  1. I see your point. I think because my Friday nights are spent watching Mountain football where the Bone and Power I are so often the only tactics coaches use - and I might add often passing less than 10 times a game sometimes far less - my perspective is different. Mountain teams have becomes so reliant upon "smash mouth" football that they neglect the most powerful weapon in the sport - the forward pass. Therefore when I see any defense of this archaic approach to football my reflex is to deconstruct the argument for it. I ran the bone as a coach because I did not understand coverages, weaknesses, combo routes, etc. My QB's were never great throwers but they could run. And I think that is what happens in so many teams today that get stuck running the ball 80 or 90 percent of the time. The coaches simply do not have the the talent, knowledge, or expertise to craft a passing offense that exploits defenses.
  2. Great article. Corbin has been a real surprise. Great to see them showing such dominance early after losing talent that most did not know they could replace so well. In a year where Bell is not the tidal wave they normally are - Wayne may be their only big challenge in the regular season.
  3. While I agree the Bone and other option based offenses are still in use in various ways there is a huge point that is being overlooked here. Passing dominates football today. Yes - you have to run it effectively but without a passing attack that is potent teams simply load the box and clog you up. Sure, if you are athletically superior you can 3 yards and a cloud of dust your way to yardage. But too many teams in KY still live and die by the run and only use the pass as the "surprise" or "bomb". Pass completion rates in great programs have increased as teams have realized getting the ball "in space" is the key to consistent drives. Option football will always work but it will never win championships vs teams who can pass and run effectively. And if I had to choose one - I'd take that passing attack all day. That is how you score early and often.
  4. HC is the real deal this year. They will be trouble for everyone they play in the regular season.
  5. I have seen many girls play football at the K-6 grade levels and a few are really good. Once puberty hits boys get a dose of testosterone and they pull away in the strength and aggressiveness department. I can't see how it makes sense in a world where football is under daily scrutiny and outright attack for safety issues to let a female take a chance on being the next major injury that causes the sport to endure further controversy. As long as they pee in separate places at school, they should not play football together.
  6. I agree the trip will take it toll. I say Bell finds a way to win this one is a low scoring affair. 14-12.
  7. HC looked solid in their scrimmage against Knox Central. They likely will have no issue putting up a win this week. HC 32 MC 7.
  8. Corbin should fair better this year than last. Too many close games just went the wrong way for them.
