  1. I personally feel if your team is playing in the sweet 16, it's okay to cancel classes for the day. I promise you missing class for 1 day does not spell doom for students. Besides, having class the day your school plays in the sweet 16 would not be productive. I think most students would be so hyped up, very little instruction would be obtained that day. School spirit is a big part of the experience of making the sweet 16. Let the kids enjoy it without penalty. Just an opinion from someone that dosen't even live in Kentucky.
  2. Jellico has a nice team. Issue with them is their will to get better in practice or so I've heard. Supposedly some of their older more experienced players give little effort in practice. Shame because they could be so much better. Maybe their coach can find the right button to push and they will respond. With kids today who knows. Williamsburg and Jellico is always a heated rivarly game. Great game for both schools. Taylor for williamsburg is the key, if he keeps his head on straight and works wburg can imporve. They have enough players to play certain roles to win some games, that's if the players accept their roles the coaches give them. We will see.
  3. They played Jellico tonight on the road and lost by 5. Game was not as close as the score indicated as Williamsburg made a late run off of Jellico missed free throws and a couple of bad decisions late in the game by Jellico players. Clearly Jellico was the better team. Williamsburg really struggles with the press. They have some serious ball handling issues with their guard play. Unless they resolve this issue no way they compete with anyone in the 50th.
  4. I agree. The Wilson kid is tough as nails both physically and mentally. He is a coach's dream. Hard worker and a great example to his teammates. Corbin will get better as the season progresses. They may be back at Rupp afterall.
  5. If Zollo has to play the 4 in college, he will have to put the ball on the floor in coach cal's offense. Now, if they are looking at him as a true 5 post player than he would fit into the system. Not sure if he can play the 5 in major D-1. I think Zollo will make a nice player at the 5 at a mid-major school.
  6. I believe you can pretty much book it, that Coach Cal will not recruit Zollo. I not sure Zollo will fit into Coach Cal's dribble drive offense. Zollo has two years to improve as a player and I feel confident he will by playing D-1 somewhere when he graduates.
  7. If Whitaker transfers, that would be three schools in four years. (Bell, Hazard, New School) Seems like a great kid, just wondering what he may be searching for in leaving Hazard. Maybe he thinks he can better himself for the college ranks by leaving. I hope it is not a fallout with Coach Holland, he is one of the better coaches in the mountains. If he stays at Hazard I believe they will make a return trip to Rupp. If he leaves, best of luck to him!
  8. Josh Crawford of Corbin should have been on the all-tournament team. Eastern had no answer for him.
  9. Just wondering everyone's thoughts on the best high school basketball team in the state over the past 40 years. I would have to go with the Louisville Ballard team (1977, I hope I got the year correct) with Jeff Lamp, Lee Raker, & Jerry Eaves. I believe all three went on to D-1 Schools after their high school careers. Eaves-Louisville, Lamp & Raker - Virginia(I Think, correct me if I wrong). Looking forward to reading everyone's responses!
  10. The 2003 Mason County Team was fun to watch. I will never forget Chris Lofton's performance in the championship game. The 3's that he rained down on Louisville Ballard was unforgettable. One of the greatest performances on a big stage in the history of the Sweet 16. Also, Barbour's performance for E-Town was unforgettable!
  11. Great game to witness in person. Holmes just too much for EC to overcome. Ethan Faulkner was a warrior, he was the only EC player that could score off the bounce. Holmes just to athletic for Fergurson and the other Faulkner kid to get good looks from the 3 land. T Knipp played great under the circumstances, Holmes could throw too many bodies at him. EC played with great heart, passion, poise, & determination. They truly did feel like that could beat Holmes and played with great confidence. Just with Coach Mays would have used more time-outs to rest his kids. Those complaining about not using his bench all season that is his call. With the run that EC has had the past four years the EC faithful bas been blessed by this team. What they have accomplished will be remembered in Sandy Hook for many years to come. Best of luck to Coach Mays and the Senior of EC!
  12. If Elliott keeps it close until the last three minutes, I think Holmes may ask themselves whats going on? Theres nothing more frustrating then not being able to put someone away that you should beat. Yes, holmes should be Elliott. If it comes down to free throws at the end I believe that Elliott will win. Rupp Arena will embrace Elliott County in the morning.
  13. Holmes better bring plenty of fans in the morning. Everyone in Rupp will be pulling for Elliott. Dont know if Elliott has enough to knock off Holmes but it should be fun in the morning. W Jessamine vs Central- 2 teams that no one expected. Elliott vs Holmes- classic big school vs small school. Im traveling up to Rupp from Tennessee cant wait to get there!
  14. The atmosphere at the Sweet 16 is what makes the tournament special. I live in Tennessee but attend the Sweet 16 every year. Also, I've attended the state tournament in Tennessee and there is no comparsion. Attendance, emotion, school support way better at the Sweet 16. The state championship games in tennessee may draw 5000 at best. Sweet 16 will draw 15000 for an opening round game. But I will say that the talent level from the Memphis schools are better than Region 7 & 11 the so called power regions in Kentucky. I will be in Rupp Saturday to watch the greatest show in HOOPS! God Bless!
