Caldwell has three kickers who are also on the soccer team — Chris Logsdon, Conner McEnaney and Boyce Nichols.

Caldwell won 53-13 in 1957. And since this is the 57th year since Caldwell scored 53 points in ’57, I think Caldwell scores in the 50s again. Math!

It would behoove Caldwell to get off to a good start. If Caldwell can get up 14-0 relatively quickly, then Murray's clock-controlling won't have the same impact. However, if Murray gets out to a lead, then it can use its ground game to chew up the clock. That keeps Caldwell's offense on the sideline and is basically demoralizing for a team that wants to play quick like Caldwell. I think some are selling Caldwell's defense short based on where it was early in the season. I'm not saying they're the Steel Curtain, but they have gotten better. A lot of the yardage/points people point at were actually given up by reserves. Against Ballard Memorial, Caldwell's starters allowed zero yards in the first half. Green County was basically shut down in the second half. I know Ballard and Green aren't Murray, and I don't expect Caldwell's D to shut down Murray, but Caldwell should be good enough to make some stops. I'm taking Caldwell 41-27, but I could really see this game going in a lot of different directions, from defensive struggle to shootout.

Caldwell and Green both needed games and had the same open date. Really just as simple as that. And you're right, it is a pretty good haul! Worked out great last year because the Caldwell folks were able to swing by Campbellsville and go to Druther's before the game! (It's a Caldwell thing.) In 2015 and 2016 Caldwell County will play North Hardin, which is another good trip. And Caldwell is still one game short for the next two years. I'm scared to guess where that might end up. :lol2:

Looks like Green County is running the wishbone now. The Dragons will need some time-consuming drives and will need to create some turnovers on defense to have a shot at Caldwell. Safe trip to the team and fans coming to Princeton. Be sure to hit Pagliai's before the game! And you might need to break out the warm weather gear this week. The September 1938 game was actually in Princeton. Then later the team went to Florida. It was actually considered an "educational" trip, along with playing football. There were many years that Princeton Butler High School didn't start basketball until January because the football season ran so long. A different era, for sure.

Caldwell was almost on pace for eleventy billion before pulling its starters.

First half offense tonight: Caldwell County — 16 first downs, 437 yards. Ballard Memorial — 2 first downs, zero yards. Pretty good defensive performance by Caldwell.

Princeton's fixation with football is pretty fascinating because, like many places, the teams have gone through many down periods. However, I think the love for football goes all the way back to 1911. Princeton was always proud of its high schools, first Princeton High School and then Princeton Butler High School, and football was the first high school sport here. Princeton's first game ever was at Madisonville, which had had a team for several years and was expected to rout Princeton. But Madisonville only won 14-7. Madisonville school officials even wrote a letter that appeared in the Princeton newspaper that basically said you should be proud of your team, they fought like tigers! (Teams here have been the Tigers ever since.) The community just rallied around the football program and continues to do so, especially when the team shows some promise. Really, for a small community, Princeton/Caldwell County supports all of its local teams. But football was first. It was first to have some success (6-0-0 in 1915) and has since added 2 state championships (1963 and 1998). It was a real big deal for Princeton to have success back in the day against places like Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Paducah, Owensboro, etc. I think that initial success really sets a tone in a small community. If it had been in basketball, then Princeton would probably be a big basketball town. So when other sports complain about not getting as much support as the local football team, I tell them to blame 1911! :lol2:

They battled their butts off when Caldwell played up there two years ago and then got their state championship last year. I feel bad we didn't get a Caldwell-DeSales rematch last year. I don't see this game being competitive at all. Ballard hasn't played anyone that will prepare them for Caldwell's offense. And Caldwell's defense has gotten off to solid starts the last two weeks. It's when they start subbing on D that other teams start piling up yardage. Caldwell can name it's score again this week. And again next week against Green County. I agree with everyone that says first test will be at Murray. People talk about the weather killing Caldwell in the playoffs last year (and it certainly didn't help Caldwell) but the thing Murray did in that game was control the clock on offense and make tackles on defense. Funny how the game always comes back to blocking and tackling. Murray did both well last year, especially in that playoff game.

Agreed! I thought Caldwell played lousy all 3 weeks in the playoffs last year. The Tigers just got away with it against Hancock and Union. I'm not sure what the solution is on the schedule thing. When the schedule was put together it looked a lot more competitive. So either Caldwell is just that good, or a lot of teams are down ... or both! Adding Christian County and Fort Campbell two years ago looked like a definite step up at the time. I'm also just fine with Caldwell being ranked No. 2. There was a lot of pressure last year that came with that No. 1 ranking all season.

This is a bigger rivalry game than most people realize! And it becomes a district game again next year! However, I don't think Trigg has enough weapons to keep up with Caldwell this time around. Caldwell 70-35.

Ohio County is running more of a spread attack this year, which may well pay dividends down the road but really hurt them tonight. There were several series early in the game where Ohio went 3-and-out and took maybe 20 seconds off the clock. That just played into Caldwell's hands, giving Caldwell the ball back quickly and usually with really good field position. Caldwell set a school record for points in a quarter by leading 44-12 after 12 minutes. Caldwell's offensive starters were taken out very early in the second quarter but it was still 65-12 at halftime.

Since no one voted from Madisonville or Hopkinsville, I can only assume those cities no longer have daily newspapers. :idunno: Any AP outlet in the state may vote. Apparently many just don't want to.

With global warming you just never know. Could be 80 degrees throughout the playoffs this year. :thumb:

A lot of daily newspapers have cut staff, especially in sports, and moved deadlines up to the point they can barely get ballgames in the next day's edition. It might surprise people how many stories get dumped into the newspaper without anyone ever checking them, especially sports, because it's sometimes a race just to get something, anything(!), in the paper by deadline. It's all about the bottom line ($$$$$) and it's probably not going to get any better.

The final score of this game should be whatever Caldwell wants it to be. Ohio may be the weakest team the Tigers see all season. That said, it looks like Ohio is playing a lot of young kids, so maybe they can build for the next couple of years.

Caldwell's defense shut out Union in the second half and held the Braves to about 60 yards after halftime. And virtually all of that yardage was on one drive. I'll admit the Tigers aren't the Steel Curtain, but they do have some potential on defense. Not only that, but because the offense usually scores in 3-4 plays, the Caldwell defense doesn't get much of a break. Caldwell's first-string offense possessed the ball for all of 7 minutes and ran just 26 plays against Union. That was still enough to put up over 400 yards of offense and 62 points, but the defense hardly had a chance to catch its breath on the sideline. Teams that run the System aren't usually going to have shut-down defenses. But I do think Caldwell's defense will get better as the season progresses.

I'm afraid the Caldwell defense is going to be a work in progress. But in fairness, Christian County was a tough opener for Caldwell because of the Colonels' quickness. It will be interesting to see how the Caldwell defense fares the next 4-5 weeks.

I think Caldwell County's offense should be No. 1. :lol2:
