That doesn't sound like a school that wants to be a serious football school. If they really want to do what's best for the kids and for their program they need to make room for a coach.

I would think his accepting of another job would be enough to say that he's resigned. It's not like they will wait until his contract runs out at the end of June to officially hire a new coach...

I don't think so...from what I hear he's very happy in Alabama.

I don't think that was the point. I believe, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, the were forced out because the weather was bad and the softball team wanted to practice inside that day.

So what are the pros and cons of Harrison? Are they a lock to promote Coach Graham to the HC spot?

That doesn't lend itself to being a very successful football program. I can't think of how anyone would expect a 5A team to reach its potential with only 6 assistant coaches.

So why was Coach Stepp looking to get out after just one year...?

Just something I read on another board...if it's not allowed I'd be more than happy to change it. Just relaying other information that I had heard...

I think he may have had some issues that could permit him from coaching again in the near future...

I'm guessing Ray Graham and the Coach from Woodford, but that is strictly a guess.

I think what most people are trying to convey is that kids have a greater opportunity to continue their education at the next level playing football instead of basketball. That's why they'd like to see the shift to being a football state. With Kentucky being a basketball state, most kids think they really have a shot to play at UK or another D1 school and have no idea how far off base they are. However, a lot of these kids can play football in college but never get the opportunity because they spend most of their high school careers chasing unrealistic basketball dreams. It's just a numbers game...college football offers 20-25 scholarships per year while college basketball offers 3-4.

My argument would be that if we are trying to make Kentucky a football state wouldn't we model what we do after other football states? I don't know that Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, or any other football state in the south (I know Ohio isn't south, but they're close and have a lot of tradition) has to deal with all of this red tape just to practice football. I think it's best that the coaches regulate what their kids do at their individual schools...they need to work together. I don't think the state coming through with another sweeping reform (like banning some football activities in June) is really in everyone's best interest.

Stepp also applied and interviewed for the job at Campbellsville...apparently he's getting around quite a bit this off-season.

It pays a shade less than $2,000 per year compared to Laurel County. I guess thats not too bad.

$6,700 from their website. It bumps $1,000 every 5 years. Currently, it's a 26% pay cut.
