Class 4A Notebook (10/9): Where Are the Upsets?

By DragonFire - In the several years that I've been writing about 4A, it has just been stupid how inconsistent the class is. In the past five years, there have been five different schools that won the state title. Almost every time you think you know something, you find out that you were completely wrong. In 2015, we knew Johnson Central was the best team. In 2016, we knew South Warren was going to repeat. Last year, we knew Johnson Central was going to repeat. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I've gotten used to everything being unpredictable. Yet here we are, entering our fourth straight week with the exact... Read More →

6A Notebook 10/8: Clear Cut #2?

By Bac2369 - Clear Cut #2 This was a short week for several high school football teams with some Thursday night action. The 6A Football Class had four match-ups on Thursday, starting with the Male, Butler, Trinity, and Henry Clay. #1 Male traveled to Bryan Station to continue its perfect season. Male made quick work of this contest, getting the 57-28 win. #4 Butler was also on the road this week, but just a quick trip to Pleasure Ridge Park for a district match-up. Butler also made quick work of Pleasure Ridge Park. Chaz Burks threw for 208 yards and 4 touchdowns. Noted as well, Jordan Watkins... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 10/8

By TheDeuce - 1. 6A Male (8-0) The Bulldogs traveled to Lexington last week looking to continue their winning ways, and did just that. Male defeated 6A Bryan Station 57-28. At first glance, it would seem as if Station had some success against the stingy Male defense, but the score was 57-8 at the break, and the majority of Station's points were scored on reserves. Male will host 6A Saint Xavier this week to determine the winner of the district. 2. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (7-0) They had to wait seven weeks, but CAL finally got the signature win they'd likely had circled since August,... BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (10/8)

By Ram - Class 1A The story last week was a few of the teams outside of the usual suspects. Kentucky Country Day rallied to get a huge District victory over Louisville Holy Cross and now take the driver's seat position in the race to November. Lynn Camp kept their undefeated hopes alive by making short work of Pineville. The Wildcats now only have Harlan standing in their way of a monster showdown with Williamsburg looming. Hazard and Paintsville felt little resistance this past week and will draw each other in a non-district game that should still have major ramifications. 1. Beechwood at... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (10/7): CovCath's Stars Shine Bright

By DevilMayCare - The fact that Bishop Chatard, the top team in Indiana's Class 3A, pushed Covington Catholic (7-0) more than anyone has in a season and a half should come as a surprise to no one. The Trojans are a very, very good football team. However, the 36 points and 421 yards of offense that the Colonels allowed in victory may have raised some eyebrows. Not since Fern Creek scored 35 on CovCath in the 2016 semifinals has anyone lit up the scoreboard against the Colonels like Chatard did. One way to counter those numbers is to put up some gaudy ones of your own; 52>36 and 573>421. The trio of Casey... Read More →

Six of the Top 12 Teams (or 50%) are on their BYE Week! Most teams try and schedule the BYE for this time of year as injuries do mount up for many teams! 3A Notebook: Allen and Robinson Shine in Another LexCath/Western Hills Shootout

By gchs_uk9 - Lexington Catholic Comes From Behind to Topple Western Hills For the second year in a row Lexington Catholic and Western Hills traded blows all night before Catholic finally picked up the victory, besting the Wolverines, 49-42, on Friday night. Tenth-ranked Western Hills' Wandale Robinson rushed for 200 yards and four touchdowns, had 37 yards receiving, passed for 64 yards, forced three fumbles, returned an interception 98 yards for a score, and compiled 14 tackles. It wasn't be enough, however, as fifth-ranked Lexington Catholic, behind star junior quarterback Beau Allen's 203 yards... Read More →

Bowling Green Purples next opponent; Warren Central Indianapolis - by the numbers...

By Purple Nation - Although the Purples get a bye week tonight, I went ahead and looked at some interesting numbers that I found on Maxpreps. I understand that polls, such as Maxpreps, is simply a estimation, it still shows how impressive this team out of Indy really is. After 7 games, both the Purples and Warren Central are undefeated (Warren Central plays their toughest team to date, tonight - Carmel) The seven teams that the Purples has faced has an average national ranking of 5,634 The seven teams that Warren Central Indy has faced has a average national ranking of 1,602 Warren Central QB Jayden... BluegrassPreps Central Kentucky Power Rankings 10-4-18

By PurplePride92 - Well, well, well. It finally happened. And it happened right here in the Central Kentucky Area. Henry Clay defeated Scott County. No, Henry Clay smacked Scott County 51-27 last weekend and sent Kentucky High School football fans in a state of shock as a result. That is The Story of the season so far as Scott County was considered to be at least a top 3-5 team overall in the state and Henry Clay hasn’t even been considered one of the top 5 teams in the Central Kentucky Area. That changes now. It’s clear Scott County isn’t who we thought they were and it is also clear that Henry Clay’s tough... Read More → Mr. Football Watchlist (10/4)

By DevilMayCare - Quarterbacks Beau Buchanan, Bowling Green (7-0, ranked #2 in 5A) Week 5: Buchanan completed 19 of 32 passes for 235 yards and 5 TDs in a 68-8 win over Grayson County. The numbers are starting to resemble our preseason expectations. This makes 10 TD passes in the past two weeks. He'll have two weeks to prepare for nationally ranked Warren Central (IN). 1A Notebook 10/3 - Larger Classes Move Aside

By Voice of Reason - It was a banner week for the 1A top ten. The only loss suffered by a top ten team came at the hands of another 1A top ten team. With the impressive wins by the 1A powerhouses, we are going to push back the districts review and talk about the big week in 1A and the top players in this class. It is always interesting to me when people assume that a school from a larger class should automatically win over a 1A team just because the school is bigger. It has been proven time and time again that 1A schools are very capable of beating larger class opponents and this week is another example of... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 10/2

By TheDeuce - 1. 6A Male (7-0) The Bulldogs just keep rolling. With yet another shutout and another blowout, Male defeated 6A Pleasure Ridge Park 49-0 last week. They take their talents on the road this week, visiting 6A Bryan Station in Lexington. 2. 2A DeSales (6-0) Another 6A team, and another hard fought win. DeSales faced their third 6A opponent of the year, and again came away with the victory against North Hardin, 27-24. This week, it's the game they've likely had circled on their calendar since the summer, as they take on crosstown 2A rival CAL, a battle for the top spot in 2A. 3. 2A... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (10/2): Taking Stock of the District Races

By DragonFire - For the second straight week, the vast majority of 4A knocked out the competition, so lets take stock of where were at, district by district. District 1 This district has played out so much like last season, its eerie. Logan County is unbeaten. Hopkinsville is 1-5, fresh off a two score loss to Madisonville. Madisonville is 5-2, with losses to Owensboro and Union County. All of these things were true in 2017 as well. Madisonville currently heads up the district, with a 3-0 mark and only their road trip to Logan County on the 12th ahead of them in district play. A win there will... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 10/1- Off or On Display

By ATLCat - Of BYES and WINS As the leaves change and the District Schedule gets deeper, you start to see teams take strategically set BYE weeks to rest up for the stretch run. Often times this week off will coincide with Fall break giving the kids and coaching staff a much deserved reprieve from the grind of the season. Of the Top 15 teams in Class 2A, five of those teams will choose to take a Friday off this week including Mayfield, Glasgow, LCA, Walton-Verona, and Murray. With so many of the top teams not scheduled to play, along with the mandatory nature that District Scheduling brings, it is... Read More →
