Honestly, that word lost it's luster when the gay community started using it to describe heterosexuals. As stated, stupid.

Kobe has gotten off easier than alot of guys would have that are so-called "public enemies". LeBron would have been crucified, as would ARod, Barry Bonds, Brett Favre, etc.

That is sufficient for me. He is suppose to say he "deeply regrets" it or something like that? So often we criticize athletes for fake apologies that in some ways I appreciate what he said. Fining him 100K for this is insane.
All I'm saying is if he wanted this to go away an actual apology would have been nice. The whole thing doesn't really bother me too much, it was dumb and mostly immature IMO. No need for a 30 year old man to say that about anyone, that's something I hear from high schoolers.

Kobe come out right away and issues his statement to try to smooth things over and did interviews . He didn't try to hide from it at all. I couldn't care less about this anymore honestly. That term is used loosely and I hear it used all the time doesn't make it right but just because Kobe said it doesn't mean we should be outraged. Next time you buddy says it say something to him if it bothers you this much.

Is this at me? Because I said it didn't really bother me that much. It has gone from a gay slur to just something that alot of immature people throw around.

I didn't mean you directly just in general. I am guilty of using this or other words similar to this every now and then and I would be shocked if you guys that are crying foul on Kobe haven't a time or two.

I didn't realize all the gay people got together and made a decision on this. For what it's worth, I've never heard the gay men or women I know use it in any way other than to discuss how hateful it is (at least not in front of me). It shouldn't be used. Ever.

I know I'll come across as wrong to many who are more politically correct than me, but I feel like the official is the only one that Kobe should apologize too.

The official didn't even hear him or know Kobe said it until it was reported on ESPN.

I agree though. That is the only person he owes an apology to.

He was on the bench around his teammates. Had the cameras not caught him this is a non story and life goes on. You learn in life who you can and can't talk around and regardless of this incident this kind of vulgar talk will still go on. I would imagine the players will try to be aware of the cameras but they will still say things that aren't politically correct. On the bench, in the locker room and on buses and planes. It will never stop. Maybe I am desensitized because I work in a factory and friends and I engage in x-rated conversations daily that include all of the taboo words. We know who we can and can't talk like that around and to me Kobe was in that same place mentally that we are at when we talk amongst ourselves at work(where I say how I really feel about things...). Had he known the camera was going to focus on him he probably wouldn't have said it. But he did, he's paying the price but let's not carry on like this a major deal because to me it isn't unless Bennie Adams is actually gay. Then it becomes a whole other issue.

A homosexual friend showed me a book of "homosexual slang" and that word was in a phrase, with a definition. They said they and their friends use that particular phrase quite frequently to describe heterosexuals that always hang out with their gay friends. Not my book, not my phrase, but from that day forward that word got a lot less offensive to me.

It is equivalent to someone making $50,000/year having to pay $200. It isn't a lot of money.

It in its most rudimentary sense, sure. To put it on that level then I look at it more as having to pay $200 for something that should have cost you about $50. $200 is a lot of money to all of a sudden lose for someone making $50,000.

    Yes. It most certainly is.

Anyone see where the league violated its own policy when fining players with this? The rule book supposedly says a maximum of only $50,000 can be fined for any one player for any one incident.
