Front Runners

 

Beau Allen (QB, Lexington Catholic)

 

Week 2: Allen was a picture of precision against Indianapolis Howe, completing 14 of 17 throws for 242 yards with five touchdown passes against zero interceptions in Lexington Catholic's 43-9 win. A huge challenge awaits in the form of a Covington Catholic defense that has thoroughly locked down its first two opponents.

 

Season to date: 36/49 for 518 yards and 6 TDs/0 ints.

 

 

 

Michael Mayer (TE/LB, Covington Catholic)

 

Week 2: No one in the state has been as efficient at scoring touchdowns this year than Mayer. After two scores on as many touches in Week 1, he bested that number by one in Week 2. By the midway point of the second quarter versus Campbell County, the future Golden Domer had already scored three times - two receiving, one rushing - bringing his season total to five scores on five touches.

 

Season to date: 4 catches for 134 yards and 4 TDs - 1 carry for 29 yards and a TD - 9 tackles/1 int.

 

 

 

Reese Smith (WR/S, Boyle County)

 

Week 2: Smith is doing his best to keep pace with Mayer in the touchdown scoring efficiency department. His 97 yards and 2 touchdowns on three receptions against Bullitt Central give him three scores on just four touches through two games.

 

Season to date: 4 catches for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns

 

 

 

 

Locks

 

Malachi Corley (RB/WR/DB, Campbellsville)

 

Week 2: Following a modest start to the season in Week 1, Corley kicked it into high gear against Adair County. He touched the ball 13 times for 268 yards and 5 total touchdowns as the Eagles ripped the Indians 47-12. Corley's four rushing touchdowns represent a career best. Additionally, he pitched in seven tackles on defense. This week's game against 3A #9 Taylor County appears to be the toughest contest on Campbellsville's schedule and will provide him with an opportunity to go off on a quality opponent.

 

Season to date: 15 rushes for 232 yards and 6 TDs - 7 catches for 108 yards and 2 TDs - 9 tackles/1 fumble recovery

Jackson Hensley (WR, Pikeville)

 

Week 2: A highly anticipated regional matchup between the Panthers and Mongolia Central (WV) got out of hand in a hurry and Hensley was a main catalyst in the 47-7 Pikeville rout. He had a full night, hauling in 4 passes for 127 yards and 2 TDs, plus five tackles and a pick on defense. A huge rivalry game with major 1A implications against Paintsville lies straight ahead.

 

Season to date: 9 catches for 178 yards and 3 TDs - 12 tackles/1 int.

Reed Lanter (QB, Boyle County)

 

Week 2: Coming off an abbreviated evening's work against Iroquois, Lanter got to warm up the old throwing shoulder a little more against Bullitt Central. He completed 11 of 14 throws for 191 yards and three scores in Boyle's 56-7 beatdown of the Cougars.

 

Season to date: 13/16 for 322 yards and 3 TDs/1 int.

 

 

 

Octavious Oxendine (DT, North Hardin)

 

Week 2: The big guy was neutralized against Elizabethtown, registering only three tackles and no high impact plays. He'll need to step up his game this week. Oxendine and the Trojans have a shot at solidifying their claim to being the best 6A team in the state outside of Jefferson County on Friday when they host #6 Ballard.

 

Season to date: 11 tackles/3 TFL/2 sacks

 

 

 

Walker Parks (OT/DL, Frederick Douglass)

 

Week 2: The Broncos rushed for 274 yard and five touchdowns in a 62-14 thrashing of Tates Creek. He pulled double duty on the d-line, helping spearhead a defensive front that held the Commodores to just 37 yards rushing.

Jake Sloan (WR, Pulaski County)

 

Week 2: Offensively, Sloan was outshined by teammate Grant Oakes, who had 130 yards receiving and a couple of touchdowns. But he wasn't completely silent against Wayne County. He snagged six receptions, returned an onside kick for a touchdown, and made a game saving pass deflection at the goal line late in the fourth quarter that was then picked off by a teammate, sealing the Pulaski win.

 

Season to date: 20 receptions for 246 yards - 1 kickoff return TD

 

 

 

Jayden Stinson (QB, Mayfield)

 

Week 2: Hopkinsville took the Mayfield to the wire, but Stinson and the Cards hung tough and made plays when they had to. The southpaw QB wasn't at his most accurate, but did complete 11 throws for 318 yards and three touchdowns. Up next for Stinson and Co. is the annual renewal of one of the oldest rivalry games in the state - Mayfield vs. Paducah Tilghman.

 

Season to date: 30/51 for 551 yards and 5 TDs/1 int.

 

 

 

Vito Tisdale (RB/DB, Bowling Green)

 

Week 2: The Purples fell behind 0-14 to host McCracken County on two long touchdown passes - neither of which were to Tisdale's side of the field - before rebounding to score 42 straight points. Vito had another productive night on defense, tallying eight tackles. In the absence of offensive production, splash plays (i.e. turnovers created, special teams TDs) are what you look for from Tisdale, but those have yet to materialize.

 

Season to date: 19 tackles

 

 

 

John Young (OT, Christian Academy of Louisville)

 

Week 2: The Centurions, ranked #1 in 3A, travelled to Hopkinsville to face off with 5A Christian County. Though it wasn't necessarily a standout performance from Young or the CAL offense in general, they got the job done 36-0.

 

 

 

 

On The Bubble

 

Izayah Cummings (WR, Male)

 

Week 2: I said last week that Cummings had perhaps the biggest opening week performance of anyone on the watchlist. Week 2 saw him plummet to the other end of the spectrum. Ballard completely shut him out, leaving the UK commit with zero catches. He can't afford to get blanked like that again this week or next, as the Bulldogs face the other ⅔ of Louisville's big three, St. X and Trinity.

 

Season to date: 8 catches for 177 yards and 4 TDs

 

 

 

Drew Hartz (QB, Owensboro Catholic)

 

Week 2: Hartz continued his torrid start to the season with another strong outing against Daviess County. His 262 yards and three touchdowns carried the Aces past the Panthers, 36-18. He faces his biggest test of the season this week versus crosstown nemesis Owensboro. Another big game against the Red Devils coupled with a W should push Hartz up a tier into the "lock" category.

 

Season to date: 63/82 for 666 yards and 9 TDs/0 ints.

 

 

 

Jeriah Hightower (RB, Madisonville-North Hopkins)

 

Week 2: Hightower makes his regular season watchlist debut on the strength of a monster night versus Marshall County. MNH's workhorse gashed the Marshals' defense for 309 yards and 3 touchdowns on 27 carries. Next up is a ranked Murray squad that he battered for 232 yards last year.

 

Season to date: 45 rushes for 412 yards and 4 TDs

Brycen Huddleston (LB/KR, Highlands)

 

Week 2: Knoxville Catholic ran the ball down the throats of Huddy and the Highlands defense. The 375 rushing yards (544 total) allowed were a throwback to their run defense woes from a couple of years ago, though it's unlikely the Birds will see another offensive line like the one they saw in Corbin. At the end of the day though, the 31-28 setback was still a promising result and suggests that Highlands is continuing its trend back to prominence.

BoCo kids are fighting an up hill battle right now with the lack of strength of schedule and only playing a few series. Lanter has attempted 16 passes to Allen's 49! Hopefully the road gets a little tougher the starters will get to play alot more. I thought Bartleson was also in your preseason list? Pretty sure Smith had an interception last week also.

Sorry just went back and looked I must have been mistaken about Bartleson being listed in the preseason list I couldn't find his name listed.
