Darner and Samad Sweep PAC Baseball Weekly Honors
(WEXFORD, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team swept the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) weekly honors as sophomore right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) was named the Hitter of the Week and freshman Jake Samad (Burlington, Ky./Conner) was named the Pitcher of the Week today (Monday, April 11, 2011) by the conference office.
Darner batted .722 (13-for-18) with two home runs, two doubles, 11 runs scored and 12 runs batted-in for the 23rd-ranked Saints, who went 5-0 last week (4-0 vs. PAC) with double-digit run totals in all five wins. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.167, while is on base percentage was .750 (18-for-24). Darner went five-for-five with five RBI in a 17-3 PAC win over Saint Vincent College on Sunday.
Samad fired a one-hitter in a 12-1 PAC win over Saint Vincent on Sunday. he took a perfect game into the sixth inning and lost a no-hitter with two outs in seventh inning of the seven inning game. He finished the game with one unearned run with one walk and three strikeouts.
Darner, Samad and the rest of the 23rd-ranked Saints return to action on Tuesday (April 12) when they travel to Delaware, Ohio for a non-conference game with Ohio Wesleyan University. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.Advertisement

To this day, I still can't understand why he didn't receive more D1 offers, as his senior year at CovCath he almost was on par with Luke Maile year....

Ryan Darner Named Division III National Hitter of the Week
(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Thomas More sophomore right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) has been named the NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Darner batted .722 (13-for-18) with two home runs, two doubles, 11 runs scored and 12 runs batted-in for the 18th-ranked Saints, who went 5-0 last week (4-0 in conference) with double digits run totals in all five wins. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.167, while his on base percentage was .750 (18-for-24). He began the week with a four-for-five game and three RBI in a 12-7 win over Center, and then scored three runs in a 15-14 win over Bethany. In a tripleheader sweep of Saint Vincent on Sunday, he went nine-for-12 with eight RBI and seven runs scored. In the final game, he went five-for-five with a double, two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored in a 17-3 win. Darner was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Hitter of the Week earlier this week.
Darner and the rest of the Saints return to action this weekend when they host PAC rival Westminster College in a three-game series at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
