9th Region Week 6 Review: No more Undefeated Teams

By PP1 - Well its been an interesting week. Highlands lost their first game and Cov Cath limped their way to a 68-point victory. Scotty Draud from Beechwood scored his 2,000th point and some mental math by the Rainmen on bluegrasspreps.com suggest that 3,000 points is a possibility. There seems to be a 9th Region JV Tournament in our midst. I do not know much about this tournament, but I applaud the Varsity coaches in the region in their collaboration to let this tournament take place. As a former 8th and 10th Region Coach, I recall some individual districts having JV Tournaments, but not an... Read More →

Clay County (12-5 overall, 6-1 vs. 13th Region Opponents) The Tigers are back at the top spot after picking up two impressive wins in back-to-back days over both North Laurel and South Laurel. 10th Region Week 6 Review: Colonels Punch Ticket to 2A State Tournament

By teeroy - 1. Bourbon County (15-2) - The Colonels are establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with throughout the state. The senior dominated, pressure oriented Colonels picked up a 56-41 win over Montgomery County to complete the season sweep over the Indians. Amirion Joyce had 19 points and seemed to be the difference in the game. Amari Faulkner also provided a spark. Bourbon County defeated both Harrison County (89-49) and Rowan County (57-53) in the 2A sectional to punch their ticket to the 2A state tournament in Owensboro. 2. George Rogers Clark (13-3) - The Cardinals defeated Powell... Read More →

Sixth Region Week 6 Review: Little Separation At The Top As We Head Into The LIT

By Smallhoops - It is really hard to sort out the top teams in the Sixth Region. Consider: Fern Creek has beaten Jeffersontown twice but has lost to Ballard and Seneca. Jeffersontown has lost to Fern Creek twice but has beaten PRP. PRP has lost to Jeffersontown, Butler, and Seneca, but looked really good in beating Ballard. , Butler lost to PRP but has beaten Seneca. Read More →

Seventh Region Week 6 Review: Things Are Shaping Up For A Great LIT

By Smallhoops - It was another great week in the Seventh Region, with the Male Bulldogs staying in the top spot with wins over North Oldham and St. X. But the Ballard Bruins got back Rashad Bishop and, after falling to PRP the week before, is looking strong. St. X looked really good in losing to Male and in betting Collegiate, Seneca hasn't lost in over a month, and Collegiate was very competitive against St. X. There is a lot of good basketball being played in the Seventh Region every week. That good play will continue in this week's Louisville Invitational Tournament, in which the best of both the... Sixth Region All A Preview

By Smallhoops - While play gets under way on Monday in the Louisville Invitational Tournament at Valley High School, two miles down the road at Beth Haven another tournament will also be getting under way, the Sixth Region All A tournament. Five teams will participate. Portland Christian (3-9) and Evangel Christian (1-7) open the tournament against each other Monday night. They have yet to play each other this season, but they have played three common opponents (Heritage Academy, Walden, and Christian Fellowship). The comparative results suggest that Portland Christian is likely to come out on top in... Read More →

73rd Louisville Invitational Tournament Preview

By Smallhoops - The 73rd annual Louisville Invitational Tournament takes place this week at Valley High School. Since its inception in 1948 as a tournament featuring Male, Manual, St. X, and Flaget plus four invited teams from outside Jefferson County, the LIT has been a highlight of the Jefferson County high school basketball season. There have been several format changes to the LIT through the years. In 2009 the practice of limiting the LIT to teams from the Sixth and Seventh regions began, with the number of participating teams being reduced from 20 to 16 in 2018. The 13-3 Male Bulldogs are this... Read More →

4th Region All-2010s Team

By DragonFire - A bit late to the party on the decade retrospectives with this, but better late than never! The 2010s were pretty good to the 4th Region, especially the back half. The region produced five state semifinalists, two state runners-up, and the state champions in 2016/17 when Bowling Green brought home the hardware. There was plenty of talent to come through the region, especially in that same 2016/17 year. Some members of the first team were no-brainers, but there were some tough choices to be made. A note - consideration for this team was judged solely on the time the player spent in... Read More →

Seventh Region All A Preview

By Smallhoops - The Seventh Region All A tournament commences on Friday at one of my favorite venues in Jefferson County, the old Male gym. Few if any of the players who will play in this tournament will appreciate the significance this gym has played in high school basketball in Louisville through so many years, and that's a shame. In any event, the two first round games pit St. Francis taking on Walden and Kentucky Country Day facing Brown. Walden stands 9-3 on the season while the Wyverns of St. Francis currently sport a 2-8 record. These two teams opened the season against each other, with Walden... Read More →

13th Region Week Five Review

By Les - 1. North Laurel (9-4, 4-0) The Jaguars came back from their trip to Florida by turning in what many believe was their best performance of the young season. North Laurel handed Pulaski County an 82-67 loss as freshman Ryan Davidson led the way with 22 points. Freshman Reed Sheppard added 18 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in the win. 2. South Laurel (11-3, 6-1) The Cardinals will get to enjoy a week off after knocking off Clay County on Saturday, 56-55. Senior Matt Cromer continues to dominate, scoring 15 points during the win. South Laurel will be back in action on the road on... Read More →

16th Region Week 5 Review

By zebraman - Week 5 further showed us the 62nd and 63rd districts are going to be wars. In the 63rd, Raceland has played 2 district games, one (Russell) was an overtime loss. The other (Greenup) was a triple overtime win. There seems be a lot of parity. However, mix in the rivalry and the heart and these could be wars. Ashland continued to be what we have seen of Ashland this season so far. The circle on their schedule points to a week 6 game with Trinity, which knocked the Tomcats out of the Sweet 16 last season. 1) Ashland (Season: 14-0 This week: 2-0) Ashland continued their dominance... 1st Region Week 5 Review

By silo11 - Week Five Review: McCracken County is flexing its muscles and continue to prove they are the cream of the crop. Marshall is still trying to find their way amongst a extremely tough schedule. Murray has an 8 game winning streak, and Paducah Tilghman is looking more like a contender each game, but a tough stretch lies ahead for them. Here is what happened this past week in Region 1: 1. McCracken County BGP #8 Season Record: 12-4 McCracken currently on a 5 game winning streak, had no trouble in any of their 3 games this week. Lexington Christian, Crittendent County and Poplar... 8th Region Week 5 Review - Titans-Colonels-Dragons Remain 1-2-3

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 5 Review: Titans-Colonels-Dragons Remain 1-2-3 By Colonelmike It was a pretty good week for the 8th Region, which posted a couple of upset wins over ranked opposition from outside the region and fared well otherwise. Both South Oldham and Spencer County claimed victories over the then-18th-ranked Warren Central Dragons, the top-ranked team in region four, and a program that has made it to the Sweet 16 Final Four the past two seasons. The region now owns victories over #2 Male, #8 Madisonville-North Hopkins, #12 North Laurel, and two victories over then- #18 Warren... Read More →
