  1. If I wanted to slam someone then I would have. Seniors taking bad shots and forcing things I think would warrant a timeout. Stamm is a coach who is always smiling ear to ear as well as very vocal and clapping his team through games. Last night there was none of it. They made some bad mistakes and the coaching and encouragement through that didn’t happen. It was hands up, over the face or head down which is unusual.

That is your opinion, its always easier in the stands. I would be willing to bet I know Coach Stamm much better than you and we certainly weren't watching the same game then.

  2. Conner just looked uninterested in this game from the start. This includes the coaching staff. Things didn’t go as planned and coaches had hands thrown in air and visually expressed displeasure but no timeouts called. No adjustments made and limped into halftime. In the second half much of the same until the end when their was a sliver of hope. Have seen this team play a lot and coaching staff was not in it either. Not sure if they just thought Dixie was going to pack it in.

Very unimpressed with this post nicely slamming a coaching staff. I did not see anything different from the staff that we have not seen all year. They are not an animated staff and they let the girls play for the most part. A timeout to you in the stands may have been what "you" thought was necessary. Before the Technical at no point was Conner out of the game so why blow the timeout with a Veteran Team? What I saw was a Conner team that struggle to finish baskets, not sure I have seen this team miss that many shots. Dixie came out and controlled the game and played the perfect game they needed to win. It happens! The coaching staff did not lose this game for Conner, Dixie executed and Conner did not. Conner had a great season and 1 night should not define that season. Did it end in the result they were looking for, no but it was a darn good season.

  4. We agree that one is for a coach to handle.

However, that was only one of the three "allegations" here.

Coach on Coach whatever it was and especially anything "colorful" directed at the Girls Soccer Coach in earshot of the girls and boys sound over the line.

    Again, if all that happened.

And if all that happened it sounds like a lack of institutional control and definite grounds for termination.

Think of it this way, suppose there is another incident with the Girls Soccer Coach/Girls Soccer Team and there is a history that wasn't addressed. That is called get your checkbook out and add some zeros. Again, if all that happened.

I am sure Tuner's Angels are on the case.

Fair enough, and yes that coach should be let go for that if indeed that happened.

  5. If all that happened at a Ryle practice (again if) I would fire the head coach (because he is ultimately accountable) and then investigate it to see who else needs to be fired.

I know nothing about any of this but if a fight broke out between players at practice why would you fire the coach just on that alone? Shouldn't you fire him for the way he handled it not because two kids got in a fight? He can't control the fact they went at it but he can control how it was broken up and handled thereafter? Simple saying he should be fired because it happened doesn't make sense. Again, I know nothing of the situation. I would just hate for me as a Coach in another sport at another school be fired because a kid did something stupid that I couldn't control.

  6. One month from now on July 24th will you be able to tell me the details of this game? You guys are taking a fun game the really means nothing in the grand scheme of things and turning into an argument. Who Cares! You can't put every player in the state on it, they had tryouts and of those that were at tryouts this is who they choose. I am good with it and think they all are deserving.

I meant June 24th! Apparently I am a month ahead!

  8. When my daughter played AAU with him as coach they were about 100 and 2. He can coach.

Panda- I respect you and your opinions and agree with you that he is a good coach. He is a great teacher of the fundamentals and I would trust him with my team any time. However, in general I do not like the comparison of HS coaching to AAU coaching. High school 90% of the time you are dealt a hand and you have to play it. AAU 100% of the time you select the kids that best fit your style and needs, those kids are easy to coach and produce results.

  9. Are you serious?

How many state champion coaches would you guess applied?

How many already are employed by the diocese?

How many would drastically decrease a region and district power that they compete against?

    Should I continue...

Absolutely I am serious! No clue what the bold statement means? But why does this make him the best fit for NDA and one that they should shun all others for? Great accomplishment with the State Championship but that alone does not make you the best fit for a program.

  10. Lighten up, Francis.

I wasn't trying to make a statement exclusively directed at you. I was just trying to keep the discussion in the open job thread for the Notre Dame BASKETBALL coaching position from getting veered off topic to volleyball. There was an existing open job thread for the volleyball job that was started on January 30th, and then yes, I posted a new thread this morning about the hire being made.

If you want to make a point about NDA's hiring timeline taking quite a bit of time, then why not just state your "simple" point rather than asking a question about a volleyball coach in a basketball thread?

Seriously, is this what BGP is coming to? Mention Volleyball in a thread as reference and get smacked down?

  11. Good point, it shouldn't take this long.

I am confused at this comment? The opening was official on 3/23 and it is now 4/11, that is 2.5 weeks and the school as on spring break for half that time. What is an appropriate time frame to hire someone? My guess is that Monday 3/26 the servers did not get shut down with incoming candidates. Maybe they want to get this one right?
