  1. Wow! A player that has "talent" would chose not to play because of a coach hiring before they even play a minute for that coach?? If that is true, that is sad. What happended to playing because you had talent and PASSION for the game. If a kid wouldn't play for the reason above, then I would question their passion in the first place. Or is this a situation where mom and dad thinks suzie has talent and susie actually sees the writing on the wall. Talent is in the eyes of the beholder. If they have talent and want to play, they would play! Period!

I'm a huge Scott Schwartz fan. It will be an adjustment, but you won't find a more passionate candidate.

These young ladies have already lived with "get so and so the ball (insert coaches child's name) so they can score, get them the ball because a scout is here and they need more touches, etc. They don't have any reason based on what they have already experienced with the trio of dad coaches on the bench that things will be better with Schwartz. I'm not questioning his passion. I do wonder how many high school coaching positions he has even shown any interest in prior to this opening? If he has applied for others then I admit I am incorrect and he just really wants to coach high school girls. If not, then I have to think there is more to the story. I think everyone agrees the majority of parents think their little Johnny or Suzie has more talent than they probably do. That doesn't change just because a parent puts on a coaching shirt.

  2. Would you really know what many current players said on a survey? I realize exaggerations can mistakenly happen on these posts. Basketball fans would know that there are many many situations in both High School and College that have a parent with a child on the team. It's only a problem if the coach doesn't handle it properly and that’s only a problem if the administration let's it become one. As always, the key is in the right hire. As I've stated, the program needs a good X's and O's coach capable of developing talent, understanding coaching adjustments from the bench, providing positive leadership, and understanding the dynamics of coaching a large varsity program. I would hope the administration would no rule out any candidate that met that criteria based on their daughter living in the school district the same that I would hope no administration would hire someone simply based on their son or daughter being a talented player. It's time for this program to elevate. Make the right hire.

Yes - no reason for me to exaggerate. After the debacle Ryle has experienced with this situation in several (football, boys basketball, girls basketball, and softball to name a few) sports programs they would be wise to change courses on parent head coaches, assistant coaches, quarterback coaches, etc. I fully agree it is time for this program and the others to elevate. Why not spend the time searching for the most qualified, experienced candidate instead of just selecting a dad who suddenly became interested in coaching in the program and high school coaching in general when his daughter or son entered high school?

  3. They can put on a dog and pony show all they want, the new coach was selected before the season was over.

Interesting....many current players said on the surveys given to them..NO MORE PARENT COACHES! Certainly the administration at Ryle has seen the many, many problems this has the potential to cause. As it stands, there is no reason to think this coach will be any different.

  4. The problems with this program have been building for years - anyone who has watched the dynamic between the coach and his son have seen it coming. It's sad for the players on that team that have been caught in the crossfire. It's equally apalling that the administration at Ryle has let it happen.

  5. I have heard that bringing up younger girls is what has caused the problem. Jr. and Sr. girls apparently were not happy that 8th grade girls were brought up. They are not willing to put the time in when 8th grade girls that are well connected to the program play ahead of them.

  6. I think part of the problem is the scheduling. "Back in the day" you could depend on Tuesday and Friday night basketball games. This was a social event for kids as well as the community and the stands were filled. I know with all the Title laws this can't happen anymore, but I think that's why we have better Friday night football crowds (at least at our school).

  7. I agree with this post. IMO Holmes, Boone, Dixie, and Highlands will be the front runners in the 9th over the next 4 years. I hope in this time span Cov. Cath. get's it rolling. That would make the 9th very, very competitive.

Any opinions on Ryle for the next 4 years? As stated in other threads, they always seem to have talented kids coming out of middle school.

Congrats to the Boone teams - well deserved.

  8. I believe this is his second year at Ryle.

If he only coaches and does not work at a school in some other capacity (i.e instructional aide, etc.) then he is not permitted to choose the school. It is my understanding that Ryle lost out on an excellent boys JV coach last year because they would not allow him to transfer his son from another BCS.
