By Bac2369 - The Kentucky High School Football season is winding down and there were many games all over the state last week with district title implications on the line. So letís find out the Game-Set-Match. The first big time match-up put #1 Frederick Douglass and #6 Henry Clay. Frederick Douglass got on the board first with a 70 yard pass from Cameron Jones and a two point conversion to go up 8-0. Henry Clay responded with a 29... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (10/23): The Favorites Are Who We Thought They Were

By DragonFire - Johnson Central and Franklin-Simpson have spent the year ranked #1 and #2. Ashland has spent the entire year ranked #3 despite being unbeaten, while the two ahead suffered losses in the first four weeks of the year. With apologies to the rest of the west, we long ago figured out that Franklin-Simpson should go completely unchallenged en route to a third straight title game appearance. But who would be expected to face them, the Johnson Central/Ashland question, that remained to be answered. Thereís a pretty clear answer now. #1 Johnson Central had homefield advantage, and leveraged... Read More →

By Ram - Class 1A The very best television shows and movies will save the most dramatic plot twist for the end for dramatic emphasis. When Paintsville shocked Raceland last week 6-0, it became the cliff hanger that made an already stellar eastern semi-state just a bit more dramatic. Raceland now need a win over rival 3A Russell to regain their posture heading into November. Another eastern Kentucky district was decided when Lynn Camp saw their undefeated dreams come crashing to the tune of the 72 points scored by Williamsburg. Expect a pretty light workload in the season finale. Beechwood is the... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (10/21): Spartans usurp district crown from Purples

By DevilMayCare - After weeks of anticipation for the “Battle of Bowling Green”, the night finally came and went. It started out rather uneventful. But by game's end, the outcome proved incredibly eventful for the victors. The two teams were ranked #2 and #3 all season, though with each passing week more and more folks believed the order should have been reversed. Each team had a stellar quarterback. Each team had a high level, blue chip recruit. Talent was plentiful on both sides, but one team found an edge and rode it to victory. South Warren (9-0) leaned on its typically stout defense and Cameron... Read More →

3A Notebook: Rebels Show Mettle in Victory at Western Hills

By gchs_uk9 - Boyle County Withstands Challenge to Clinch District Championship Last year, Boyle County beat Western Hills twice by a combined score of 133-28. Western Hills' superstar Wandale Robinson compiled 114 yards receiving, 38 yards rushing, and two touchdowns in those games. Many likely assumed Boyle County's trip to the state capital on Friday night to play Western Hills would be more of the same. You'll have to forgive them - they were dead wrong. Top ranked Boyle County and #10 Western Hills slugged it out for three quarters before three fourth quarter touchdowns by the Rebels set the final... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 10-21

By ATLCat - 1. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 8-1)- The Eagles made a statement by taking rival Ashland to the woodshed and locking up homefield advantage. All that remains now is a battle with Belfry for power running game bragging rights. 2. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 8-1)- Corbin leaned on their Defense for a shutout and stretched their legs late to put away Casey County and lock up a District Title. The Hounds will look for geographical supremacy with Knox Central in a nice season finale clash. 3. Belfry Pirates (3A, 8-1)- Belfry keeps their momentum rolling by polishing off another running... By ATLCat - Breaking Down The Top Teams' Title Chances: MAYFIELD Why Mayfield Will Win the Title- The Cardinals check every box you want. They have a balanced and explosive Offense that is equally adept at putting together long scoring drives as well as big play strikes for sudden points. They have an opportunistic Defense capable of making plays in the backfield. Why Mayfield Will Not Win the Title- The Cardinals have to take their show on the road and will most likely have to play three of the Top teams in the State away from War Memorial Stadium. Perhaps their stiffest test short of the Finals... Read More →

By PurplePride92 - For the first time this year I am at an impasse when it comes to the Central Kentucky/Lexington Area Power Rankings. After seeing last weekís results I canít find a good reason to make a change in the rankings. And believe me, Iíve been looking for a reason to make some kind of change. I just canít do it. I donít see any reason to change anything. Because of that I am going to change things up a bit this week. I think there are many different things that can be touched on regarding the Central Kentucky/Lexington Area so after I post the Top Ten, Be On The Lookout For, Game of the Week, Last... By TheDeuce - 1. 6A St. Xavier (6-2) Since starting 0-2, the St. X has improved each week, despite multiple injuries to key players, specifically their starting QB. Backup QB Douglas Bodhaine led the way, going 9/13 for 125 yards and a score through the air. He also added 90 rushing yards and another TD.
