  1. Watched this game on-line yesterday. Most people probably missed it but in the last minute Letcher county put in a Senior player who it appeared must have been sidelined with an injury. She was able to get off a three point shot and missed. then a Ryle player got the rebound and threw it directly back to her. I was only half watching and thought it was just a mistake until it happened a second time. It ended up that the girl received the ball again and put in a lay up. I was incredibly impressed by the Ryle player(s) who were aware enough to see this and give this young woman a chance to be in the records books. These type actions should be celebrated and broadcast. It is what high school athletics should be. I congratulate the Ryle players. I tried to ask some people I know and they assured me it was not set up, those young women from Ryle did that on their own. I thought for sure someone would point this out but I have not seen anything so I thought I would post it here. This type positive character should get as much press as the negative. Congrats to all involved. I would like to know more about the young woman who made the shot if someone from Letcher County would be willing share some insight.
  2. Congrats to Maddie. Well deserved. Like all exceptional players, the stat book will never reflect how much better she made her teammates and how she took control when needed. Her unselfish play, athleticism and overall character will be missed but her effect on the younger players will continue for the next several years. It will be fun to watch Maddie with her classmates at Oregon.
  3. Great game to watch. It had a little bit of everything that makes high school sports great. The flow of the game changed many times and the players and coaches made their adjustments. The prior posts are correct, these two teams should have a great rivalry the next several years. NDA deserves all the accolades they received this year - great group of young girls stepping up in their roles. Same for Ryle. Certainly a bit of nervousness when Maddie Scherr went out but the young ladies settled in and did a great job. Both teams had to deal with inconsistent calls in a physical game but kept their cool and played. Fun to watch both coaching staffs make adjustments. Hoping for a quick recovery for Maddie. Hoping for another Raider/9th region title!
  4. I applaud all of those willing to take on the task of coaching, especially at the high school girls level. You can have all of the talent you want but if a coach and her staff cannot get them to play together, they will not win. You can have the greatest coaches but without talent, you will not win. It is the hope of every player, coach and parent that they are part of a "program" that works on all cylinders; that achieves the goal of going farther than people think they would and, for a very special few, winning it all. All of us who have been around high school sports have seen it when one of the cylinders doesn't spark. Some of us have been lucky enough to have all the cylinders spark and take it all the way. Any coach who has made it all the way deserves the accolades which accompany such a feat. They were lucky enough to have the talent to "coach up" and create a scheme to take advantage of the talent. They have surrounded themselves with the right staff, educating not just the current players but those coming up in the system. The parents have to have bought in (we all have seen what poison disgruntled parents can be to a program). I know the hours it takes, not just watching film and creating game plans but working with players, parents, fund-raising, planning and everything else on top of just coaching. Knowing that 90% of times the wins are attributed to the players and the losses attributed to the coach. All done out in front of the public with everyone free to criticize every decision. The best coaches understand the importance of the "program" and how each piece fits together. Clearly Coach Haitz has done a good job and should be commended for putting all of the pieces together. Even looking at this season this team seema to have come together from a team that suffered without its best player to everyone finding their role once she returned. It appears all cylinders are working together. Of course this is high school sports - lets see what tomorrow brings. I look forward to watching this coach, and many others, and their programs, in the future. God bless all of you who choose coaching as your devotion (and that is what it is - devotion). Hopefully you get half as much out of it as the young women whose lives you touch. I know my daughter is a better person because of the coaches she has had along the way. Thanks again to all of you who work to make these young women better - in every sense. Bringing it back to the topic of the thread, the ninth region has a lot of talent and a lot of good coaches with good programs, that is why we sit in the stands each week. Good Luck to all of the programs.
  5. I watched the game. It was a good game by both teams. Both missed some good opportunities but it was a fairly even match. Looking forward to a continued great rivalry in the next few years based on the varsity and JV games. Gotta love High School football.
  6. Highlands won in a shootout. CCH had to come from a 2-0 deficit to tie and send to overtime. Highlands wins the shootout after a scoreless overtime. Great game. Didn't understand the referee needing to have conversations as the clock ticked time away (especially in overtime). I am sure both teams would have liked the time to play. At one point during a Highlands penalty kick two opposing players were jockeying for position and instead of doing anything he walked over, bent over and just stared at them, making everyone wait as he just watched, not saying anything to anyone. I don't know if anyone has an explanation. Sad for either team to lose. Congrats to CCH, especially the seniors. You represented well. Good luck in all you do in the future. Congrats and good luck to the Bluebirds!
  7. CCH 2 New Cath 0 Good game. NCC outplayed CCH the first half. CCH got the better of the second half. Neat to see a bunch of the players from both teams get together to take a picture after the game. They all played together at some time or another on a club team and the friendships have endured. Great sportsmanship and show of great character by the NCC players to participate after not winning. Congrats to them. Good luck to the Colonels against Highlands Saturday.
  8. I agree that it would be great to have a CCH/Highlands final after the football game the night before but neither of those teams should look past tomorrow night. Each of the remaining teams have a legitimate shot. HC has already beaten CCH in the Districts and NCC just beat a very good Connor team. Should be an interesting few days of soccer. Glad to have some discussion to read.
  9. It is sad it is difficult to find any soccer results or reports. Where do people go for their info? Results for 9th district from KHSAA results board: First Round: Newport Central 2 v Conner 1 in shootout Holy Cross 1 v St Henry 0 CCH 2 v Dixie 0 Highlands 5 v Ryle 0 Thursdays Game Schedule (at Dixie HS): 5:30 Highlands v Holy Cross 7:30 CCH v NCC Finals scheduled for 7:30 pm Saturday at Dixie
  10. I cannot summarize a game like Three Blind Mice but suffice it to say this was a tough game for both teams. CCH took a while to adjust to the grass. They have another game on grass tomorrow. St Henry generally keeps their grass even longer. Conner is fast and tenacious. CCH has played a very tough schedule and I hope it pays off. Both teams have a shot to extend their season by winning region.
  11. Holladay is incredibly calm for a Frosh. He has shown poise that a lot of upperclassmen would like to have. He is a quality young man off the field as well.
  12. Congrats to CCH! Great finish to a great season!!
  13. Watched all of Ryle's run this weekend. Congrats to the Lady Raiders! What a great team effort! The coaches laid out great game plans for each game and all of the players stepped up to do their job. When the opponents would try to concentrate on any one or two players, the rest of the players on the court made them pay. They never lost their composure, even with some very unfortunate officiating. That was truly a team effort. They certainly earned it. Pretty cool for the four seniors to join the few ladies in the Commonwealth of Kentucky who can say they won the last high school basketball game they ever played!!! Congrats!! Much to be proud of!!
  14. Great job by the Pandas. Really looking forward to watching them in the future. The Raiders showed good poise to come back for the win. Good luck Raiders.
  15. I have no idea, I only received an answer to a question I posed.
