I'm not sure if that would be enough to get me to move out there. Lol

So long as you have a ton of money, I think living in California would be awesome.  Such a beautiful state and so diverse as far as access to beaches, mountains, etc.

I remember the first time I heard a teaser for this.  All that played was the opening notes and the first line of the song.  I immediately recognized Sturgill's voice and new this was going to be great.

I'd expect MSU to come after Stoops hard for this job when it inevitably comes open.

As a UK fan,  perhaps I'm biased, but that doesn't really sound like much of a step up from Lexington.  Over the last 5 seasons UK is 40-23 vs. 30-25 for MSU.  Seems like at both schools he would be recruiting mostly against the same teams as he already does.

I think the SEC is still the best conference so perhaps that has some pull.  I guess depending on how the new Big 20 or whatever they are up to now decides to realign it could make the path to a conference championship or playoff easier for Sparty.

  4. Gutters are necessary in Kentucky due to the high concentration of clay soils.  Clay soil is more susceptible to expansion and contractor due to moisture. This causes differential settlement in foundations, etc.

Duh. When I read that I was thinking Walton Goggins. Yeah, I'd say I need to watch it again lol.

    Glad he's back.

As much as I would love for them to find a way to bring Goggins back, I don't see how they do it with the original series ending with him in jail for some crimes that I don't think he would be getting released anytime soon.

Goggins is one of my favorite actors ever.  I can't think of any role he's had that I didn't love.  I'm currently hoping that HBO would do a spin off about Uncle Baby Billy.

  6. I used to get pretty upset with a school in situations were they would pull a scholarship offer, however, it no longer bothers me.  Both sides are guilty but in today's recruiting culture, the terms offer and commitment are virtually meaningless.  I guess the biggest thing that changed my mind was after I saw where kids would be committed to one school and then on signing day would sign a LOI with another school.  Only to later find out that the kid had been a silent commit to the other school all along.  Once it became apparent that some kids were using the schools as well I just figured all was fair from that point forward.

On another somewhat related topic, while NIL will definitely benefit some student athletes, I fully believe that in the long run it will ultimately end up harming more than it helps.

As it was originally understood, at least by me, allowing a student to take advantage of opportunities as they became available, is one thing.  But how these seems to have been implemented with having collectives and such that the school is expected to more or less buy the services of players, is quite another.  This will only increase the dominance of the top tier schools.  Lower tier schools without the resources to compete financially will only widen the gap between the halves and have nots.  I would expect that we will see the eliminate of several lower level programs as they just won't be able to provide what many student athletes will come to feel that they are entitled to.

I think NIL will probably benefit about 5% of the student athletes in the NCAA, with the remainder seeing no benefit as a best case scenario.

  7. This really isn't anything new.  I attended the University of Evansville in the mid 90's.  At the time their football program was DII - non scholarship.  (At least as long as you were overlook the academic scholarships given out to students with marginal academic prowess who just happened to be exceptional athletes.)  I think the typical football recruiting class was about 75 to 100 students, all desperate to do anything to not have to admit that their dreams of continuing their football careers were all but over.

I'd guess that about half of them would quit within the first month of practice with the other half doing the same at the conclusion of the season.  However, it seemed that about 75% of them would continue to be enrolled going into their sophomore year.  Ultimately a large percentage of the male students arrived on campus due to football.

I few years after I graduated the powers that be at UE made the decision to drop the football program.  If I recall correctly they used Title IX as an excuse, which never made seems to me given that the football program was non-scholarship (allegedly).

Upon the eliminate of the football program, overall enrollment particularly male enrollment began to drop.  This situation never really reversed itself, and is at the point that within the last few years they have began to eliminate academic programs as well.   I know a lot of people that only have one question when the university reaches out for fundraising or donations.  As long as the football team doesn't exist, neither does the school in a lot of their minds.

Even 30 years ago at one of the lowest levels of NCAA sports, schools were using the promise of a roster spot as a means to increase enrollment.

Does anyone know if their homeowners insurance would cover anything like this? About the only way I could think these folks could even attempt at getting any kind of money from this. Of course insurance is just a huge crock of crap also.

General speaking the majority of homeowners insurance polices would not be written with the intent to provide coverage for an incident such as this.

  9. I think it's pretty clear this team just isn't very good.  As of now, Wallace is the only player on the roster, in my opinion, that will have any type of meaningful NBA career.  Others might get to the league but I feel their time will be short.

  10. Growing up around southern Indiana and cheering for the local players who made the show, I never envisioned a day when Scott Rolen would be in the Hall of Fame and Don Mattingly would not.

Very similar stats over their respective careers:

Rolen - .281 Avg, 2077 Hits, 316, HR, 1287 RBI, ROY, 7x All Star, 8x Golden Glove, Silver Slugger, WS Champ in 17 seasons.

Mattingly - .307 Avg, 2153 Hits, 222 HR, 1099 RBI, 6x All Star, 9x Golden Glove, 3x Silver Slugger, MVP in 14 seasons.

How can a guy nicknamed Donny Baseball not get in the hall?

Only undisputed GOAT in professional sports, IMO.

I'm not sure you can make a case for anyone other than Wayne Gretzky in hockey.  All time leader in goals, assists, and points.   Alex OVechkin might catch him in goals as he only trails by 82, Gretzky has 714 more assists and 936 more points than the next closets players.  He also won 9 MVP awards.  There are others with more championships than he has but that is somewhat skewed by the fact that most of those players played in an era when the league only had six teams for twenty five years.
