  1. Ole Belfry0304 here sent Barker a tweet a few weeks ago that he ended up retweeting me, don't hate on me too bad but I told him to be careful about Kentucky, they're going to expect a whole lot, really fast... not a lot of patience in the BBN and even though it's a different sport Archie Goodwin was a prime example of that. That being said, here's to hoping the kids a Gamecock or Wildcat.
  2. I refer to everyone, child, boy, girl or whatever as man but sorry if I offended ya! Well, to be honest, I'm gonna say that the kid probably didn't realize the consequences and rolled in and was like "I'll bring it, it'll be cool" and then told the teacher and was gonna try to get off on being honest ... but I don't know. In the case that he really did just leave it in his pocket and didn't realize, I can't bring myself to blame an 11 year old. If it was an honest mistake, and he told his teacher... it would mess with you, ya know? As a kid. The parents are probably 100% at fault in any situation for the kid being able to get a gun. I'm a grown man, and still have to go to my mom's bedroom and get someone to open the case for me lol
  3. Wonderful schedule! Who said we are scrimmaging Richlands? My step-dad graduated from there, went around the world with the armed forces, and now resides here in beautiful Belfry, KY and I've suggested the coaches hit them up for a few years now. Thought that would be awesome. I love their stadium. I honestly think the key to the season is how well the 4 young men put into the LB/DE spots pan out. The lineman will come around, Coach Haywood seems to have them eating cornbread and nails from the time they're born. The athletic depth Belfry has is incredible. Dari, Johnson, Catron, Taylor, Warren, Willis ... all for only 4 defensive back spots. So I think the biggest thing will be getting a solid LB core in there. If that happens, this could be a dangerous team. If not, this could be a long year. Regardless, Pirate fans oughta expect a few losses in the regular season. Maybe more than a few... if it weren't for the experience of it I don't know that I'd attend the Christian Academy of Knoxville game. I try to be positive and though I feel like Harlan County is a favorite over us, Somerset and Gallia could beat us but we have them at home so I'm not sure, as well at JCHS... but the CAK game... shew, I'm afraid it could be ugly.
  4. Oh I forgot that 11 year olds are to act as responsibly as grown men. Come on, man? That's a kid...
  5. I actually feel bad for the kid because he trusted in his teacher because he made a mistake that really probably isn't on him, and he's thrown in jail for it? Mentally that is gonna affect that kid I would think.
  6. @Watsui: thank ya sir! @Cats3X: 100% agree, all comes down to game planning and knowing what you have to do. I think at times Belfry fans fall in love with breaking those 55 yard runs against the Lawrence's and such of the state and really forget the beauty of a four yard fullback dive time and time again. As good as Francis and Styles were if you watch back on the film late in the game those guys were getting worn out. They're studs too, two of the best I've ever seen. Patience is a virtue! A deep passing game is hard to develop with a wishbone because it takes so much time for the offensive players to perfect the technique and veer reads it doesn't leave much time to teach pass blocking. Belfry found some success against JCHS and Lville Central with the short passes (a few long ones against JCHS) but the deep pass didn't work against Ashland nor Louisville Central cause the quicker defensive players beat that pass blocking. Which isn't hard to do when they don't get much of a chance to practice it. I think that's something that Belfry will look to improve on for sure. I like a West Coast nickel and dime approach with the Wishbone though, chunks at a time, don't worry about hitting the big one. The ball being in the air scares me anyways, more time for a speedier player to run under it and have A TON of open field.
  7. Francis is the real deal as is his "partner-in-crime" Styles, they're both fast and will hit you, that's what makes the difference from Central as to other quick teams is that they have speed but I would consider them a physical team first. Certainly a deadly combo that's really receded Pirate hairlines for 3 seasons now.
  8. I would assume that side of 1A will be down, One notable loss for Hazard has to be Olinger who felt like he went there for 12 years. Depending on what Williamsburg brings back, I'm gonna say they probably make the trip to BG to the Mayfield invitational. Pikeville and Hazard may be in the mix though, Pikeville has a good young nucleus but may be a year away.
  9. As a Belfry fan, I love ball control offenses. In today's game, speed is the name of the game and teams are looking to score fast and play fast. In my honest opinion, the wishbone/flexbone offenses are great to fight that with because it slows the pace down and keeps the ball out of the scoring teams hands. The easiest way to play defense is with your offense on the field. Now, of course, we've learned a lot from the 4 losses to Louisville Central over the past 6 seasons but I think the difference in losing in 07/10 and barely losing in 11/12 is not turning the ball over. It ruins the time of possession slow paced concept if you hand them the ball. You want to grind them out, long, demoralizing hopefully scoring drives. Teams today are looking for the big play and with the wishbone you are going to go against that and be patient. When teams put 9 in the box, unless they put them play side it's usually a non-factor. Although the back side unblocked players may be fast enough to get there and make the play, the quick hitting style of wishbone and option plays still allows 2, 3, or 4 yards. I think Ashland stands a better chance running a wishbone. When you spread it out, you may be able to out-athlete and out run some teams but Highlands, it isn't going to work. So you try to do a contrasting style. Johnson Central got awfully close to Highlands by doing this, but couldn't seal the deal. Just the same as Belfry with Central in 11/12. The catch here is when playing a spread/speed/finesse team you have to be patient and physical with them to try and neutralize their speed, but in district play when they play JCHS who runs the same style they will simply have to be more physical. That is a very tall task. I think if Ashland can get the line technique right, they will stand a far better chance in an option bone offense than a spread look. Mainly because I don't like spread offenses unless you are athlete LOADED.
  10. Pretty sure Belfry started either 0-3 or 0-4 in 89, then put it together and beat Pikeville before going all the way to barely losing to Highlands. They say Coach Haywood says of all his "so close" teams, that the 89 team was the one he thought would get it the most. That's all stuff I've heard, since I wasn't even thought about in '89 and my momma was a freshman in college, I wasn't around for it.
