  1. Congrats to Coach Dreher! He had an outstanding boys team there in 1991 that was knocked out in the State Tourney by runner-up, Tates Creek.
  2. Any news on this one? Williams was mentioned on here, but appears to have accepted Bath County job.
  3. Zack Klemme on Twitter: "Bart Williams has accepted the boys basketball head coaching position at Bath County, he says. Ex-Pikeville coach and Johnson Central alum."
  4. Rowan may be down a bit from recent past, but Coach Thacker will get the Vikings ready for post-season. Big win for Coach Snapp and his troops!
  5. Congrats to the Rebels and Coach Duvall on the big win!
  6. The JV won 17 games last year with Coach Conn. Newton brought Conn in to assist and help build the program and the Central Office bumped him from his teaching position for tenured teacher to have spot. Heard that was part of the reason that Newton decided to take another opportunity. Probably didn't feel they would give him tools to build a program. I have heard some say they have tougher schedule when in fact Coach Newton dropped Mason County and Paris from the regular season schedule and added Garrard County and a 2nd game with St. Patrick. Same schedule except those changes. New coach will take some time to figure them out, but shouldn't be under 10 wins from last season.
  7. Coach Newton accepted a position as Sport Management professor at Lancaster Bible College and will also be coaching Men's and Women's Tennis. He struggled with leaving Nicholas, but has said he couldn't pass up the opportunity. Wish him and his son, Tyler, the best in Pennsylvania! Tyler signed to play basketball and was also offered the opportunity to play baseball there too. He is batting .436 with a 5-3 pitching record this season.
  8. Really surprised by this one. Thought Wayne would win by about 8-10. Why they play them....
  9. Jackets led by 9 at half. Started third quarter on a 9-0 run to go up by 18 and moved lead to 20 before a questionable technical was called on an assistant coach on the Nicholas bench for laughing or smirking. Menifee goes on a big run, cutting the lead to 3 at the end of the third quarter. Bluejackets get the ship righted and go on another run in 4th to pull away at the FT line. Jackets: Newton for 30 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals. Duncan with 15 points, 10 points, 4 assists. Webb with 13 points and 3 rebounds. Barnett adds 9 points, Trussell with 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Team had 19 assists in the game. Jackets have won 4 of last 5 games and are 9-6 since 0-5 start. Wildcats: Stidom with 19 points, Mann with 17 points, Workman and Chaney with 10 each.
  10. Nicholas County: Devin Trussell - 18 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds Tyler Newton - 16 points (4-7 on 3-pointers), 6 assists, and 4 rebounds Elijah Barnett - 14 points, 3 steals Robertson County: Dawson Cooper - 18 points, 7 rebounds Mason Burden 13 points, 5 rebounds Jackets have won last three games and are 8-5 since 0-5 start. Scores by quarter: RC 9 12 16 13 - 50 NC 22 13 15 23 - 73
  11. Spencer Morris (G) from Nicholas County is going to be a really good player in this region for 3 more years. Had 14 last night to spark comeback win at Bracken County.
  12. Jackets started to get going at the Greenup tournament after Christmas. Big double OT win to finish 2-1. Had key injuries to Tyler Newton in the Pendleton game before the break then Devin Trussell with ankle and Ben Duncan with knee in the past 2 weeks. Key injuries have slowed this group. Played banged up tonight, but gutted it out. If they can stay healthy, they have shown some grit and fight that a senior group should. Huge coming out party for Nicholas' freshman, Spencer Morris, tonight. Got hot and carried them in the 3rd and 4th quarter run. Ended tied for second-leading scorer with 14 points. Trussell leads with 15 points, Newton and Morris go for 14, and Elijah Barnett with 13 points. Ben Duncan was huge with 9 points, but his toughness and rebounding saved them more than once. Team win! Jackets are 7-5 after 0-5 start.
