With a new coach and the teams best player likely not returning I would say Grant will be mediocre at best. They will when some games because of the improvements they made with Hicks as coach but I feel that improvement will soon decline.
Grant will need to get some scoring from players other than Hicks and Cummins. Both of these players don't need to settle for outside jumpers but attack the rim and mix it up. Saylor has to keep his head and not want to get in chest bumping matches, Adkins has to be a defender first and Grant will be alright. Good luck to the Braves PLAYERS!!!!

Why does every thread go to Carr staying or leaving? GC has a TEAM without him...
I guess it tends to go there because Carr was GC's best player...GC does have a team without him, but it is a much different team.

I know more about Utter through the past few years. Not too many people would have stayed coaching in his situation. I want to throw this out there too. I don't post a lot on here but this is the gospel.... It's about the kids and I always see people make post that make it about the adults. At the end of the day it's about the players and that's it, so Maybe we could focus on them for a while.
-
That's a shame. Their pride just hurts the kids. I hope Grammer finds the guys to help him. Maybe that's why they hired someone with NKY ties.
Your comments about Pride are unwarranted... and you obviously DON'T know these guys. Sad you had to go there.

"A Bit?" You used the word "Chaos" to describe the school. He is more of a pompous idiot than Grant County High School is a Chaotic school.
Mr. Carr is no different than any of the other parents. He wants what is best for his child and he wants to WIN "PERIOD" No matter what it takes. Can't blame the guy for that. I'm not sure what he has done in the past three years (since his son has played at GCHS) that would qualify someone to call him a pompous idiot. He put in more time with fundraisers and helping the program at GCHS than any other parent the last three years and that is a fact. Does he have flaws, sure, we all do. :thumb:

I know of 3 people who have applied-Kevin Reinhardt (Former Nicholas County head coach), Chris Stapleton (Mason County Freshmen Coach) and Dustin Plunkett (Grant County JV Coach). I know there are a lot more applications, these are the people that I have confirmed with.

I know it's been mentioned that the job opening has been posted on the school's website, but I noticed it's not been put on the KHSAA site yet. Is that odd? Or is there another source that usually provides the openings around the state?
I would think it should be listed on the KHSAA site. The only reason that I would think they wouldn't, could possibly be if they already have someone in mind and have talked to that person about the ins-&-outs of the position. It is odd.

At this point I have not heard any names. I am sure that some are interested but who knows who.......?
-
Lets be honest...Basketball is not high on the priority list at G.C.

Coach hicks and his saff do a nice job.

Now you've exposed yourself on where you went to school' date=' 8 teams in the tourney, I said they would drill 6 of them, we all know South upset them, that only leaves one unless they scrimmage their jv. Lol[/quote']
Funny. This is almost 100 post on here..... Yay

Why don't you change it and bash Walton or the Walton fans' date=' my mistake You folks never bash Walton coaches, players or fans. God Bless[/quote']
You can take a look at my previous post and see that I haven't. I have actually taken up for other coaches and have been supportive of other programs. But the bashing has brought you some sort of satisfaction so maybe I will try it. :thumb:

And again you miss my point also' date=' who cares who lets roll is, who cares who you are, I mean its not like their having a showdown at the O K Corral. LOL[/quote']
I haven't missed your point. Having an understanding of who both of you are really gives me great pleasure in knowing that your opinions are foolish and selfish. I think when I start to be called out on here I will change my screen name and make all new post about G.C.

Too bad your opinions are wrong.

We are all still waiting on you to tell us what you are talking about when you say, "Hicks played favorites."

Is there any truth about Anglin quitting the team last year late in the year because of the way he was being treated' date=' if he did quit seems odd that Hicks would let him come back this year if he quit for no reason. People say he was one of the hardest working kids on the floor, but got harsh treatment for the same mistakes that were overlooked if made by one other player. Hmm.[/quote']
I understand that some people think Anglin quit because of that. The fact is there were some other issues that were going on behind the scene that caused him to quit. (Issues not basketball related). Hicks, in all reality treated Anglin well talking to him and allowing him to come back with no questions asked. Anglin is a great kid and the hardest working kid I have ever seen. However he did make a mistake by quitting and then showed maturity by going to Hicks and asking to return for his senior year. I wanted to clear the air on that. The only people who thinks Hicks plays (played) favorites are those who quit because they were not good enough to cut it. It's easier to tell mom and dad that coach is mean and unfair then to man up and say, well I'm just not good enough.
-
Khalid,
Man you got me beat I only got to watch them play like 10 times, what a shame.
I never said he played favorites this year in my previous post did I? But do I think he played favorites this nope sure do not. These are his kids he has had since he got to Grant. Coach Hicks built his program around them (well at least the ones that didnt quit or leave).
Before I go any farther into this I want to know If I am the only one in this conversation that believes that Coach Hicks has played favorites???
I have connected the dots now. I see were this is coming from. Move on!!!!!!!!!!
-
Saw a couple tapes and one video' date=' no one on that team was close to Anglin [b']as a defender[/b], he disrupted Simons guards and without him against Oldam they might have got beat 25.
I agree!
-
I watched this team play about eighteen times this year and I can't figure out what you are getting at. What do you mean by playing favorites? At first I thought you were implying that Aaron Hicks and Coach Hicks were related, but I do not think that is what you were claiming. Now I think you're saying that Tyler Carr has too much freedom, but that also makes no sense. Be specific please. What favoritism exists in this program? Don't wimp out, please be specific.
I agree 100% khalid. I would love to have some examples on what favoritism is being showed. I too have watched a lot of games (all of them) and I have not witnessed Hicks treat any player different than any other.

Is it safe to assume that the Braves will be ranked #1 in the region to start the 2013-2014 season? Most of the other top teams get hit hard by graduation...
I think that this would be safe to assume... but who knows.
-
Exactly they wouldn't have a chance and no one on that team could guard Jones or Pluckett. I know Anglin plays great D but he has never guarded that type of talent.

Go SK. This Grant County fan is cheering for you now!
-
If you are saying this is the best team in Braves history, I think you need a history leason.
That's not what I'm saying at all. I have not commented on that thought. I'm commenting on other things. I don't need a history lesson, trust me. I know plenty 123go

I didn't mean any disrespect to Coach Hicks or this years team. I just think some people have tried to make it sound like Grant Co was horrible and in shambles when Hicks got there. It wasn't that bad! He has done a good job and I don't want to take from that. The 08-09 team was pretty good!
100% did not take it with disrespect. I was commenting about others. I agree with you and understand what your saying. It was not in shambles.

So you're saying the new coach is not good and they will only win because of Hicks? Sounds like you may be one of the few who liked him. Saw them this summer and they didn't have a full squad and looked to be very good. I think they just might surprise you! Good luck coach Grammer and the Braves.
I never said the new coach was "not good," but since you mentioned it... I will not be surprised if Grant does well, only if the new coach does as good a job as previous coaches. That will take a couple years to see. Time will tell!!!
I forgot to mention Austin Johnson. Very good p.g. thinking pass first and shoot second. Also the best on the ball defender Grant has, possibly the 8th region has pound for pound inch for inch.
