The Blue Devils have run off 13 in a row and deserve a little more respect around the state, but that's alright. They will be a tough out in March when all games are sudden death. The Northern Kentucky signee Marquez Warrick goes for 33 points in an upset against then #2 John Hardin and 35 points tonight in an upset over Ballard. A pretty nice three day run. I really think Darrin Horn is really going to like this kid up in Highland Heights. A great basketball player and a fine young man.
  12. It is always easy to take shots at someone else's time and hard work they put in to come up with the BGPrep poll each week. I usually try to refrain from negatively commenting, but..... This poll is WAY off on the Henry Clay Blue Devils. They are deserving of at least a top 10 rating. I personally think they are a top 5 team. They host #3 ranked Ballard in about 2 hours, so that result will certainly tell you more. I think they beat Ballard tonight, and then Dunbar, Woodford County, and Belfry to round out the week. At 22-5 with two of those losses coming out of state in North Carolina, where does the BGPreps poll put them next week?
  13. The results might be reversed in a rematch between these two fine teams. But.....it might not. That is why they play the game. I will say it was a tougher spot for John Hardin since they played a tough game at Bowling Green High School on Friday night. They traveled from E'town to Bowling Green and back home on Friday, then traveled to Lexington for a late afternoon game against Henry Clay. These are young kids, but that's still a lot of time on a bus. If there was to be a rematch, John Hardin would need to come up with a plan to stop Marquez Warrick who kind of dominated the game. Every time the Blue Devils needed a bucket, "Quez" got it for them. I thought he was the best player on the floor and there were some good ones on both teams. Henry Clay is far from a one man team, but if Marquez ran wild again, I would like the Blue Devils in a rematch.
  14. Henry Clay is playing very well now. They defeated a very good John Hardin team who came into this game having won 60 of their last 62 games. Marquez Warrick is a very special player. I do not know how many he had versus John Hardin (30+ is my guess), but he is an adept player with either hand and nearly impossible to defend. 12 in a row for the Blue Devils.
  15. I have given up trying. I have attempted to use a picture in my photos of my iPhone and it ALWAYS comes back as....."the file(s) uploaded were too large to process". It's a little thumbnail picture. Frustrating!!!!!!
  16. Lexington is at $1.99 per gallon in multiple locations.
  17. Big win for the Knights. I am not surprised at who won, but a little by how many. I thought it would be tighter than this final. Lexington Catholic is on a roll.
  18. Nice win for the Pioneers! The game was not really as close as the final score. Scott County made a furious comeback, but came up short. Simon Kenton was in control most of the game led by a great performance from junior Kelly Niece. He is a nice player.
  19. Coach Gay has certainly passed the loyalty check and is deserving of this position. Congratulations Coach Gay! Go Devils!
