  1. Too many turnovers. Male takes lead on Harbison layup 26-25
  2. Sacred Heart defeated Manual 77-30 in the semi-final of the LIT.
  3. I wouldn’t discount duPont Manual. I know they aren’t clicking flawlessly, but if they put it together they can beat anyone.
  4. The AP poll is pretty consistent with the BGP ranking, except number 2 and 3 are reversed.
  5. This game is rescheduled due to weather. I believe the new date is 2/14 at SHA.
  6. Scott High travels to Sacred Heart for an 8:00pm game Wednesday 1/17. The Lady Eagles bring D1 talent Anna Clephane (Ball State) to Louisville to match up with Grace Berger (Indiana). Excited to see Anna play, who is averaging 29.4 pts/game with FG% of 55. She's also hitting 43.5% from the three point line. Anna plays with high intensity and is a pleasure to watch play the game. Sacred Heart's depth should prove too much for the Lady Eagles to overcome, but I think it will be close after the first half. The Valkyries should pull away in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
  7. I think Elizabethtown isn't a team that will be steam rolled by anyone. They are pretty good. Mercer deserves to be number 1 in the rankings, but can be beat by any of the top teams on the list. They escaped with a home win against Sacred Heart by two after being down by 15 late in the game. As most of the old timers on here know, much changes throughout the season. Some teams get better and others stay the same, while others get worse. Should be a fun couple of months especially the LIT that is just around the corner. I'm hoping for a SHA/Mercer County finals game in the LIT.
  8. Owensboro's starting PG was replaced by a freshman (Head) due to an illness. She played a really good game, but probably wasn't used to the speed and quickness the Valkyries have verse other teams they play. SHA turned them over 21 times and Head had 6 of them, but she did have 5 assists. Owensboro kept it close in the first quarter, but Samsel went 4-4 from the three in that quarter to help give the Valkyries a lead that they never relinquished. It was 22-15 at the end of the 1st quarter. SHA turned up the pressure in the second quarter and won that quarter 24-4 to pretty much put the game out of reach for the Lady Aces.
  9. I really can't compare the top three of all the top teams because I don't get to see them play enough to make that kind of statement. There are only a few on BGP that have seen all of these girls play over the last few years during the season and in the summer to make that kind of judgment. The top three schools and a few others all have really talented players on their squad and it will come down to which team executes their game plan, commits the least errors, and gets a little something called luck on their side that will determine who wins the sweet sixteen. The upcoming game between CC and SHA only helps each team get better and help them towards their goal of winning a State Championship. Other than that, the game in early Feb means little. That happened to SHA last year when they beat Butler two weeks before the Sweet sixteen, then lost to them in the opening round. First things first, I hope both teams have their sights on getting out of their region. Both teams are probably ranked first in their region, but they still have to win. Either team can be knocked off. We see it every year. I'm looking forward to a game between two top level girls basketball teams instead of a blow out win by 30-50 points. Good luck to the Camels.
  10. I know CC is the real deal and can beat anyone at anytime. Doesn't matter how many potential college kids are on your team, you still have to play the game. We've all seen teams that should beat another team 8 out of 10 times, but lose when it counts. To win a State Championship takes teams with skilled players and some good luck. Looking forward to watching the Camels play the Valkyries at the beginning of February. Let's hope and pray all the kids stay healthy!
  11. SHA has one signed D1 commit (Ciera Scott), D1 offers (Toller and Marshall), and signed NAIA commit Fitcher all coming in as key reserves. Probably all of the starting five all will play college basketball. Berger and Sivils have already signed to play at D1 schools. Sophomore Clemons and Junior Harris also have many schools recruiting them.
  12. Nelson County ran out to a 7-0 lead in first quarter, while the Valkyries were cold from the field. SHA went on their own 10-0 run. Nelson County is young with some good talent, but ran out of gas in the second half. The Valkyries got hot from the three in the second half to blow the game wide open.
  13. The 2018 LIT kicks off 1 month from today featuring four teams from outside of Louisville. Mercer County, George Rodgers Clark, Simon Kenton, and Nelson County will take part in the LIT against the top 12 ranked teams from the Louisville area (mainly 6th and 7th region). The top teams from Louisville that should make the field is Butler, Mercy, Bullitt East, North Bullitt, Sacred Heart, Male, Manual, and Eastern. I do wish Campbell County was playing in this event. Would love to see some of the match ups.
  14. I guess you haven't seen Sacred Heart play. They have many scoring threats.
  15. MaxPreps Top 25 National Girls Basketball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard - MaxPreps Mercer County moves up to #11 helped by their come from behind win against Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart stays at #21. Congrats to both teams for the national recognition for the state of Kentucky. Sacred Heart is currently playing in the Nike Tournament of Champion event held in Phoenix, AZ. They are playing in the top division that has many of the nations top teams. Sacred Heart won their first game against a very good Long Beach Poly (CA) 60-41. Today they play Riverdale Maryland that is considered one of the elite of elite teams in the nation this year.
  16. After looking at the stats, it proves out the saying "Individual stats don't win championships". There doesn't seem to be many stat leaders from the top ranked teams on the list.
  17. Here's the first stats report of the season from KHSSA: 2
