Any idea why coach Weinrich wouldn't shake hands with the staff after the game? I know the history but the staff members had nothing to do with how he ended his coaching career at Highlands.

He was trying to find a HHS administrator because a student from HHS was cussing him while he was watching their freshman kicker’s PAT.  Some heckling is understandable, but not the extreme this student was doing.
After speaking with HHS principal, he went to the line and stayed on field talking with many current and former players, parents, coaches.

I was not inferring they were not aware; I asked a very simply and fair question as I am rooting for CC to beat Ryle. I did not know he played both ways against GRC. I was simply asking if he was healthy. Sheesh, defensive much?

I didn’t say you were inferring they were not aware.  I simply made a statement that concludes he is healthy, he could really help the offense, and that you are correct about him playing defense.  Sheesh, defensive much?

Was this referring to Cooper's Coach Borchers?  Did he apply for the head coach position? If so, when? I had not heard this before.  What happened?  I would think he would've been a good candidate.

He did not apply.  He was offered the AD job months earlier & turned it down.  He absolutely could have handled both jobs, but he didn’t want either.

There are simply kids in the program that just plain don't know how to Win. Why would they know any different. Noway people thought the New staff was going to flip a Switch. Way too many things broken that needs fixed. Someone told me the other day that Highlands has helmets in their program that are from 2012. What? How can that be? I'm told not all but at least half the program is outfitted in refurbished Headgear. Technology is leaps and bounds better just in the last 5 years much less 9 years ago. Can't believe that's the case. My kid wouldn't be wearing a School issued helmet. Noway! My goodness Highlands has lowered their standards. Hopefully that's being fixed. I remember hearing Dale would really spend the money on his kids and made sure they had the very best of the best. I agree that this is a multi year project. The system the kids are learning isn't something that's just absorbed overnight. It will take some time. Hopefully Coach Sphire gets the same time the previous Staff got.

Helmets have a shelf life (think 10 years) and it’s also a requirement for them to be sent out after each season for an inspection.  The inspection company determines which helmets are useable & which are not.  New helmets were bought to replace the shelf life & out of commission helmets.

From what I was told by Equipment reps, Weinrich followed the same process for helmets that Mueller did.  His main concern was protecting the players in all safety requirements, even regarding the required pads.

I’m confused how a player doesn’t know how to win.  Every player and coach prepares to win.  Never known of any to prepare to not win.  HHS beat Ryle, Dixie, & Conner last season; seems like they ‘know’ how to win.

Anyone watching football the last several years knew changes needed to be made.  Sphire may not be the answer, but the prior situation could not go on like it was.  BW was a very good football coach, but not all coaches make good head coaches.  Things got stale and there was an unwillingness to make changes.

My comments about going 4A had nothing to do with either coach’s ability to be a head coach.  It was about who was the decision maker on the previous alignment and who may be the decision maker on the next one.

I believe the previous coach was in favor of moving to the correct class. I would imagine the current coach has the powers to be ears this time. The travel expenses claim always makes me chuckle. Those district games would be 3-4 trips a season. They went to BOWLING GREEN this year. It's a perception thing that the move to the correct class lessens their program. Look at the schedules of their teams in other sports....they move around the state. As for Cov Cath, they will still be more than happy to schedule them. Just my opinion.

    I agree!

Travel to Corbin was a result of that & maybe even Boyle & Paducah too.

You are correct the previous coach wanted to move to the correct class and he was told by the powers to be that it wasn’t his decision.
If it is now the current coach’s decision, well there you have it….. Egg on the powers to be face for not listening to one coach’s reasoning (who was a HHS football alum & coach of 20+ years at HHS) and then listening to another coach who would probably have the same reasons for the decision……the team.

Hahaha preach! But Nothing will ever be as bad as the garbage can! So freaking stupid. I still can’t believe that it was a thing.

The players loved it!  When a defense player got to add his name to the can, the team went crazy & looked for the can to spike the ball in.  It may be stupid to you, but it wasn’t about you.  2020 season was quiet in general due to covid, so anything to add excitement & fun was a plus to an already season of no ozone, fans, limited number of players on sidelines, etc

    Stay tuned.

In the last alignment cycle, the Board (not all) & many “donors” were against it due to travel expenses for the 4A district & they were not going to look like they were running from Cov Cath as a district game.  What’s changed?

I’ve known Coach Barre and his family since I was in diapers; awesome man and a great family (he raised two ridiculous athletes by the way). Really glad to see him (and hopefully more) welcomed back to the program.

In terms of your question as to why the former HC wouldn’t let things like this happened, I believe there was a lot of paranoia and it unfortunately stripped the program of A LOT (I can’t stress how many!) of traditions that made the program

Coach Lickert's first task was adding in a 10th game for the season. Newport will now host Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy on September 16th.

It was already on the schedule before Weinrich became coach.   It just got added to KHSAA website today.  Definitely not his first task.

Employee salaries are publicly available. The latest reported salaries I could find were from 2019. The middle school teachers I checked within the Ft. Thomas Independent district were all making between $60K and $65K - I honestly have no idea what he taught, but they have Weinrich listed as a middle school instructor for 2019. Plus they offered just over $9K for high school head coaching duties.

For an "apples to apples" comparison, it looks like middle school teachers in Newport Independent Schools were making between $38K and $52K. They offered $8K for high school head coaching duties.

Pay is based on level of education (Rank I, II, etc) of the individual & years of service, not whether person is a middle school or high school teacher.

Someone mentioned the transfer of unused sick days, they transfer with a teacher if staying in state of KY.  I’m not sure if public vs private matters but Newport & FTIS are public.

I am led to believe that BW is the choice.  Also hearing that Behymer was going to Dixie but now going to stay at Newport.  Not sure on Deaton going there, but would not surprise and he would be nice addition to staff.

Do you know if Umberg is still there or did he go to Mason Co?

  13. 21 minutes ago, BirdDaddy said:

Actually I think Behymer would Quit. Weinrich is not relieving any Coach. He couldn't muster it up at Highlands, he's not doing it at Newport. Just my Opinion. Maybe Weinrich can get the Band back together and hire Shelby Jones back for Special Teams.

You seem to have a personal issue with Weinrich.
I think being at HHS since 1995 is the opposite of “can’t muster it up at Highlands”.
