    NFL Parity

    I heard this today.

In the last 5 years, half of the teams that made the playoffs did NOT make it the year before.

4 of the last 8 (I think) Super Bowl winners did not make the playoffs the year before they won the SB.

So what one team did last year is of no bearing to this year.

THIS is the reason the NFL is so successful.

Off of the top of my head w/ the I think portion aren't 5 of the last 6 SB winners NE 3 times, Pitt, Indy? 4 of those 5 were in the playoffs the year before right? That means the others weren't or am I way off.

Free agency and the NFL draft.... you can quickly become a good team with the right coaching staff.

Are those the ones that didn't make it? I assumed the Pats made the playoffs in 2003, but I think they went 9-7 and missed now that I'm thinking about it again.

It has a lot more to do w/ a salary cap than the things you mentioned. The best team in the league would be less than a 14 point favorite against the worst. Free agency and the draft help a lot, but it's too hard to get that much better when you can't just pay for everyone.

And the fact there are no guaranteed contracts. Players put it all on the line week in and week out.

Those 4 won the SB the year after they did not make the playoffs.

They don't call it the "National Fake you out League" for nothing!
The salary cap has made it far and away the best of all the pro sports. I wish MLB would take note!!!
