Trigg County vs. Caldwell County = Rivalry game

With only six seniors this season, this was going to be sort of a bridge year for Caldwell County. Some people were thinking 5-5 over the summer. But if Caldwell can get Murray, 8-2 is likely. Even with a loss to Murray, 7-3 is still a pretty good showing (if the Tigers can beat Fort Campbell and Trigg County, and I think they will). Some help is on the way for Caldwell though. The eighth grade team went 10-1 and the seventh grade team was 8-1. That doesn't necessarily always translate to wins on the varsity level, but there are some kids with a lot of potential on those teams.And Caldwell returns a ton of starters next year.

My prediction: Caldwell County 35, Crittenden County 14.

Caldwell County is 418-285-11 since consolidation in 1954. I'm not sure if Princeton Butler High School and Princeton High School records before that can be included going back to 1911, but that would push Caldwell well past 500. Also of note, of the 714 games played by Caldwell County, I have been at the last 378.

Caldwell County leads the all-time series with Crittenden County 41-10 and has won the last nine.

Somebody alert Druther's that Crittenden County fans are on their way! :lol2: Caldwell County filled that place up several years ago on the way to Green County.

Joby Jaggers' 394 yards passing at Fort Campbell were his most ever and the fourth-most ever for a Caldwell County quarterback.

Union County dominated the first half, forcing four Caldwell turnovers, and led 14-7 at halftime. Caldwell held Union to just 12 total yards in the second half. Meanwhile, the Caldwell offense scored touchdowns on its first five possessions after the break. Joby Jaggers threw six touchdown passes — three each to Oliver Parker and Travis Newsom — and even completed a 10-yard pass to himself while throwing for 225 yards.

Caldwell has really played well the last three weeks. Those losses to Christian County and Hopkinsville earlier don't really look good, but the Tigers were committing a lot of turnovers and a lot of penalties in those games. Caldwell has really cleaned that up the last 2-3 weeks. No turnovers against Tilghman and just three penalties. And just a few dropped passes early. It was a pretty clean game for the Tigers.

To me, the turning point in the game was Caldwell's defense making a big stop on 4th-and-1 ... and then making an even bigger stop on 5th-and-inches in the fourth quarter. That was followed by a 78-yard touchdown pass to Jameer Riley, which put Caldwell up 26-13. Riley caught 3 passes for 151 yards — all 3 went for touchdowns. People seriously need to start recruiting that guy!

Caldwell County made five trips into the red zone that it got zero points out of. Caldwell had 4 turnovers, Hopkinsville had 1 turnover. Hoptown had 485 total yards, 329 on the ground. Caldwell had 428 yards, 296 in the air.

Big Stat: Graves 5 turnovers Caldwell 1 turnover Yardage was pretty even, 348 for Caldwell and 342 for Graves.

Not a big deal, but I can't get it to accept negative receiving yardage. It changes it to zero and that means I end up with different numbers (but still close) for passing and receiving. Anyone else run into that? It does take negative rushing yardage, but not negative receiving yards.

I'll vote for seeding right after classification ... if we are going to start following the lead of other states might as well do it right.

Several players quit basketball to concentrate on softball. Three softball players didn't come back, one soccer player didn't come back and another player moved to Clarksville. Caldwell County is down to one senior and one junior.

Also to note for Caldwell County, Trel Riley plays football but no longer plays basketball. However, keep an eye on sophomore guard Adarius Riley.

Several Caldwell County players, including Mashea Glover, did not come back this season. Just 11 players on the Caldwell roster to open the year.

I think you may have confused your Rileys at Caldwell County (probably not the first time that's ever happened :lol2:). Javonte Riley was hurt most of last season and did not play. Jameer Riley averaged over 13 points and 5 rebounds a game last year and returns as a junior this season.

If Paducah Tilghman can keep from turning the ball over, the Blue Tornado will make a lot of Elizabethtown folks very uncomfortable Friday night. Tilghman is probably the most physical football team I've seen this year. But they have trouble hanging on to the ball sometimes.

I am a young fan (:lol2::lol2::lol2:) and I don't see anything wrong with Caldwell County playing Mayfield whatsoever. I look at it as a bowl game before the playoffs. It used to be a lot more important when the two teams were in the same district, but now it's just a fun game at the end of the season. Most of today's players have no idea that Mayfield used to keep Caldwell out of the playoffs every year 20 or 30 years ago. Caldwell usually doesn't look as good against Mayfield as it does against other teams because Mayfield is usually a lot better than those other teams Caldwell plays. It's not like the Tigers just decide to play like crap that week. As for the injury thing, Caldwell lost one of its starting corners for the season due to an injury in the Trigg County game a few weeks ago. Should the Tigers stop playing Trigg because someone got hurt one time? As a Caldwell fan, sure I'd like to see the Tigers beat the Cardinals every year. But that's just not going to happen. It's still a big game, typically draws a big crowd at both venues, and has virtually no bearing on the playoffs whatsoever. I bet Caldwell does just fine this week against Hart County. Some of Caldwell's most memorable wins ever have come against Mayfield. We wouldn't have that if the Tigers played (insert weak team here) instead. So I'm all for the Caldwell-Mayfield game!

If classification is such a difficult proposal, how do 48 other states manage to pull it off? The KHSAA is systematically killing off sports at a lot of small schools. It's not because those schools can't compete for state championship "trophies," it's because many of them can't even compete on the district level. Classes would at least give them some hope of being able to compete a little bit.

Going into the season, I thought 7-3 was about the best Caldwell County could hope for this season after having to replace its entire offensive line and unexpectedly having to break in a new quarterback. The Tigers went 8-2 and lost to 10-0 Christian County and 9-1 Mayfield. The Cardinals were the best team Caldwell has faced this season. I think Mayfield's overall speed was just too much for the Tigers to cope with. And, Caldwell missed some opportunities early with good field position that maybe could have made a game of it, but the Cardinals this year are a bad matchup for the Tigers (and for a lot of teams for that matter). However, I think Caldwell may have found some things in the run game that may pay dividends later on in the playoffs. Not sure I understand some Caldwell fans who want to run up the white flag after one loss. Mayfield popped the Tigers 48-7 in 2012 and Caldwell came back to go to the state championship game.
