Page 4 of I think fight of the night and best KO (but in this case best submission since there was no ko's) are each worth 40k.... 60 comments | 1381 Views | Go to page 1 →

At least in predicting the UFC you can't be ridiculed for being wrong, because there is no way anyone else has picked all these upsets either...

    It's safe.

I was 2 for 5 Saturday...I got Fitch and Machida right, missed on Liddell, Rua and Tavares. 40% is pretty good these days.

I wonder if Vera will be able to overcome the size difference like Couture did. If not, you have to think he'd consider moving to LHW, since it probably wouldn't be that hard for him. Rampage needs some competition anyway it seems...

I wouldn't mind seeing Vera at LHW. I'm guessing the winner of this fight (barring no Fedor) fights Randy in February.

Thats what I have said. The big fighters earn the big money even when they lose. Something there doesnt seem right.

And hence the reason exclusive contracts on baaaaad for MMA. It also is the reason that many think some fights are fixed and Dana is a crook.

Highly unlikely any fights were "fixed" on Saturday night.

Answer one question, and it might clear it up for you...

The people who bought the PPV, did they buy it to watch Chuck Liddell or Keith Jardine?

Really...if Dana was into fight fixing, we wouldn't have seen all these upsets. I do think sometimes judges get too caught up in the favorite...like when Bisping won a bogus decision in England, and one of the judges scoring that fight for Liddell (although I must admit, after watching it again, Liddell mounted a little more offense than I thought...he still didn't win the fight though, no way).

You know they would have "fixed" a Chuck win to set up the big payday that would have been Chuck vs. Wanderlei. I don't buy that fight fixing idea...

I would also disagree that exclusive contracts are bad. There are a handful of guys that the UFC can throw out there and sell a ton of PPV's...after that, nobody cares enough about the other guys to watch.

So, guys like Chuck could argue the other way...even if they lose, they're still the main reason UFC sold as many PPV's as they did. Chuck Liddell has been the main event on the 3 highest rated UFC PPV's ever...I think, if anything, he's getting hosed as well.

The UFC can use a guy like Chuck to sell the show, and then use it to market a handful of lesser known guys. Otherwise, how are some of these fighters going to be seen.

I certainly think Jardine should have earned more for beating Chuck, but at the same time, he really hadn't earned the chance to fight him considering he lost his last fight. The tradeoff is, he doesn't get paid as much, but he gets the opportunity to fight a legend...now look at Jardine...he'll get paid more to show up next time than he made in total against Chuck. The current setup is definitely better from a fan perspective, IMO.

And it wasn't a significant difference that would make me suspicious...same with Shogun...his physique looked pretty much the same to me. Apparently, his cardio has been questioned before, so that wasn't as surprising to some people as it was to me.

As for Shogun and Liddell...I haven't found anything about Shogun being injured yet. And there is a new rumor that those two may fight...Chuck vs. Shogun. If Chuck can't beat a PRIDE guy, then he might be done...
Scratch that rumor...Shogun is having surgery to repair an injured knee ligament and won't even be training again until late January at the earliest.

Did Jardine get any kind of win bonus? I know some of these guys make more in bonuses then the actual salary for just showing up.

7K to show, 7K to win...they get bonuses for best submission and KO I think, but since his fight went to a decision, that's not an option. There might have been a "best fight of the night" bonus, but I'm not sure.
