The Colonels beat the Rocks by a TD and a extra point, to two Field Goals.....

This years CovCath Varsity Baseball team has a "The game is never over, until we say it's over attitude" as they come from being down one run in the bottom of the seventh, to score two runs to win their second game in a row in the Colonels last at bat!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly plus, PeeWee's Place Star of the game, Gruber Grill defense star and BAWAC Inc. offense Star of the game, after I get a drink and finish the stats.

The Good: Corey Severson! The Junior Lefty goes six strong innings, giving up only one hit (HR 340) while striking out eight, Corey did get tired at the end where a runner reached base via E-5 and he walked two.

The Bad: Lankheit hits a single, then Krumps CR him but the CR gets picked off first. Severson at bat, then hits a triple that would have tied the game at that point 1-1 after four complete.

The UGLY: The wind...Temperature was 55 degrees but with the wind gusting up to 40mph, well just lets say, it was a tad nippy.

Gruber Grill Defense Star of the game: In the top of the seventh with the Colonels down 6-5 Coach Krumps brings in Junior James Tomlin for what I believe is his first varsity appearance. The young man K's the first batter he faces but then gives up a single. Man on first one out, when Mr Tomlin picks off the Rocks runner at first base for the second out of the inning. The next batter hits a single, so instead of one out and men on first and second, there are two outs and Tomlin get the batter to hit into a 6-3 ground out to end the inning.

BAWAC Inc Offensive Star of the game: Colonels Jake Lankheit who goes two for four, scores one run, and drives in the game ending runs to win the game.

PeeWee's Place star of the game: Got to go with Corey Severson who even through he gave up three earned runs, pitched a whale of a ball game, plus hitting a triple. It's a blast watching Severson strike out batters, who just stand there with the bat on their shoulder, while Blue punches them out.

CovCath is now 2-0 on the season and next plays Cooper HS at CovCath this Monday April 4th at 5pm.

Note: The CovCath Freshmen won their game @ CovCath over Ryle HS 10-0.

Marshall 1-3, one out; Lepold 5-3, two outs; Hill on a 2 ball one strike hits a HR over the right field wall (340) to put Trinity up 1-0.

Louisville Trinity top of the 6th: Severson pitching

Schmidt singles, but get CS 2-6 one out; Bland walks, one out man on first; Marshall hits a ground ball to third but the Colonels third baseman commits an error. Men on first and second one out; Lepold walks and the bases are loaded; Severson out Maile now pitching; Hill singles driving in a run; Kelly singles driving in a run; Smith singles driving in a run; Liebman K's two outs; Baenet doubles in one run and finally Schmidt makes his second out of the inning by going 4-3 to end the inning.

5 runs 4 earned 5 hits Trinity 6-0.

CovCath bottom of the sixth:

Stein goes U7, one out; Reese draws a walk on a 3B1S count, man on first one out; Best hits a single, two men on one out; Lankheit gets on via E-4 bases loaded, one out; Severson hits a ball to the third basemen who commits an error, run scores, bases still loaded; Schneider hits a double and drives home two runs, Grosser hits into a 6-3 out but a run scores on the put out, two outs; Trinity pitcher throws a WP and with a runner on third he scores, Rolf hits a single but then Nienaber hits into a 6-4 FC.

Stein reaches base on a E-5, Reese reaches base via a Nutini (HBP), runners now on first and second and no outs; Best lays down a outstanding bunt and beats the throw to first, bases loaded, no outs; Lankheit up and he hits a single against a Trinity drawn in infield to knock in the winning runs.
