  1. You make some very good points so I'm quoting your post in it's entirety. The problem would be, using your examples of Jefferson and Oldham counties, that if all districts had an open enrollment policy complete with reciprocal agreements there exists the possibilities that one district would so completely overwhelm the other that the second would cease to exist. At first glance, one could say fine, if they can't compete, let 'em close the doors. But the public school systems were set up to allow every child an education. Not every family has the means (or even the will) to transport their child daily across county lines. The loss of revenue would put such a burden on a local system that they could no longer operate to educate those left behind. What if we all just attended private schools? Could you come up with enough scholarships and work study programs to handle the masses? What if we allow their funds to come with them? With federal and state money comes federal and state rules including separation of church and state. See? I don't have the answer. But I know it's not equal. And as for these "watered down" state titles I keep reading about, is not your state title already water down when your opponent must play with one hand tied behind his back?
  2. I agree wholeheartily, but therein lies the problem and why I believe there is no solution other than separation. By limiting the privates to a specific area, we would be going against the very fabric of what a religious school is all about, the opportunity for a student to recieve religion based education strutured around what the parents believe is a proper enviroment. I can in no way argue against the benefits nor suggest they be changed simply for athletic equality. However, since we are speaking of athletic equality in this thread, I see no way a public school, limited by boundaries enforced by either federal, state, or local rules, can adequately compete. In my opinion, this would be the equivalent of having a NFL team in Helena, Montana that is limited to drafting on in-state players while the rest of the league continues to draft nationwide, including the state of Montana. I guess the Helena Unibombers should just stop whining and work harder.
  3. Good article. My thought would be that with the difference in curriculum offered by each school, picking one purely for athletic reasons could be quite a sacrifice as far as career goals are concerned. In a two-high school district such as Knox where both Knox Central and Lynn Camp offer basically the same courses, there would be few reasons to choose based on accademics. Therefore, the whole open enrollment deal is entirely foreign. Thus, theoreticly, both schools enrollement is limited to only those who live within their boundaries.
  4. I like that. It appears that they have various high schools offering specific courses with the students allowed to pick what would be most suitable. However, for the sake of this thread, it is still in-district restricted.
  5. How does the Jefferson County open enrollment work? Does that mean they are allowed to transfer freely within the district or does it include outside the district as well?
  6. Darn! I hadn't noticed the post dates until I read this. I was about to say "welcome back" to 3Wishes.
  7. Would you say that being arrogant or being classless would be the most important prerequisite to being allowed in your D-1? Look, the school I support is 3A. I really don't care if they boot the privates out or keep them in. I do strongly object to the statement that I read over and over in these threads: "If you don't like it, you should work harder". It is my observation that a majority of teams across the state work very hard as do their parents and boosters and (in many cases) their administrations. I will not argue the merits of a private education vs. a public school enviroment, I wish all had this option. I will say that if you want to argue athletic superiority, go ahead, but do not be so blind as to think that it is soley due to work ethics.
  8. May I suggest that in the future when one of our members is out of line, instead of suspension they should be required to read every post in a public vs private thread. I can't think of a more severe punishment. If someone actually changes their original opinion due to something they read here, wake me up.
  9. OK, I've been using up what little brain power I have remaining. How is that pronounced?
  10. Knox Central, Trinity and St.X? Don't believe I've ever seen that affiliation before. Anyway, another KC fan is always welcome. Try to watch out for the big 3 (AKA 'The Minions')
  11. A partial NAIA scholarship seems to be fairly easy to obtain. Would you agree?
  12. I like it. Just one more way to set this site apart from the others.
