By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 5 Review: Titans-Colonels-Dragons Remain 1-2-3 By Colonelmike It was a pretty good week for the 8th Region, which posted a couple of upset wins over ranked opposition from outside the region and fared well otherwise. Both South Oldham and Spencer County claimed victories over the then-18th-ranked Warren Central Dragons, the top-ranked team in region four, and a program that has made it to the Sweet 16 Final Four the past two seasons. The region now owns victories over #2 Male, #8 Madisonville-North Hopkins, #12 North Laurel, and two victories over then- #18 Warren... Read More →

9th Region Week 5 review

By PP1 - While I love the holiday season, it is nice to have things returning to normal. There are several good games this week and some district seeds will start to take shape. Highlands is still undefeated, but St. Henry stole some of their thunder by defeating Lexington Catholic. Cov-Cath survived a first half push by Conner and then defeated a very strong Turpin team from Anderson County. My first coaching job back in 2000 was at Nagel Middle School, which is the feeder system for Turpin. Beechwood traveled to Ryle and brought home a victory, Ryle looked pretty good and they may be better than... Read More →

Lyon County and Union County were dealt considerable upsets, while Christian County starts to separate themselves from their district 8 foes. Here are the week 5 rankings: 1. Madisonville North Hopkins BGP #6 Season record: 11-3 The Maroons lost both of their games this week against higher ranked... Read More →

Seventh Region Week 5 Review: Male Returns To Kentucky To Find Itself Back On Top

By Smallhoops - While BluegrassPreps.com refused to fund a trip for me to travel to New Orleans last week to chronicle the Male Bulldogs' play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic, all reports suggest that the Bulldogs looked good in going 3-1 while dealing with additional injuries and illness. It was enough for Male to move back into this week's top spot. If and when Male gets everyone back on the court, look out. I did make it to see the Ballard Bruins play Pleasure Ridge Park Friday night. The Bruins are good, and Maker Bar looks like he is going to be a real force, but 33 turnovers are going to... Sixth Region Week 5 Review: PRP Back On Top

By Smallhoops - I have resigned myself to the fact that there will be little clarity in the Sixth Region for most, and perhaps all, of this year. But a team that beats the Ballard Bruins by 9 on the road, forcing the Bruins into 33 turnovers, deserves to move back into the top spot, so you will see that Pleasure Ridge Park again occupies that top spot. PRP is one of seven Sixth Region teams who will participate in the Louisville Invitational Tournament, which begins on Monday, January 13. I plan to do an LIT preview before the tournament starts. But there is plenty of good basketball to be played in... Read More →

Ten Best Programs to Never Win a State Title

By gchs_uk9 - A few years back I ran an article breaking down the top 50 programs in Kentucky football history. On that list were numerous state champions but also a handful of schools that have been right at the doorstep on multiple occasions but haven't been able to break through and win it all. For years the title was held by Somerset but the Jumpers left for good with a last second Class 2A championship win over Mayfield. Now let's take a look at who is still on that list and when/if we expect them to leave any time soon. 10. Lafayette Stats: 14 district championships, 23 playoff wins, 4 state... Read More →

16th Region Week 4 Review

By zebraman - Week 4 is now in the books. Ashland proved this week, not only are they at the top of the heap for the 16th region but they are able to play with good teams from other regions as well. Rowan County continued their winning ways as well. Outside of that, things are still a little jumbled. We look to get a little clearer picture over the next 10 days. 1) Ashland (Season: 12-0 This week: 3-0) This week was a big week for Ashland. Ashland hosted and won the 65th Annual Ashland Invitational Tournament. This was quite a big accomplishment based upon the amount of talent in the... Read More →
